I wasn’t there ...

but understand it was driven by Teague. Main focus player effort/commitment
Teague talks about ruthlessness

He can start by dropping Murphy this week. I'd drop Plowman too.

Cottrell and Kennedy/Stocker straight in

Hard to command ruthless attitudes when you clearly accept complacency at match committee.

Anybody know what the big excuse was for not organising a practice game for our reserves this week? Most other clubs seemed to manage just fine. Even Essendon, who we naively like to think we are better than

thanks for that mate. Glad to see Teague has noticed a lack of effort amongst the players, lets see what he does at team selection this week. I just hope he has the guts to take a good look at himself and how he is performing.
If every supporter and other viewers out there noticed it, I would darn hope Teague and his band of chillax men would notice it too. He's had a good 30 game sample size to let it dawn on him, Barker about 250.

Gives the coaches an opportunity to tell our kids that didn't play, sorry but due to lack of experience and not a chance to get touch/form on the weekend we can't play you. Only players with 100+ games experience will be considered....

Spot on CM. If one of the young kids came in and played like Murphy has been playing he would not hesitate to drop them. Stinks of double standards to me. He gave Honey and Owies one game last year and swiftly dropped them. Was their performance any worse to what Murphy dished up on Thursday night? Murphys job now is to kick goals, apply great pressure, and apply tackle pressure. He is not doing any of those 3 IMO.

Every time I see this threaded lit up I think we have a new rumour to discuss..........

yeah sorry about that, playing unaccountable footy is not a rumour ...

No, it's not and there's lots of threads where that can be discussed IMO. I know this serves as a catch all thread during the off-season but I don't recall it being like this during the season but whatever.

This is highly optimistic and without foundation.

Ken Hinkley took a team that won a total of 8 games in 2 seasons into the second week of the finals in 2013 winning 13 games along the way; next season they qualified for a PF.

Hardwick had taken Richmond to three consecutive finals campaigns with an ordinary team between 2013-2015.

Bottom line is let the wins and losses do the talking... Let Teague demonstrate he can take Carlton into the finals, then reward him.

Carlton reeks of mediocrity, you can swap McDonald for Casboult, Stocker for Murphy - it’s shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.

Until the CFC board is held responsible for their multitude of failures, nothing changes.

How many CEOs, coaches and football bosses will it take to realise this board couldn’t get lucky in a knock shop with a fistful of $50s...

Player development, messiah complexes... Andrew Russell - perfect example; supposedly the god amongst gods - injuries galore and a team that was gassed by 3/4 time in the past two weeks - when is he held accountable?

David Teague was never given the support he required admittedly; junior coaches need senior heads around; John Barker and Brad Lloyd exudes 0 in the confidence stakes.

Teague hurts himself though because he’s not a demanding coach of his players. He hasn’t shown the necessary drive to succeed - he should go.

I don’t know why it’s taboo in the AFL not to hire external coaches midseason, but if ever the club needed someone fanatical and with a game plan it’s right now.

However, I just wonder where MLG is? He’s harder to locate than Casper the Ghost. Leaders set the tone; it’s great to have repaid the historical debt, but when the club is on the cusp of a crisis if they lose to Fremantle, he needs to be visible and justify the path of the club.

There’s been years of patience, and nothing in the results column...

Carlton is becoming irrelevant just like Essendon - so match selection is just a small part of the bigger picture - continuously poor decisions made my unaccountable people...

So after having a weekend to sit on our performance I’ve had a few thoughts about expectations on this group. It’s okay to have high expectations and I think they all do of themselves. It actually reminds me of the port Adelaide group in 2018/2019. They just picked up Rockliff, Motlop and Wingard. Guess where they finished. And look at them now. They finished 10th. I guess they’re port and we’re Carlton our external pressure is much greater. But in 1-2 years time we will be up there I can feel it. We just need to sit tight and believe. No tearing down Teague and the assistants. No blaming plowman who has been a rock for some time on the smalls. I don’t want to lose to Fremantle and GC but if it happens it’s going to be a tough year again for us. The club needs to hold steady. We need to resign Teague like Richmond did with Hardwick. And port did with Hinkley.

This to me is the most egregious of them. Who on earth decided a big, slow inside midfielder with a limited tank would be perfect on the wing? I'd understand if maybe he was a great mark and an elite kick, at least he's a down the line target then, but he's neither of those on top of his physical limitations.

A better question for mine is, if he is all those things who on earth would trade for him in the first place with Cripps and Kennedy on the list?

Agree with your on the lack of due diligence and foresight it’s astonishing.
Can’t understand the outright incompetence in our recruitment & player management.
An internal revue must be done , how many years of doom & gloom can loyal supporters endure ?

Our coach selection process left plenty to be desired too. Teague is a great guy wish him all the best , team obviously get along with him but players should not be cited on this issue and ensuing media frenzy was farcical.
More professionalism and correct practices by club administration are urgently required.

