Thinking we might end up with #4.

Really don't want to give up a first rounder but I am of the opinion that we can pick up a decent mid anywhere in the first round.

If GWS have #14, I would look at #4 and 2017 second rounder for #14, Marchbank and Tomlinson.

The problem is that if a bid comes for McCreadie before #4, they have to use it on him and waste their discount but then they still get to keep the Collingwood and Geelong first rounders.

Let's say next year's second rounder is #26. That places the value of Marchbank and Tomlinson at #8 according to the draft calculator.

No doubt that we're not going to want to give up our first, this year at least......and maybe not even next year.

Can though see where a swap of firsts may come into play, but again that's dependent on what we think may be there at that late first rounder i.e. If we hunt back the Henderson pick we traded to GWS which looks as though it may be a 14-18.

So much to play out yet but for now at least, Tomlinson & Marchbank are firm in our sights.

GWS have their own first rounder, the Pies first rounder and the Cats first rounder. I'd go for the second best of the two.

Even forget the second rounder next year and give them our third this year at around #40. That makes the combined value of the two players #12. No way that is a bad deal for us.

Agree with this.

Adding to our mids should be a priority but realistically outside of SPS, Brodie, McCluggage and maybe Powell-Pepper (and the academy kids) which mids are worth a top 10 pick? If we finish with pick 5 or 6 we won't have access to any of these kids.

Maybe Scharenberg & Simpkin (if he returns well from the broken leg), but other than that I'd say we can get ourselves the next best available mids in the picks 15-25 range.

Therefore parting with our 1st rounder for Marchbank, Tomlinson and possibly a 2nd coming back our way may work well for us. That will give us 2 second rounders and 2 third rounders to work with. And if we can somehow work a player trade to get us another 2nd/3rd rounder that gives us some decent picks to work with (either to trade up for higher picks) or to take into the draft.

..............and they're not going to get Freo's 1st rounder for McCarthy now, either. :)

It's not a bad deal at all on face value. All aboard?

I guess we have to wait for the championships to play out and see how many players leap above the rest.

I like him personally but i am not interested in trading Gibbs or Murphy, i feel we need to get some extra picks in and would be happy if they came for Everitt, White, Buckley (sadly) and possibly Thomas. Yes he provides leadership but so do a lot of people. He isn't the first i would trade but i realise that we cant have extra picks without trading.
I just don't see it happening. Who'd take him and what would they be willing to put up? I think that he simply has much more value at Carlton than on the 'open market' (urgh, I really dislike the commodification of players). Happy for you to quote this post back at me if it happens but my educated guess says Dale will be a Blue til he retires. And will be remembered as a very solid player for us in a time when we needed it.

Here's one for the grains trust. Should the club contact the afl about having to play so many consecutive games in the notoriously firm etihad? Any correlation between injuries and this particular ground?

Talk is we might make another play for Lennon from the Tigers. Not sure his importance due to others finding their feet within the side but I saw this guy play as a junior and was exciting to say the least. Surprised he hasnt been given a run after being promised more game time.

Another my good insider friends have mentioned is Neal-Bullen from the Dee's who although i have not seen personally is supposedly an incredible in and under midfielder who finds his own ball and delivers it well in traffic.

Not sure either have a place in our mid/fwd but will be interesting if these rumours gain weight in the coming few months.

Neal-Bullen looks handy, but not sure he'd be looking to move. Melbourne are coming along, he spent the start of the year in the reserves but has earned a senior spot the last two weeks - suspect they'll give him a few games then make a play to re-sign him during the bye rounds.

Lennon. Lennon, Lennon, Lennon. Had an opportunity to come to us last year, but knocked it back to stay with the Tiges, presumably because they promised he'd get his opportunities. Doesn't seem to be working hard enough in the VFL to earn his senior spot, and the vibe I get is that he simply expected he'd get handed a spot on a silver platter. Reckon we'd get more output from SOSOS than we would from Lennon.

10 pages on imaginary trading. What happened to the rumors?
The rumour was posted in the list management thread. Apparently the board have given the okay to trade picks this year and we are looking at our first and second rounders for Marchbank, Tomlinson, Steele and Stewart from GWS.

Here's one for the grains trust ... Dean Rice wore #23 and Jacob Wheatering wears #23.

I said Lennon was a terrible player last year when everyone wanted him. He's only confirmed my opinion since. I hope the club stays away.

Plenty of players look the goods in the juniors and never make the grade. No tank, no pace, no skill and no footy smarts makes for a rubbish footballer.

If only there was someone else left at #12 in the draft that the Tigers could have taken instead. Thinking ... thinking ....
