Can't remember seeing much lovin' for Husker Du and Sugar since I started checking the music board.Husker Du would have to be right up there in influencing so many other bands in the 80 and 90's along with the Pixies and Sonic Youth

One of the best rock voices ever for mine, thought I'd pay some homage' to the great man.

3 of those songs i've always really loved.... 'could you be the one' ' don't want to know if you are lonely' (although Grant Hart the drummer wrote and sang that one) and 'if i can't change your mind'

I bought 'Candy Apple Grey' about 6 or 7 years ago beacause of the fact i loved the only 2 songs i knew of Husker Du (those above) so i thought i'd love it,and i've got to say i was a little disappointed....

Although i think it's a pretty good album,i don't really like anything off that album as much as CYBTO and DWTKIYAL...

Maybe i should give another album of theirs a try...

IICCYM is the only song i know by Sugar, and i think it's a pearler, so i should try some more of them too

Yep there's a few of them gone. Crystal Ballroom was another that occured to me after I'd posted.

I reckon the best I saw at the Sands was Lemonheads.

Punters is the only venue I ever got thrown into. We jumped out of a window one stinking hot night, a bouncer saw us and insisted that we go back inside and exit 'in the correct manner' which meant we had to fight our through the crowd inside to the side doors.

In my reckoning, vying with Mark Lanegan and Chris Cornell as the greatest frontman of the 80's/90's. Husker Du were, and remain, timelessly sensational. Their cover of "Eight Miles High" was the first I heard of them in 1984 and I've been hooked ever since. Like missing a Zappa concert, never seeing Husker Du play live is one of the great regrets of my life.

Sugar are perhaps the most under-rated band of the 1990's, which is fine by me as there's just some choice cuts of rock you like to keep to yourself and the rare few other like-minded individuals such as those appearing on this thread. We'll share Soundgarden and Janes Addiction with the masses, to be sure, but sometimes I like to keep such gems from that era as Sugar and Sunny Day Real Estate a little under wraps.

Sugar's amazing 'Copper Blue' (undoubtedly in my top 5 albums of all time) is a masterpiece, though only a whisker ahead of 'Beaster' which is also sensational despite only being about 30 minutes in length. Like the rest of the 'Beaster' CD, "Judas Cradle" and "JC Auto" at full blast in my iPod is one of life's great indulgences and the sort of tracks that I can never tire of even though I've heard them hundreds of times. And 'File Under Easy Listening' is a pretty phenomenal release too. Magnificent three piece band.

And then there's his broad expanse of solo stuff, which invariably combines Bob's awesome musicianship with his incredible raw emotionality and great songwriting. Jeez I love Bob Mould.

I saw him at the Sarah Sands in the early '90s. Swapped him a cigarette for his guitar pick.
Shame you didn't give him a full pack, CS. Might have got the whole guitar? Very nice memorabilia though. Hope your grandchildren will truly appreciate it's worth.

He was great. I'd just lit up a ciggy and he leant over and asked for one during the show. Afterwards he came over to say thanks and I asked if I could have the pick and he said fine.

Cigarettes are good currency when it comes to rock'n'roll. I was once backstage at a Nick Cave show and buddied up with Nique Needles-he had booze and I had cigarettes and we were the best of friends for the night.

Fantastic post, Ghost.Couldn't have expressed it better myself.

The bolded gave me a wry grin.

Perhaps like many,I'd forgotten his greatness post Husker Du and moved on to other things, until the 'Copper Blue' album came out and RRR played it almost religiously during the ensuing months.I think it ended up winning the album of that year.

It was like discovering him all over again.

Anyone who appreaciates The Gun club,Husker Du and PowderMonkeys as much as i do is all right by me.:thumbsu:

the Huskers and Sugar are the first things I put on my iPod when I got it. It is traversty that Nirvana did a cross over from indy obscurity but the much more talented and original Bob Mould and his Bands never did - no justice

"Tilted" by Sugar is mad! "A Great Idea" is pretty good too.

My fave Husker Du songs are "Hardly Getting Over It" followed by "Something I Learned Today", "Flip Your Wig" and "Powerline".

"Black Sheets of Rain" and "See a Little Light" are my pick from his solo stuff.

The phone is ringing and the clock says four A.M.
If it's your friends, well I don't want to hear from them
Please leave your number and a message at the tone
Or you can just go on and leave me alone

Some of the greatest lyrics of all time.

I just noticed not one of the links I posted in the OP from 2 years ago are still extant on utube. All removals are presumably due to copyright breaches.

It really is a disgrace how everyone is running scared of the record companies and we have to scratch around for subpar offerings. I'd be suprised if the band themselves approve.

For some reason I can't see any of those embedded vids, evo. Just get a big white box with a little kinda photo icon in the top left corner? Bugger.
