What is the 2015 Carlton Football Club Gameplan? I'm not sure I know but I have an opinion on what it should be based on the cattle we have.

Defensive tactics could include:

Multiple taggers - seems to be part of our current strategy but when the opposition gets a run on we don't seem to be able to close it down nor do we have the ability to stop the outlet handball/throw
Hug the boundary - ball retention or minimise the negative outcome strategy - can work if you win the resulting clearances from throw ins but we don't seem to do it well ie when we win the clearance the disposal is a rushed kick rather than a releasing hand pass
Loose man in Defense - other teams apply successfully to us when we dominate clearance and have a run on - could we apply successfully - if so who? Two required - Simpson or Everitt?

Attacking tactics could include:

Clearances R Us - Tap ruckman ie 206 and we load up on clearance specialists in the middle ie Judd, Gibbs, Cripps and Bell - everyone else who plays on the wings have to be outside, run players with good disposal skills
Talls up Forward - we seem to be trying this at present - might only work if we get clearances and they aren't blind kicks forward - I suggest combine with Clearances R Us not Multiple Taggers
Licence to thrill - this works for others but they tend to have better skills but if I am going to continue watching then I would prefer to see the ball moving at speed out of backline with run and carry. May require some different selections (speedy good ball users) and some different structures - if teams continue to play us man on man then we may need to huddle wide
Mosquito Fleet - we recruited for run and carry this year and have plenty of running HBFs, go with 2 Talls back & forward, utilities as 3rd tall and speed at all cost - we will get hurt by Talls if we lose one to injury but let's run, run, run them off their feet

Everyone has opinions for each game/who should play, but maybe you have an opinion for what Carltons 2015 Game Plan should be known for - if so then Vote or Post.

I'd like to see us open up the corridor a bit more. We saw how effective and dangerous we can be throughout the NAB Challenge by occasionally going t the long torp right up the middle or having a kick into the centre corridor from half back or the wing that opens up our F50. Sure its not a tactic we should use every single time, but by playing it a bit more often it makes us a lot more dangerous and unpredictable.

Also moving the ball on a lot faster will help bring our quick runners into the game, and we saw how much more effective we were when it was in play during the NAB Challenge. Because we were moving the ball a lot quicker we had the ability to take much safer possessions (uncontested marks) rather than playing slowly and then having no option but to go down the line where it goes out of play and we then lose the resulting clearance.

Of course there is more risk involved in this style of play, and perhaps we don't have the skills to pull it off as well as Port or Sydney etc. but I still see it as something we should use a bit more often.

Being first to the footy would help a lot.

I would like to see us be a corridor-based team. Name me a club that isn't these days - * even Freo rebound through the corridor these days. I heard from a very good senior coach himself that the game changes every 6 months. And sorry, but right now the boundary line ain't the answer.

To say we don't have the skill is a blatant lie IMO, aside from maybe 4 players in our team, I think we have the footskills to nail 25-40m passes through the middle no problems. Gibbs, Touhy, Menzel, Murphy, Hendo, Yarran etc - these guys are elite kicks of the footy, especially when playing with running and confidence which corridor footy provides. It also provides us with 2 options in regards to slowing the game down - both wings.

To say it leaves us open to get cut up on the rebound is a bigger lie. We go around the boundary and we leave the corridor wide open and as soon as we turn it over - we're ****ed. We saw that the past 2 weeks. It also leaves little chance to switch and attack as it takes too long to get the ball on the other wings/flanks.

Of course I don't want to see Pagan style shootouts, a balance would be ideal. I also think this style of play creates confidence and forces players to back themselves. Given our list of players are a bunch of fragile head cases, this suits them the best.

To see our players create space up the field so our player with the ball has options.

Currently seeing our players look to the corridor first (they do) before heading towards the boundry line as there is no viable options in the corridor.
Playing safe rather than for each other.

