What is going on at Optus Oval???

The ONE thing I have always admired about Carlton, has been there stable administration; they've had very few problems in this area.

Then there was season 2000:

* Salary cap problems
* Loss of Aaron Hammill (due to poor management)
* Coaching transition handled poorly
* Ditto the retirement of Fraser Brown and the re-signing of Craig Bradley.

Not too mention Big Jack's problems...

Now, CEO John Gurrieri resigns after one year in the job.

It appears that Carlton have finally hade a dose of the problems that seem to strike other clubs on a regular basis.

Not that this a bad thing.

It seems you are right and I'm confused.

All is not quite right in my footy world at present. I have had my first real glimpse at the Blues being fallible and I don't like it one bit.

This isn't a case of an arrogant fan getting what they deserved. Those that know me on these boards know I'm a footy fan not just a Blues fan. It's just that as you have pointed out, the Blues have appeared indestructable for so long now. Rival clubs will be rubbing their hands together with delight at these events. I say that if ever we needed to perform onfield to offset events onfield, now is the time.

I have faith, it's over to the players to show some pride.

Been to long in coming, more discord at Princes Park please, players strike before the season or something when they cant handle Brittans draconian ways. Elliot in a power struggle with Fitzy, the bootstudder walks out!!

Good for footy!

I believe the problems boil down to one thing

JOHN ELLIOT

He has been great for Carlton, we cannot deny his passion for his club, but has the man now become a passenger to his ego?
I used to work for Elders Pastoral when big Jack held the reins, the talk was you do it Jacks way or nick off. I imagine he is the same in every business endeavour, and personal pursuit, he is the boss, and things are to be done his way.
This sort of attitude will naturally cause disharmony, conflict, and just maybe this is now showing through.

Make no mistake, a strong Carlton is good for football, so I hope they overcome this situation rapidly

I agree with Maggie Greg. Gurrieri was pushed! I read the comments from Elliot and Coutts quoted in the paper. This is classic 'corporate speak' for when someone is being stood aside for basically not being up to the task. The nice 'speak' that you read is done in order to protect Gurrieri's future prospects - Carlton mean him no ill, just a facing up to the fact that he isn't the man to run their club.
