Someone claiming to be the mascot has posted a very long thread on the Carlton subreddit.

Hi my name is Cole, I'm the specific Carlton mascot that was in the newspapers for leaving a bar mitzvah.
I'm posting this to clarify.
This is the email I sent to my boss after I got home that night, & is what happened.
Hi [Boss], I left the bar mitzvah tonight before I performed as I found out the family were supporting Israel's military. I will send back the $250 they sent me, and briefly explain why I left, to [the boys Dad], in an email tomorrow. These are the events of what happened tonight if you'd like further explanation.
Events from tonight:

• I arrived and got dressed
• The event manager [name] told me I would be posing on stage at the end of speeches and then dance with the kids
• I watched the speeches, hiding to not ruin the surprise

The mom and dad spoke about:

• A relative that had flown down from Israel for this bar mitzvah
• Israeli hostages that had been released back into Israel recently
• Their pride in the country of Israel
• And then a bit about their son being a good kid

I was uncomfortable when they spoke about their pride in Israel, but wanted to believe they meant the Israeli citizens and communities.
Their son then got up to speak about:

• Being thankful for everyone at the party
• And his support and admiration for specifically Israeli soldiers (the military responsible for the occupation and genocide in Palestine)

I then audibly gasped, but wasn't close enough to the attendees to be heard. I asked someone in the band if the family of the boy were Zionists and he said he didn't know.
I listened for a bit longer and the kid kept expressing his support for Israeli soldiers, at which point I got up and tried looking for the event manager, but I could not find [them] so I packed the suit and left.
I chose not to express my objections as I thought it would reflect more on Carlton, than me, as a performer, challenging nationalist rhetoric.
I am sorry for the position this puts you in, but It's important to at least boycott Zionist business, if I cannot provide aid to palestinian victims in a more meaningful way.
Zionism is a political movement for establishing a Jewish nation in Palestine. Israel's government and military believe this goal is worth the lives of more than 67 thousand Palestinians as of now. [edit: this number is only from the last 2 years]
All war is bad and sympathy for all veterans is valid, but the family made very clear their support for Israel's government and military, which is not something I can stand by.
I do appreciate you putting in the effort to organise this gig, and hope I communicated the importance of my decision to not perform at this specific event.

I forgot to say, when I was leaving, I ran past the doorman, and said "family emergency" because I panicked.
I was pretty sure they were talking about a fundraiser for the soldiers, but I didn't want to say that in the email, incase I misinterpreted where the money was going.
The point of me leaving was to show them it's not just business, and performers WILL refuse to work for anyone with bigoted, cruel, or wilfully ignorant beliefs (Zionism, Nazis, or any other superiority culture)

Firstly, you’re putting words in my mouth because I did NOT say that. I was saying they employed the Hannibal Directive on October 7, which is a protocol IDF soldiers follow to prevent their own soldiers from becoming hostages. They prefer to kill their soldiers than having them captured as living hostages. The fact they employ the Hannibal Directive is not a conspiracy theory - it is well known. It is also not a conspiracy theory to say they killed their own people on October 7 btw - this is also well-known.

The main conspiracy theory surrounding this conflict is that the IDF deliberately allowed Hamas to invade in the first place. That isn’t confirmed, but it’s a bit suspicious that Hamas was able to breach their defences without detection if you consider Egypt gave them intel on this + how sensitive their detection methods are. Even former IDF soldiers were perplexed at how long Hamas went undetected if you saw their interviews.
But I digress, it’s confirmed they killed their own citizens on that day.

I may as well get ahead and say that what I said a couple of days ago (i.e., that their ultimate goal is taking Gaza and the West Bank) isn’t a conspiracy theory either. In the last 24 hours, it was revealed the Israeli Knesset preliminarily approved 2 bills to annex the West Bank. As I said, they’ll find one way or another to move towards their ultimate aim.

The army contributed to Israeli deaths due to the Hannibal Directive. To say that the Hannibal Directive was given to increase Israeli deaths to make the pretext for going in an destorying Gaza is silly. Nobody is saying that, specifically.

To deny that the Hannibal Directive was ordered, however, is not just ignorant, but is actively choosing to ignore facts. Why did Israel order the Hannibal Directive? It's an easy answer, they didn't want a hostage situation where Hamas has leverage.

When you consider that for every death that Israel brought upon its own citizens, it claimed those numbers as being responsible by Hamas. It's pretty convenient that not only by killing your own citizens you eliminate the hostage issue, but you get to blame the other side.

It is not far off the mark to say that Israel was waiting for a pretext to bomb the absolute shit out of Gaza to make the place uninhabitable so that it could drive the Palestinians out. October 7 provided that pretext.

You have to wonder about the claims made by IDF soldiers which were at the border on the morning of October 7, who were ordered to stand down, why this order was given. And also, why Israel failed to heed the repeated warnings by Egyptian authorities in the days leading up to October 7 that an attack was imminent.

You also have to wonder how Israeli intelligence, considered to be the most efficient and competent in the world - one that could pull of a highly sophisticated pager attack on Hezbollah, seemingly had no idea that October 7 could and would happen.

I'm as far from a conspiracy theorists as you'll find, yet these questions remain unanswered. In my mind, given everything we know about Israeli capabilities, so much of October 7 doesn't add up. When factoring in Israel's expansionist objectives, the logical deductions are very few.