This thread is insane. Has the start to the season been great? No. But it is a process. You do not go from worst team in the comp in 2015 to Premiers in 2021 if you want a sustained period of success. The Club was ripped apart from the ground up when Bolton came on. Some of the appointments have worked some have not. It is a continual period of growth and change. The goal (not communicated externally) was a flag by 2025. This is well on track.

I am lucky to have a number of contacts at the Club at Board level and through current and past players because of a company I am involved with. Feel free to dismiss this post. I don't care - I am not going to debate it with anyone. You can choose to see it as a load of crap or not. But I have decided for the first time in 5+ years of reading this thread from time to time to correct some of the information posted here and to hopefully give some hope to Blues fans that whilst the path is not easy, things are on track.

1. Murphy is being managed to 300 games because he had an excellent offer to leave the Club in 2015 and 2016, but we sold him on the value of being a 300 game blue. His tackling is massively impacted by shoulder issues - the kid has broken his body for the club. Think about culture. Do you think it is a good look to just discard someone who turned down a ton of cash to be loyal? How he has been treated by the Club has had a direct impact on recruiting both Jack Martin and Zac Williams. Was it smart to make that commitment in 2015/2016 - probably not. But if you want your club to have a soul...

2. The Board were not sold on David Teague. At the time our favourite Pokie King offered to pay the cost of recruiting Clarkson. This was seen as Mick 2.0 and rejected. When the Club performed the players were very strong in wanting him to have the top job. The process they put together recommended Michael Voss (who many believe is the architect behind Port's rise). Teague was the compromise candidate between factions. There are currently no moves to replace Teague. He would have received more support with Assistants at the end of last year but COVID made paying out contracts impossible. Pokie King would only step up if we got Clarkson. That offer still stands - he will pay all payouts etc to get Clarko and his desired assistants. Is that likely? No. If we are not close to the 8 by round 18 watch the drums beat. Voss is also still a possibility but likely to be at GWS.

3. Cripps is not going anywhere. He is playing injured. He loves the Club. There is zero repeat after me zero chance he goes back to WA

4. There is a rift between some of the younger players and the senior guys. Yes there is the feeling Teague has favourites. Some of the older guys also just cannot click with the younger ones. Simpson was a big part of this and why he did not play on. This happens at every club. Our development program is literally the worst in the league. The Club is currently spending $200k benchmarking this against other clubs programs and other sports. This will be the big focus of the offseason overhaul (as well as new assistants - assuming Teague keeps his head above water). It has created issues with some of the young guys who see what their friends at other clubs get in terms of one on one coaching, specific programs etc.

5. Teague is not the pussy he is portrayed as being. The screaming in Brisbane last year is a small fraction of what he is capable of. On Friday he broke a table in a massive rant at the playing group. Remember Teague as a player? Always put his body on the line. He is trying to instil that culture in the team but he is pushing hard up against 20 years of crap culture. For the record I am not a Teague apologist - I think he has serious short comings but I am not convinced he cannot take us to 17 yet. Young coaches take time.

6. The Club has been caught off guard by the speed of the game this year. We have moved away from speed in our drafting because the game became so stoppage focused. We will need to address this balance over the next year or two. This is a highly rated draft and expect at least 8 list changes. Very much a make or break year for a number of players. We will trade our 2022 pick to try and get another top 15 pick this year. As of December free agents we were into were Zach Merret, Christian Salem and Shaun Atley. Josh Kelly is also a possibility to leave GWS but not sure of our interest.

Keep the faith baggers. The club knows what needs to change and is determined to get there.

The thing im bewildered with re Murphy is that we improved/increased our inside 50 tackles last season and imo was a factor in improved results in many games .
So what do we go and do plonk a soft and defensively careless Murphy in there and expect the same .
We are as useless as we where under bolton re forward retention in our first 2 games other than the 3rd quarter v the pies .
All to nurse a player to 300 .

Thankyou! Broke a table.... wowsers... where is that Teague we want to see! Would do a world for supporters to see that level of investment and emotion.

I may have said this already but I would appreciate someone to put me in my place here if I'm wrong.

When we had possession of the ball we seemed to spread into a zone, including when we were kicking into our f50.
I was feeling quite negative and I understand that expectation absolutely informs how you see things so I want to know if anyone else noticed this?

Many times I felt I seen players WALK to fill holes in OUR OWN f50? It was baffling. They only way i feel I can articulate it is it looks like we are playing zone, against ourselves? Leaving no room our players to lead in to.

There is seemingly a divide on player effort vs structure here, and I have to say, when we are running around manic to no avail when we are in possession and our set ups leave us starting 3m off of our opponents it sure did look entirely like a structure problem.

The only thing I smell the Blues cooking right now is head coach soup. For better or for worse.
