Totally agree. I think people (myself included) sometimes forget to look three years ahead and count the mnumber of experienced players of quality that have to be replaced. This year's drafts looked good on paper - but facts are - we have Weitering performing abovbe expectations, Curnow and Mc on pretty much LTI - therefore no development or playing time and question marks over Cuningham pace of development. Meanwhile Vojo/Jacksh/Whiley aren't setting the world on fire ( yet?)...So at least half the year is a write off for key draftees - significant set back in list development.
Fortunately, Sumner/Plowman/Lamb/Kerridge/Wright doing enough to be picked - Plowman ( as expected) probably the standout. We are still short of genuine AFL quality on ballers - you don't pick these up ready to go in a draft.
I think the Club will likely make some difficult ( for supporters) trade decisions over the next couple of years in order to get the age and experience mix more balanced.
OR miracles happen, and;
Graham become genuine starter playing inside mid, Boekhurst gets fit and lifts to A grade running mid status, Casboult learns to kick and hasn't lost his jump off both legs, Jacksh slots into team and development accelerates and becomes a genuine top 10 type KPP pick, Harry Mc becomes a rare gun after one full pre-season and Charlie Curnow becomes the beast we need to play alongside Cripps - whilst Cuningham and Vojo click, Sheehan bursts on to scene over next year and that big fella we picked up playing VFL develops into teh KPP defender we need to take on gorillas.
ie it will all take time and a lot of luck and even then....
I don't really know what your point is.
I think you're getting overly edgy though.
These things take time.
Kids need time.
Qn marks on Cuningham? Crikey, he is a first year player.
LTI to McKay and Curnow delaying their development? Technically that might be true, but I think you'll find the club wouldn't have expected too much of Harry in particular, and Curnow already got some games in and looked good. I expect Curnow to play a fair bit of seniors next year, meaning he would be well ahead of the curve. I didn't expect squat from Harry this year. He is around 200cm, could take him 5 years to be a decent senior player. Year One for these types means little. A lot of the time it is about getting used to being at a professional senior club, adjusting to the demands, the diet, the game plan/education etc.
Jaksch clearly has some KPIs to hit, but he bagged 4 last week, bagged another 4 or 5 against Geel VFL side, and I have a feeling he will get games soon and I still think he is a good chance to be a senior player for us. Some talls take longer than others. Look at Tarrant at North.
Boekhorst I think can play.
Sheehan can play. He is what, 26? Fact is he is a gorgeous kick so he will be given time to come good. He is not 28/29.
I think we are tracking well given where we came from, though I agree we need to draft/trade well again and again and again.
These things take time.
You cannot expect things to happen too quick.
Every list has injuries.
Every list has kids who maybe take longer than others.
They don't all come on at the same time.
Some take longer.
The challenge is whether SOS can get more top 20 picks without giving up players we don't want to part with.
