Blues spy nicks tips from former boss

A Carlton spy has caught the eye of the Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams at a lengthy training session at Alberton Oval in Adelaide.
Blues assistant coach and former Power player Brett Montgomery, took advantage of a day off to drop in and watch his old side ahead of the Pre-Season cup.

Mark Williams ensured a steady stream of Power officials spoke to the Carlton assistant to stop him learning too much about Port Adelaide's game plans.

Montgomery says he has learnt a lot and was not suprised by the Power's impressive fitness levels.

"It's great information to feed back to Carlton about who's up and going, who's not," he said.

"[There are] different things that they're starting to try... they're well coached, well driven, good cultural group, no surprises there at all."

I may be looking a little too far into this, but if (A bit IF) Ratten's sent over a man to see how Port Adelaide is progressing, I think he intends on doing well in the Pre-season comp! Oh god!

you could be right, but i think we will have a very young and experienced team playing for most of the match!! such as playing all the new players!

so if they do well, then it would be a bonus

I hope once our team is on the park Ratten does intend to do well. The NAB will give him the chance to practice unraveling the opposition game plan.
He is also in a training phase and like the young guys, could do with a run at this level against a premiership coach.

Perhaps, however, why not have a look at as many clubs during there pre-season work. You'd have to figure that most, if not all clubs, are doing the same things.

I think you guys are forgetting Montgomery was over there to see friends/family. It was a day off and, ever committed, he took the opportunity to see some old mates and see what he can glean. It was not an official spy session. If it was, we wouldn't use someone as recognisable as Montgomery - unless he was a decoy ;)

Wouldn't be too concerned mate, probably just keeping tabs on one of the league's more innovative coaching outfits. ;)

or it's just that this is how thorough he is, even when he isn't 100% serious about a contest.
