I just watched the game. Given the score, I have to say, I was expecting a lot worse...

This was not the “shameful performance” that I’ve heard it is. The Gold Coast game was far worse.

No doubt, this wasn’t a great showing by our boys, and we have plenty of areas that need improvement. We have some players that justifiably have some questions marks on them. But this was hardly a disaster, given the season we’re having.

Freo are on a bit of a roll, we’ve had a disappointing season. This game is hardly “breaking point” or “rock bottom”.

The coaches, players, and supporters need to put this behind them and move forward. We know where we’re at. It’ll turn around much quicker than most think.

How do you judge whether someone has applied himself the right way? I reckon our backline is the toughest place to play at this point, just barraged every week. Yet Weiters seems to be the main fall guy and not applying himself? He's a third year player in a bad team that is leaking possessions towards the backline. Not sure anyone would do particularly well in his stead.

I'm looking forward to a more balanced side in the years to come and allow him to grow with it, minus the baggage that comes with fielding the blame when times are tough. I'm as disappointed as the next member but we knew this was coming. It's hard to watch, and I couldn't yesterday but, it will get better.

Has this board changed?

I wasn’t expecting so many shit games, remember all the rebuild 3 years type stuff to be competitive

How many supporters don’t tell it like it is with soft excuses

It will come. The talent and signs are there. I see real talent in this group

Soapy, I love you man and that was a great post that makes me feel a tad better on a Sunday night but... the skills... the skills have been deplorable for three years. Even your boy LOB’s kicking has looked poor in the last couple of weeks (though I’ve loved his effort). He has an excuse being a first year player, but some of the older guys... it drives me up the wall. It’s as if they alway think they’re under pressure. And to me that speaks to something more than just it’s the third year of a rebuild.

I was embarrassed on Saturday. Not the lack of scoring but the inept skill level.

I guess it all about perspective. One person's excuse is another person's reality. I don't see the bolded quotation as an excuse, I see it as a reality of our circumstances. I don't see the point of looking back on roads travelled except to inform future decision making. We are a bad football team in the present but there is still hope. I don't care whose fault it is, I only care about fixing it whether it takes a month, a year or 3.
Back to the draft this year, build through another trade period for need, ensure we engage with the preseason which is cutting edge and prepares us physically and mentally for 2019 and, finally/hopefully, we emerge as a mid table threat and potential destination for A grade talent. A culture of blame is a waste of energy and I don't remember the 66 game rebuild was the impetus for being competitive not a final destination.

I don't get how AFL players can miss or fumble so many short handballs. It's the most basic skill of all, yet in so many of our losses they fumble it like it's a wet bar of soap.

LOB's kicking was actually quite good on Saturday despite how deplorable the skills were, overall.

Confidence. It's upstairs.

We've seen many of those players struggling on Saturday use the ball well before. It's not something you lose.

As soon as the first few turnovers happened and the defensive structure failed, the rot set in.

Stage fright. . Experience . Young talent takes time. Young talent time .

Coach... where have u been

Tell me, how many elite players at the Dogs when they won a flag? Bont? While others may have had an exceptional year, such as the likes of Libba, but they are not elite players

Tigers, Rance, Martin Cotchin?

It's not about elite, it is about your bottom 6 in the 22-28 range

Our bottom 6 - 10 in that range are either young and developing, or on their way out

Still a fair bit of work to do, end of this year will be ground zero, next year is when we start to see real signs

I hope so.

There's seems such a mountain of work yet to do.

Well tbh i thought it was the worst half of football i have seen from the club. Going back through the memory bank i am struggling to find a worse effort (we are talking around 50 years of watching the club ) .

The way i see it is this is a forum for supporters to voice their opinions on the Carlton footy club and what they (posters) are thinking.

The club is not immune from criticism as some seem to think. As for this idea that any criticism has to be constructive (i have even seen a poster say you can only say some thing negative as long as you say something positive) i am not sure that is a rule at all. Posters have the right to express an opinion that may be negative but do not have provide the remedy.

As for the attacking other posters it seems to be that the club apologists and self-appointed protectors of everything the club does are the ones that are leading the attack on anyone who has the temerity to disagree with the 'club is doing everything fantastically/wins and losses dont matter/ in 3-5 years will be a power ' line.
Amen!
