Rumour Blues coaching search debacle (down to their 4th or 5th choice)

Makes an absolute mockery of Sayers first presser where he said they will be appointing the most senior coach available and expect to make finals next year. That's ridiculous pressure on a first year debutant coach like a Yze or a Kingsley.
Do you win a flag for whose president does the best press conferences? Who cares?

OMG, there'll be pressure on an AFL coach? How will they manage?

This is all "narrative" and it counts for SFA.

They'll get a new coach, even if it's a highly rated first-timer, and he'll be judged on whether Carlton improve/play finals in the next 2-3 years. No one will care about Sayers' press conference in 2021.

If I’m a Carlton fan I’d be caring a lot as again it appears as tbe people in charge of that joint have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Doesn’t matter who coaches them whilst they people in power are incompetent.

It suggests that some folks on the board are not on the same page. You reckon that will affect their W/L record in 2022?

You guys have internalised the idea that this behind-the-scenes stuff determines whether a club wins games or not.

It's just leaning into off-field drama for the sake of it.

LOL you approach a guy and then later tell him you're going to take a 45 day process. Can anyone be surprised Ross told them to fu** off.

It's not like it's that great a job to begin with the chance you could be fired at any moment because they don't think you're improving fast enough even when you're tracking better than the 2 most recent "Super Coaches" in Clarkson and Hardwick.

Brad Scott apparently the favourite now not sure if we should wish him luck or not.

He’s actually a good coach. They could do a lot worse than him.

it will certainly affect their win loss if they can’t even sort out who the bloody coach should be.

This concept worked brilliantly for the previous two coaches lol

What concept? Sorry, how is this relevant? What's your point?

The last two coaches failed so Sayers' press conference becomes massively important? What are you on about?

The coach will be judged on the team's performance. Sayers' press conference in 2021 won't count for anything.

Does anyone remember the Sayers' press conference where he basically says they are appointing an experienced senior coach and fully expect to be playing finals next year?

What happens if the process spits out an excellent unproven candidate and they go the 'training wheels' route?

You don't want to be putting unrealistic expectations of playing finals on a new coach.

That is almost word for word what I said about a dozen posts back and it seemed to give @sweetjesus apoplexy. Maybe he's just still bitchy about the way the Eagles have fallen down to midfield in the umpires love ladder lol

No doubt it’s premature stupidity for any president to be making those declarations, in particular where the club is still in search for a coach.

No one is doing a potential month of interview processes. Clarkson wouldn't have too if he said yes. So why should any other coach in the comp feel obligated to put in which is why no one has put in for the job yet..

Sayers is trying to convince Bucks.

In the same way he convinced Lyon, only to be overruled by his Board?

No one, with any sense, is listening to what Sayers has to tell them.

Carlton's Board has set up a selection panel, set up a process, to retain any credibility they have to follow through on that.
