I just bumped a thread, and found it was in some part of the forum called 'Hey there groovers' or something, and have NFI where I ended up.. So I decided to make this. Woo!

Started on Tuesday, and have listened to the Blur whole discography from start to finish, and remembered how much I enjoy their work. Reminded me of songs I havnt given a second thought to for a year or so, and fell in love with songs I prebiously didnt really like such MOR and Bettlebum.

After listening to Coffee and TV, I obviously had to download the music video, which is one of my favourite clips.. if not my number one, surely in the top 2 or 3. I then however downloaded a damn Trojan with the video, but I sorted that out.

Anyway, to any Blur fans, if you havnt listend to much in a while, or are sick of hearing shyt on the radio, I urge you do chuck on cd! :thumbsu:
 
He is a supremely talented that Damon bloke, can't help but think he is a supreme dlckhead with it though. This is my favourite Blur video, one of their better songs too and shows Damon in all his full dlckhead glory ...

Brilliant band and I love all the brit pop stuff up to The Great Escape. After that there are a few I like such as Coffee & TV & Beetlebum.

Country House is surely the most perfect pop song of the 90's

I think all of their albums (excluding Leisure, which I think is pretty horrible, wouldn't have picked them to release anything decent after that album) are brilliant, I won't bother trying to put them in order...

My personal favourite few songs would have to be Magic America from Parklife, Trimm Trabb from 13 and Country Sad Ballad Man from their self titled album. Lots of other great tracks though!

Not really on topic, but I'm also a HUGE fan of Graham Coxon's last couple of solo albums, kinda reminiscent of Blur's self titled album. Check out Happiness in Magazines and Love Travels at Illegal Speeds if you don't mind that kind of thing, and don't mind the occasional bad lyric or dodgy album titles. :thumbsu:

haha, and as has been said before, Damon Albarn may be a petulant w***er of the highest order, but he knows great pop music.
 
Well I've been rinsing Blur this week.

I grew up around them. I blame my parent's for instilling my inherent melancholy and the appreciation they had for Coffee and TV's video probably resonated with me too much. That and Daft Punk's Da Funk. Anyway, I feel like I've just remembered how much of a staple their singles were in my life and in culture. It's always nice being re-familiarised with music like that.

Weirdly enough, my favourite's probably The Great Escape. All about Best Days on that, but the first seven songs in general are just so good. Modern Life Is Rubbish hasn't sunk in yet. Really struggling to appreciate much on Leisure.

Genuinely digging Think Tank as well, it's definitely got that Gorillaz atmosphere to it. That light sheer of sadness or something, the slower speed. Even his vocals. Good Song, On the Way to the Club, Sweet Song, and Battery in your Leg are all pretty, dainty, romantic things and some of the best they've churned out. Some nice textures on those songs which make it sound like London. Oh and seriously, Crazy Beat isn't that bad of a song!

They're all a bunch of total pricks though and I think Albarn's politics are boring but I still like the guy somehow. Maybe it's an appearance thing.

Think Tank is still the only one I really like (that 2002-2006 Albarn era in general is awesome, it does have a Gorillaz vibe). It's a great companion piece to Demon Days.

Yeah, say what ever you will about Albarn, but he knows a good melody.

And he's a fantastic musician who can still keep abstract songs accessible. Things like El Manana and most of Think Thank. I do like the guy for some reason but man is he one arrogant twat. I'll never get over that coked up video where they're just bullying old Nardwuar.

It's a real shame they'll probably never come here again. Big Day Out was huge but that whole issue probably made them more wary – how many promoters do you have after AJ willing to potentially lose money? Chugg at the most. Clive Palmer if he buys mustard coloured skinny jeans. Country House, Charmless Man, Advert, M.O.R.... those songs would kill a festival in the best way possible. Would be a sing-along a minute.

it is a shame.
what's even a bigger shame is what happened this new blur album?

i mean.. they had some pretty strong songs and momentum with Fools Day, under the westway & puritan. add to that the Olympic games gig. the massive box set , then the band going back into the studo with william orbit. Orbit saying that these new songs are the business.. it all seemed very close.. then Damon pulls out of it. That must have killed the others, especially coxon.. who was up for it and riding of the good vibes from the gigs etc.

i'll listen to the new Damon album of course but its a pity Blur could not get it together

also coxon's mid run of solo albums are pretty damn essential if you have not already checked them out..

just full of great hooky, gritty poper-pop..

 
Their take on melancholy is some of the best I've heard; the run and the consistency is just pretty astounding. They really get what it means to, quote Albarn, "have someone let down your tyres." It's probably one of my favourite feelings and it's a genuine joy and highlight of life to experience his songs soundtracking that.

And how he can put a spin on it too and create a real vibe... especially with something like To The End and that mystical and charming sound it has.
 
I wasn't a huge fan of the mid 90s Britpop pill popping Blur.

More a fan of the melancholy doped up Blur of the late 90s and early 2000s







Out of Time is underrated, stops me in my tracks every time I hear it. Brilliant song.

That's when Damon Albarn strode past Noel Gallagher and Oasis who were still stuck in the mid 90s mouthing off at him.

He cemented his superiority with Gorillaz and showed he wasn't a one trick pony.
