I'm on record saying I'm very keen on Carlisle, but if St Kilda are foolish enough to offer up pick 5 for him, then withdraw from all trade negotiations with Dodo and The Dons, PSD or bust for JC.
It boggles my mind though that a club as hellbent on the rebuilding course as the Saints and Al Richardson would be prepared to give up #5 for a player in the pick 15-20 range (max)
I think at this stage we paid overs for Jaksch (although I believe he will come good) partly because of The Saints interest in him last year, don't want our club to do a similar trade again (forced into paying overs because of another club)
I'm not having a go at you DVB but it blows me away that people are still saying this. Let's put a couple of facts out there.
1. We didn't just get Jaksch for pick 7. We got Jaksch, Whiley, AND Boekhorst for Ahern (who hasn't played a game yet).
2. It's been one year. That is way too early to make a premature call on who won the trade.
3. Jaksch didn't set the world on fire. Neither did Whiley or Boekhorst. However, all of them showed glimpses that they could be fantastic long term players for us. I think Jaksch will ultimately become a more than handy third tall forward for us. Whiley will never be a star but he will do a lot of the grunt work as an inside midfielder. Boekhorst has shown enough to suggest that he could be quite a damaging player coming off a wing/half-forward.
4. Ahern hasn't played a senior game yet. So if you are comparing current output from that trade, then we come out on top.
As for Carlisle, it will not matter if the Saints offer pick 5 if he nominates us. If he is happy to play for either team and they offer up pick 5 then they can have him. It will not be a failure if we don't land him. We will save valuable salary cap space and hit the draft early.