Less rushed kicks & long kicks to contests, more handball & short passes. I'd like to see Carlton work harder to retain possession. We're winning the ball & giving it to the opposition at the moment
YesYesYesYesYesYesYes.............

We've got a guy starving to death in the forward line with more footballing IQ than 15 of our guys put together, elite kicking kills in both accuracy and length , tackles brilliantly, is fast of the mark and on the run and can mark.

Run him through the midfield FFS. If he runs out of gas, who gives a *.

If he can't be a better mid than White, Carrazzo, Curnow or Everitt i'll root my dog.

We're damned if we do and damned if we don't. We're in the ugly patch of a rebuild. It won't matter a hell of a lot what we do but this year more than any is the worst year to be where we are as even the bottom sides of previous seasons are on the way up. GWS, GC, Dogs, Saints, Melbourne etc aren't that bad. We won't have easy games.

I think stick to our guns. Which is, try and play direct fast moving football, try and get it in the corridor but if no one's able to get themselves open then take the safe route. Trust me if we go to extreme measures to go up the middle things are going to get very very ugly for us. Teams like Essendon, Hawthorn, Port, Fremantle will beat us by 20 goals if we're forcing play up the middle and turning it over there. Our current tactics are why we aren't getting beaten by 15-20 goals every week, not why we aren't winning games of football.

I want to see us back in our younger players a bit more and play more ball winning midfielders in the side. We're going to have a very tired Judd, Gibbs and Murph if we don't. We'll see these players prematurely retire/leave us if we don't.

I want to see us back in Casboult more and play him closer to goal and put up with his poor kicking. Part of our rebuild and improvement is getting this guy as many shots on goal as we can during matches, it's the only way to see him improve, whereas in the past we've pushed him up the field to avoid him having so many shots on goal.

Graham, Whiley and Cripps need to play a lot of senior football. They aren't overly quick, they aren't overly experienced and don't have much in the way of good AFL football behind them but they are our only hope of turning our fortunes around. Not relying on Judd, Murphy and Gibbs is the very first thing that needs to be addressed for us to improve. Modern AFL teams bombard the opposition with high and quality rotations through the midfield, it's all about managing the energy levels of their main ball winners. Murphy could be a very good small forward mid like Gray at port but as of yet we haven't setup like this. We know Gibbs is a gun half back. Judd needs to be played more forward than he is otherwise he'll be gone very soon. If we're lucky we may get a pleasant surprise if these kids come in and do well it could turn us around.

Grin and bare it a little bit, play a bit to develop and bring on and test out the new generation at the expense of playing to win a little bit. I'm happy with us losing games as I don't expect much from us any time soon as long as we're getting something out of it and as long as we're getting some improvement from our young players.

We're back where we were in around 2005 with only ourselves to blame. We built this list, now we have to fix it.

The key for us is patience and stability. We can't get in a fluster over losing games of football, we need to understand that that's part of the process as unfortunate as it is. We saw this coming, that's why the big off field turnover happened, now we have to be gutsy while things are tough. We've just got to get good people in place who will do a good job and start to bring in some serious young talent. We're going to get the opportunity to do that this year.

SOS is the most important man at the footy club. Far more important than Trigg or Malthouse or MLG at the moment. How good we are in 2020 will be determined by SOS.

I think I am coming around to the fact that maybe Henderson has to go back to the backline for now. I would like to see Watson come in for a few weeks in the fwd line so he can get the confidence not only for himself but the team. I don't necessarily agree in playing all the kids at the same time.

Midfield mix to be sharpened up by adding some more pace, skill, dare and youth, out Curnow & Carrazzo, in anyone who fits that criteria.

Take the game on, run and carry, break lines etc and if you lose it chase the **** back, come of your man and pressure or tackle the ball carrier, do not go into survival or selfish mode by not attempting to influence a contest.

Forget about results and start to expose players and get games into them for the future.

Another midfield option is Docherty, at least that's what we were told when he got recruited.

s**t, try anything and anyone through there, we are getting slaughtered.
