Man, that guy was so wrong.

Our development department obviously sucks the big one. But repeatedly and relentlessly drafting footballers that are neither midfielders nor key position players, well...
If our player development is so bad (and I'm not saying it isn't) why haven't any of our flops gone on to play well or be re-drafted by other clubs? Recruiting the wrong personalities is why our drafting has been so pathetic IMO.

We wouldnt be signing Bolton until October. He would stay with Hawthorn until the end of the finals series.
Hawks have already said that they would release him if he gets the job.

Because we developed all their skill out of them. We have a history of poor development and piss poor injury management over the past 10 years. Some of our dud's if picked up by other clubs with better development environments would have quite probably turned them into stars. But we pick up players, run them into the ground with injuries and then delist them.

Ok... must have missed that one. Mighty nice of them if they do that.

Anyone heard about this yet?

Anyone?

Anyone?

Never heard of those two before.
In all seriousness though, why would we lean towards Schache when he's made it clear he's keen on Lions and has family history with the Bears? He will probably want to leave in a couple years. Go for Weitering.

You realise this is Carlton we are talking about here. We probably won't pick either.

It'll be Weitering.

But imagine if we do get a Band 1 compo... could be saying to the Lions, "Aish for unders and we'll leave Schache for your pick at 3"
And then just for shits and giggles we will still take Schache with our second pick.

Some players better start getting a kick then if we want any of them to attract band 1 compo.....:(

Need a few clubs pushing the offer up for Lachie....:D

Just on recruiting and development, Kane Lucas clearly was a bust, but obviously I feel was clearly a drafting lemon, more than a player development one. It doesn't look like Lucas will get a game at a strong WCE outfit.

Our player development in the past few years of Cripps, Graham, Buckley, Holman has been much better, which is a start, this is a controversial thought, but I firmly agree with Mick's philosophy of making kids earn their stripes in the VFL (even if he probably took it too far with Graham)

Holman especially strikes me as a self-made footballer, who is/will succeed at AFL level by serving an lengthy apprenticeship and basically reducing any compliancy in his game to a minimum (a trait that's sadly cropped into Menzel's game)

We didn't our due homework into Kane Lucas and his attitude/work rate etc, something I trust we have rectified with SOS and McKay on board ...

Would rather we take Schache instead of Aish and #3.

"We rated Kane Lucas higher than any of the tall players left in the draft at pick 10 as John Butcher had already gone to Port Adelaide. You will find the draft full of tall players taken first round who didn't work.

"In reality the best talls go very early in the draft like Nick Riewoldt, Buddy Franklin, Jarryd Roughead and Justin Koschitzke."

Reality is Talia has turned into the player we're still looking for, most probably going to win the spoon to do so....!

Butcher......eerrrgggh yuck.

Stoked Hughes is gone, not so much Rogers as he did very well in later picks especially (Graham, Holman are 2 who look to AFL quality) but SOS did a stand up job up north and will be backing SOS to make the correct choices for our clubs list going forward........as much as I'd hate it, even if that means trading Kruez

Leaving aside talent/potential, have you considered that he's a high go-home-to-Brissy risk because of his dad? Add to that, we're not exactly expected to win a premiership in the next two years or so.
What?! He lives in Seymour...His father played in Brisbane but that was it.

His family lives in country Vic...

Tie to Brisbane is for nostalgia, not convenience. Hell, he could go to Brisbane, hate it, decide he wants to come back to Victoria in two years :p
