Seems like a very sizable amount of Bulldogs fans have a similar attachment to Murphy that Essendon fans had for Hird.

How dishonest it is to make the comparison to James Hird. That Bloke ran his club into the dirt.

Bob Murphy had the captaincy thrust upon him when the club was on its knees. He then galvanized the playing group under the trust of a new coach, and got them all to believe that a premiership was on the horizon. Do you have any idea what the morale was like at the end of 2014? Bob Murphy and Luke Beveridge (along with Dale Morris and Matthew Boyd) turned that around.

I don't give a shit about people who say he didn't contribute to this, because I know those people have never played football at a decent level, and couldn't possibly understand the value of off field leadership. He's one of the most loved and respected players in the AFL for a reason. A genuinely humble good bloke who wanted to be the one to lead this club to the promised land, and it was all torn away from him in round 3. How anyone with a heart can feel anything but compassion and sympathy for Bob Murphy IDFK. He didn't ask to go up on the stand, bevo called him up while he was standing quietly at the back of the playing group. He doesn't care about himself, this is what he cares about: http://s.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL Tenant/AFL/Files/Images/1_GFSyWB16MW4317.jpg This entire bigfooty display of trying to find faults with anything to do with our premiership is nothing but jealousy and bitterness.

We just think he was a bit flogish.
Cool story though

Their are a lot of **** heads on big footy who like to do what they can to belittle others accomplishments ,and you can't stop them sniping from the anomimity of the internet ,they generally tend to have the mind of a school yard bully but sadly the body of a 12 year old girl and the heart of a pea
Simple facts are it was the best granny I've seen in ages
It was a brilliant finals run by the dogs ,probably the best ever
Bob Murphy was called up on stage by the coach in what turned out to be the classiest thing I've seen in footy
He was invited to take the cup with Easton Wood by Beveridge
It wasn't all about Bob as some clowns on here are trying to suggest ,it was about his team mates demonstrating their love and respect for him

The dicks on here who can't see that are sad little f@#ks
The ones who won't see it are even sadder

You sure about that?
Relevance?

We celebrated the premiership as we saw fit, in a very Bulldogs way and in the context of what transpired during the season. If you blokes are lucky enough to sip from the premiership cup, you can have a combination of Ricky Nixon in his jocks, Kim Duthie and the burning dwarf to hold up the cup for all I care.

Kim Duthie and the burning dwarf holding up the cup ...oh hell yes
God it would be worth the saints winning it next year just to see that

Strange you'd compare Murphy's influence in winning a GF to those non-footballers.

Probably apt though.

Only if the dwarf was actally on fire and Kim was wearing a school dress.
Then it would be worth it.

Seeing as you enjoy being so literal and have no detectable sense of humour, let's say you guys surge next year and manage to win the flag. Riewoldt does his knee early in the season and acts as a major motivational tool for the playing group throughout the year - it would be wonderful to see him invited up on stage to hoist the cup aloft. Only a bitter fool would begrudge the act.

Agreed
It would be even better if the afore mentioned flaming dwarf then called Ricky Nixon in his stripy jocks onto the podium and handed him his medallion

What did Hird do in his playing days to run the club into the dirt? Sensitive much. The point I am making by that is you guys will never see fault in him where neutrals may notice some questionable things.

Quite simply him not voluntarily returning the Beveridge medal in private before Gordon has run his mouth is not a good look.

Him being so prominent in the Sunday celebrations was not really the look of a dignified 34 year old leader who did not play.

Him singing in the circle while Lin Jong(who played 16 games, broke a bone and came back a few weeks later to be BOG in the VFL) among certain other players who also missed, was not the best look for the club.

And finally if he is captain of the Bulldogs next year ahead of premiership captain Wood who looked like a real leader of men this weekend it would be incredibly selfish of him. Yet it feels like you Dogs fans would not see that. Still think Wood will be named captain for 2017.

the old "you've never played (at the highest/decent/any level) chestnut. many scribes did not reach the upper echelon of AFL football. do they disqualify themselves? Also, it does sound like you give a shit otherwise your post would not exist.

BUT.....aside from bolded bit you are almost spot on. Murphy is well respected amongst the community.

Fair enough...for a neutral's perspective. However for most of us Bulldogs we are well content with how things have been handled by all parties (though I personally hold reservations about Gordon's request for another medal). Ultimately how the club celebrates is up to them. Last week we were all told to keep a lid on it. That might work for others but not for us

One thing though: regardless of Jongs contributions this year, if you don't understand why Bob would be in that circle and not Jong or any of the others you don't truly understand what Bob means to the Bulldogs

I just hope the extreme levels of love for him do not get in the way of what is best for the club.

Don't think it will. Bevo and Bob may be the heart and soul of the club but they aren't the whole club. One of the reasons the are exalted as they are is because they both put the club first. Bevo's gesture to Bob on Saturday was recognition of Bob doing just that throughout his career and especially the last two years

Do we know this as fact? Gordon seems to be a bloke that can shoot from the hip a bit, wouldn't surprise me if he made that call for a replacement medal, regardless of knowing if Bob had returned the medal or not.
