This applies if you think the negotiations over value are happening now. Some believe they were held 3 months ago with a whole bunch of contingencies around injuries/finishing place etc.

I'd also allow Geelong to keep this years 1st and substitute next years if it made it easier for them to wear it.

We do not hand an A grade player over to * in a straight exchange for someone who is staring down the barrel of a 2 year ban from the sport.

If we did that, I would want the Essendon* first round pick.

I agree. I doubt that the CAS will impose a two-year ban on the Essendon players even though I feel like they will hand down some guilty decisions. In a worst case scenario, we sign Carlisle for 4 years and he is rubbed out for 2. Coming out of that, he is still only 26 years old and we have only just finished the main rebuilding phase.

Not only will he still be in his prime but we will have also gotten some games into Weitering / Giles / Anyone else we pick up due to his absence.

When you consider that we might even get him for nothing but his salary (i.e. pre-season draft), it's a worthwhile risk to take IMHO. Understand the question marks over his character and performances, but I would be willing to give him a shot. If it turns out he is a spud for us, all it cost was some salary cap and we can offload him in a trade since he will still be at a decent playing age. Buy low (i.e. for nothing) and sell high (2nd round draft pick in a few years time) lol.

If Henderson delists himself he becomes an uncontracted player. Not compo for us. He just goes into the draft and takes his chances as to where he ends up.

We can refuse to trade with them and Hendo ends up in the draft.

You are one of my favourites Shandog but I can't agree with this.

The lack of continuity of being out of footy for 2 years and the team we need to blend over the next few years means this would be a disaster. In my opinion no point picking someone and accepting he may not be playing for 2 of those years.

Would Carlisle be banned from playing all variants of Aussie Rules football or just the professional/semi-professional versions?

Because if he can play amateur grade football where he doesnt get paid to play, I would drop him into a VAFA side for the next 2 years so he can at least keep up his skill levels.

Depends on the player. If they are offering VFL level hacks, then no. I would take their second from this year and their first from next year.

Yep totally understand that argument too because it's definitely risky. If we were on the fringe of the 8 or something, I would be against it for sure, but in our current position I think it could pay off and will only cost salary and a spot on the list.

Definitely don't want us trading anything for him.

Amatuer footy comes under the same anti-doping code so I'm pretty sure he can't play at all.

Yarran has A Grade talent, but on this year's form, he isn't an A Grade player, far from it.

It won't cost us any salary space for the 2 years he would be banned for. He would be suing * for lost earnings for the period he was banned :)
