Why can't this be accepted as what it is.

Beveridge gave Murphy his Medal, it was a great moment, move on.

No discussing if the a new medal should be made specially, no discussion on whether Bob gives it back. Its a great moment, take it for what it is.
Liking this comment is insufficient to express how much I agree with it. Have a :thumbsu: too.

I dont think you understand. The people that claim to have been in war and present themselves as war vetrans. When they are not

He didnt steal the medal, it was a gesture by a very considerate coach of just what this guy means to his club & that group of young players.
I think you are being very disingenuous & are very wrong in your analogy.

In the end players coaches can do with the medals what they want anyway, including selling them.

Something unusual and against conventional wisdom (for football) happened.

Some will hate it, some wont care & some will love it.

It's no mystery. Don't get you panties wet because someone disagrees with your take.

Don't get your panties wet because some dudes you've never met are having a good time and hurting no one.

was a beautiful moment and a beautiful gesture - Gordon only ruined it by his moves the next day, is all. But thats hardly the two in questions fault.

Bob Murphy accepting unashamedly a premiership medal and carrying on like a premiership player is no different to a fraud marching in the Anzac parade with a medal for bravery claiming to be a war vetran

Holy shit. I think it's time for a nap mate

I tell you what, if someone had told me at the start of the year that one of the biggest issues post season was that our coach recognised our injured captain by giving him his premiership medal, then I'd say the season was pretty much a success.

We aren't talking about Essendon, there's not much talk of sacking coaches, no teams are being shamed to the point of people questioning their existence, nope, an injured captain was called up on stage by his coach and was given a medal, and that's a big deal.

and that's big footy!

Ah, I'm understanding now. Verbatim regurgitation is you thing.

Maybe you should stick to reading the HeraldSun rather than a football forum if you feel more conformable around collective group think?

Nobody is saying he stole it, except a bit of lime light from the team that actually won a premiership.
Tony Modra won the Coleman medal, all Australian and tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the preliminary final in 1997.
I guess poor Bob, deserved a medal.

I worked for Fairfax for a 10 years. It doesn't agree with me ideologically to consume the enemy.

Maybe you need to open a consultancy to help teams establish how they'll do complex things like lifting trophies etc.

Stewie Maxfield was the Swans captain (and 200 game veteran) at the start of 2005, played 5 games. Injured his knee. 72 year drought. I don't remember there being such a fuss. I guess he'll get a medal now.
Didn't he retire after his 200th because he was travelling home every week due to a family issue?

You said it was like fraud!! Your analogy is totally wrong & it is totally unfair. Bob was given a medal by his coach. Thats their business, he did it infront of the nation to acknowledge how he felt about the value & contribution of this guy. EOS.
If any other club/ player felt the same way about someone, thats their business too.

I know I am shooting bambi here, but honestly I am over hearing and seeing him the last week or so. Yes he is unlucky to have gotten injured but the fact is he did not play on Saturday.

Nearly every main picture of the celebrations has him holding the cup.
agree.
but bevo hardly gave him a chance to stand on the sideline either

You've spent the last few pages telling the Bulldogs how they should be celebrating.
LOL, lack of self awareness . . . sure you don't still work at Fairfax?

How was my analogy wrong? He is as much a premiership player as the fraud that posses as a vetran in a parade. The dias on gf day is usually for the 22 players and coach.
Bobs media commitments have given him some level of entitlement.
Bevo is an amazing character and peoples person.
Handed it to him, fair enough. He clearly knows how Bob ticks and made him happy.

IMO bob is embarrassing and self centred, instead of celebrating with the team, he made it about himself

By holding a trophy.

So when my team won the cricket GF a few years ago, the lower graders who drank from the trophy, who got their strides off and sang the team song on the pool table - did they make it all about them? Because I'd strongly suggest they were just enjoying themselves.

This isn't cricket nor normal custom in footy
