What would it take (reasonably) to lure Lachie Heale over from Freo (both in salary and trade cost ?)

Big wrap for Neale, if the reported rumours (Tom Browne channel 7) of him entertaining a move back to Vic, I'd be hoping we're in the hunt.
Hes a SA boy mate. Good little player though. Terrier type. Right age bracket.

I'd hand them pick 20(ish) for him. He'd have to be wanting to leave and OOC for that price though. Freo would rightly want more; its way unders, but barring something from left feild, pick 1/2 is too much and we wont have anything else. Maybe a swap of later round picks as well and holding the PSD over them.

Hooker would be a no brainer.

Learn the lessons of Melbourne. Never go full rebuild.
What about hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood? Bulldogs looking alright too.

They all went full rebuild last decade and used the success they gathered to keep what they have now

Besides Collingwood but Buckley screwed them. They had the youngest premiership list since 79 and he felt the need to mess it uo

No they didn't. They had a rebuild but they certainly weren't stupid enough to surround their kids with nothing and force them to perform roles they weren't ready to perform at AFL level. There was plenty of experience in each of those teams helping to develop their young players.

I reckon Melbourne footy club have a bit of a culture problem going on that's affecting their rebuild. Watching them on the box some of them are starting to have a bit of a figjam type attitude when they haven't earned it in the least. Roos comes across as the dad who's up to his 6th kid and gone soft, allowing them to run the show a bit. contrast this to the exciting WB who have had less opportunities at high draft talent but clearly a better cultural structure telling guys like Darcy, Johnson and those elitists to flap off from the club and have a hard edged and determined guy in Beveridge to foster the correct mentality.

Melbourne will be the "wtf happened" case and WB the blueprint. Tipping Bolton will be more the latter. You can tell.

Would lachiecharm make a return if we got Neale?
He would cost between pick 5-12 imo. No way they let him go on the cheap.
Happy to get him but would hope there was a swap of players and then us coughing up a pick in the 2nd round

I really hope we don't waste any draft picks on trade week. I say we keep whatever we get and use them. We really need to grab the best midfielders available with our picks this year. Simpson is getting old, probably his last year. Murphy, Gibbs and Thomas in their late 20's. Carrots already gone.

If anything, I wouldn't mind seeing us try and go for more early picks again this year like we did last.

If both players had an identical output and the only difference was height, why would it matter which one you took? They both have same influence on the game!
I would take the bigger guy (assuming he has a mature body to go with the height)
Much easier for a small to get kicks/disposals in an Under 18s comp then it is when they hit the big leagues.
They have to be an elite small to keep that up in the AFL, whereas I sense big midfielders who have thrived in u18s tend to already have the game required to continue that output.

A knock on that view would be their endurance, if both had to build endurance upon entering the AFL then it all comes down to attitude. Lets assume they have the right attitude, then it comes down to development - been a bit of lottery for us there and I hope like hell the reports are true we are making inroads in this area. If not then it probably doesn't matter who we draft

Hooker would be a very average pick up for the coin he'd cost at his age with a year out of the game.

We have jamo and Rowe still out there so kids aren't being forced too early. I think you've skewed my use of the term full rebuild. I don't think any of those teams would waste money on a mediocre pick up like hooker

I said this 2 years ago. The 2 teams that were accused of tanking a decade ago have both suffered huge cultural problems as a result.

I see your point, but with carlton, we stayed with the boys club too long. The reason why we are how we are I don't believe is because of supposed tanking. It's just bad choice after bad choice. Bolton and SOS (I believe) are two of the most important changes made to date for our club. We now need time.

In that case, we should have thrown the kitchen sink at Stepladder. Not sure we would have given * the equivalent of pick 5 like the Saints did.
Pick 5 seemed a lot to me.

But the Saints looked terrific yesterday and having a guy who can play both ends will be great for them.

I believe hooker has had 2 very good seasons the last 2 it's not that long ago Lance Franklin use to lick his lips every time hawthorn played
the dopers and made hooker look like a donkey . I agree pointless picking up guys whose best will be behind them when we are challenging again think Jamison in 4 years . Don't think he's the dustin fletcher type that can go on forever . Just my opinion .
Hooker doesn't have multiple issues with both of his shoulders, and will be fresh after a year out of the game. He's probably the best free agent option over the next 36 months.

I'm very glad you're not SOS.

That's fair, but we have a structural weakness against talls over 197 cm, and he can handle them.

It's why we went after Carlisle, and it's something we need to address ASAP if we're going to start with an 18 year old.

I'm sure there would be another Marcus Adams out there my god how good would it be if we could have picked him up . Hopefully sos can pull a beauty like him out of his bag of tricks for much much less in the meantime . It can be done .

Marcus Adams is very much the exception, and it was just his second season of a full-time commitment to senior football, similar to Boekhorst (though obviously a more committed athlete prior).

He's also 193 cms, and will get chopped up by the Tom Lynch types.
