A huge crowd turned out on Saturday night for the much anticipated 21st birthday party of Bigfooty poster Blues 2001.

The ground was in absolutely fantastic condition - although Blues 2001 was not strictly using his home ground, as a family friend had offered their premises for the night. It was much like Geelong playing a home match at the MCG - the traditional home ground is good for smaller occassions but a move had to be made for the good of the crowd. :)

A great night was had by all, with some magnificent early work done by Blues 2001's girlfriend. Judging by the state she was in when I arrived, it appeared she had been doing some pre-party 'training' and was well and truly tanked by the time speeches rolled around.

Which was just as well really, as otherwise the old gag of the ball-and-chain with the girlfriend's name may have got me and fellow speech writer Fat Red into trouble.

The speeches seemed to go down well, especially my detailed description of Ben Dixon's goal against the Blues. It was also interesting to note Blues 2001 donated his life savings (all $1 of it) to the Footscray Football Club in 1989 to help them avoid a merger.

Blues 2001 provided a serious lowlight by thanking the Fremantle football club before his girlfriend or family (I'm not joking either!).

After the half-time break of the speeches the 2nd half was a much more lively affair, with the effects of good music and free beer kicking in. One of the big moments came when the 3 foot speaker fell off the wall, but fortunately for both sides (male & female) there were no serious casualities, apart from one grazed knee (believed to be another PRI - P!ss related Injury) and a liver injury to myself.

There was some good talent on display, including a few surprise recruits from Blues 2001's uni course, and they showed some brilliant form throughout the night. Unfortunately, quite a few of these were 'tagged' out of the game by boyfriends, and some 'flooding' of the dancefloor by older relations made possessions hard to come by.

All in all a great night!

Votes:
1 vote - Fat Red, for his inspiring half-time speech and more importantly, big possession winning final quarter with the girlfriend in the corner.

2 votes - Blues 2001's girlfriend - for not clocking me when I mentioned all of his previous love interests in front of her AND her parents.

3 votes - That Erin chick - a brilliant debut performance by the rookie, apparently drafted from Blues 2001's uni course, she was everywhere and appeared to beat at least 4 opponents - certainly a potential party star of the future.

Great stuff Goalden One.

Thanks for your contribution to the great night that I had (and you too Fat Red if you're around).

P.S. Thanks Chris - a win yesterday certainly topped off the weekend!

Well, I only played Chris Connolly to GOALden Hawk's Peter Schwab, as he certainly did 90% of the preparation towards half time, including a very artistic ball and chain--what happened to that Blues2001?

Goalden hawk was also right in the middle of the pack for the entire second half, showing true hunger for the ball, while Blues2001 and I merely picked up the easy crumbs around the flanks.

While Goalden Hawk was perhaps the most prepared to put his liver on the line for the team, special mention to Nugget, who rolled up clearly feeling the effects of a previous match but proved the old adage that if you run on to the field you're 100% fit, and was the night's hardest trier without coming away with the points.

Very solid contributions from the MCC management; for once what was coming over the loudspeakers was keeping all the punters happy. Well done also to the umpires who put their whistles in their pockets and let the game flow.

As always, it was the Xavier boys who were going hardest in time on of the last quarter when the Marcellin contingent had gone home early like hawthorn fans with a train to catch at Spencer St.

Sunday morning rehab began at 10.30am  for breakfast and present-opening; Fat Red is facing disciplinary action for missing the team function of clean-up.

Blues 2001 will be getting an invitation to my 50th birthday party next year for that! :D

Sounds like you had a terrific time. A Blues victory was the perfect present! I'm hoping the Bulldogs present me with a Premiership for my 50th in September 2002....... well I can dream, can't I????? :D

Best wishes, Blues 2001!

Not only that, he went to the game with his girlfriend, who is a mad, mad Essendon girl. How good must life have been!

We've all hear of Blues and Fat's form, but more importantly what we want to know is were Goaldens rovings of the packs fruitful - did he score at all during the game?

Or is he the new Dixon - a lot of hard work which doesnt pay off on the scoreboard :D

BTW happy 21st Blues2001 :p

I like to think I played the team game...putting the welfare of fellow partygoers before my own game and stats. ;) :D

I think comparisons between myself and Ben Dixon are fair, the difference being my shot after the siren sailed out on the full, much to my dismay! :( :(

Team game???? Is there something you havent told us

Well Goalden, as they say, practice makes perfect, perhaps you should be getting out on the track during the week and practicing those scoring shots?????

My chances of getting out on the track this week look fairly limited due to a combination of work commitments and injury (the flu & general soreness from too much dancing and playing soccer the following day).

But hopefully a Friday training session at the pub after work should get me back into the swing of things before another important 21st next Saturday night, where I'll be hoping for a much improved performance by myself! :D ;) (Especially considering I'm having to miss the Hawthorn-Melbourne game  :( )
