Big fat No to Hooker. Hurley too.

Lets have a word in a few peoples ears who are earmarked to be a FA (in 2018). Get the wheels in motion.

23 and under for now.
Exactly.
Build from the draft over the next couple of years and then go for the free agents once we start our rise up the ladder.
Plus, we're not exactly in a position to get the type of free agents we need at the club just yet.

Generally, I would say we are not in a position to be chasing FAs for a couple of years. We have so many holes, building from the bottom rather than topping up seems the way to go.

However, there are two reasons it might make sense to me

1) We should have spare cap. It's a way to improve the side without losing draft picks in trades. Front loading and paying under the cap aside, we gotta spend it somewhere.

2) Experience may be needed. Fast forward 1-2 years and Jamo/Rowe may be cooked. Our next gen KPBs look good, but asking Weities and Plow (and possibly JGM) to handle the big jobs on their own is a big ask. It's not about paying a guy to improve the team from 16th to 14th, it's about helping players' development by not throwing them to the wolves. Same goes up forward. Guys like Harry Mac and Curlie Charnow (;)) might need more than Levi and a moonlighting Kreuz to take the heat off them until they are ready to take centre stage...

Put the feelers out for F/A now. Get a few names up on whiteboards for 2018/19 and onwards kind of thing. Maybe get in a few ears with an expression of intrest.

But we're 2 games into a 66 game/ 3 year rebuild. At the end of that rebuild (and taking into account the last three drafts) I hope to have replaced 75 percent of the list with talented under 24 year olds, with no more than 3-4 vets (Kruezer, Murphy, maybe one or two others) hanging on from the list as it stands now.

We start the 2019 season with a list of primarily 25 and under talented players, and look to supplement with FA from there.

In the meantime we do everything we can to buy into the top end of the draft, getting as many early selections as we can over the next three years. Packaging players plus mid picks for early ones, splitting early picks up for extra bites at the cherry, and trading established players out.

Im not keen on F/A. Id rather use that money on contract extensions for Weitering and others, or to fend off any attempts to lure our younger blokes away.

Cant have everyone between the age of 20-25. Just means we go through the late 90s/early 2000's again! Without draft sanctions we might do a bit better, it is true...

Let's keep in mine that we'll be shedding experienced and obsolete players probably about 8 to 10 , at season's end.
So apart from drafting young exciting talent, we'll desperately need experienced and hardened bodies too , help to spread and carry the load and rigors of playing a long season enabling the team to evolve as a cohesive unit.
So I'd say yes to intelligently selected older FA, we'll need a few

Disagree.

Each year we will be flinging some of the older guys as well as the non-performers.

However, as each year goes by, the younger players get physically stronger and more experience and should be able to handle the rigours of the game better.

Added to that, according to something I read somewhere on BF, we have the second oldest list in terms of average age.

I think its just because Cotchin is crap.

And I dont think Murphy is getting phased out at all. Had a great game round 1 and was a bit up against it against Sydney.

Ablett is still a midget, the Sydney midfielders that carved us up in Mitchell, Parker, Jack and Hannebery arent giants
Murphy played a brilliant round one because he was able to play his damaging outside role again due to Cripps and Gibbs doing the heavy lifting against a one man Richmond midfield (Martin). When Cripps and Gibbs are up against it vs Sydney he doesn't do much.

Fair call on the Sydney players. They are still big bodies though, no real pure outside runners at centre bouncers or stoppages, just well rounded footballers who run all day. Kennedy is a monster.

What would it take (reasonably) to lure Lachie Heale over from Freo (both in salary and trade cost ?)

Big wrap for Neale, if the reported rumours (Tom Browne channel 7) of him entertaining a move back to Vic, I'd be hoping we're in the hunt.

Would take Neale for sure.
Not a huge name, and wouldn't cost a bundle either.

Now ya talkin DVB.

Neale is small but big time in the contest. I watch him week in week out an as well as being a good player he's a competitive little campaigner.

He does not let his team down.

Not very but just proving a point. I wanted us to pick up Gresham in the draft so I'm not adverse to picking up small blokes but we have our fair share.
I wanted us to pick up one of Kerbatieh or Gresham last year. But we went for Cuningham... who will, along with Boekhorst and Skittles should provide us with a load of dash through the centre of the ground.

Skittles is 186cm
Boekkie is 185cm
Cuningham is 183cm

They are all 6' - 6'1" tall... but they are all quick.

According to some... at 176cm tall, is too small for us.

Then we go and fling another forward away leaving Charlie and McKay grossly exposed too early.

Geez we like our tightropes on the thin side out at Ikon Park.
