Other mainboard threads at the top of the page right now:

Swans cancelling premiership reception. Most overrated player in the AFL ever. Channel 7 football coverage not up to standard. Are Hawthorn about to become the Brisbane Lions?

At least the Bob Murphy story is positive. Well, it was anyway, until you decided it wasn't interesting and decided to have a sook about it.

Stewie Maxfield was the Swans captain (and 200 game veteran) at the start of 2005, played 5 games. Injured his knee. 72 year drought. I don't remember there being such a fuss. I guess he'll get a medal now.
The reason he didn't is the same reason most footballers wouldn't even want to be on the field.

Murphy was the first person out of the race after the players. Was on the bench during the game and part of celebrations after it.

I've never met a footballer that would do that in a GF where they weren't playing. Even in local leagues players don't. Conventional wisdom is you don't want to be a distraction or for people to see your disappointment. Hell Murphy even admitted during the week he had mixed feelings.

It worked for the Bulldogs but I found it strange.

Did anything of any significance happen to Sydney in 2003?

I think you're missing the point, it has nothing to do with the drought, it has to do with what Murphy does behind the scenes and has done behind the scenes with the coaching group and playing group collectively to build the side to this point.

No idea what you're on about re: 2003. And do you think Maxfield didn't do the things you're going on about? It's one and the same and I'm sure there are any number of similar examples.

I call bullshit. From this post id say you've never played. Ever local club I've been involved in, played at, or watched games of, injured blokes (especially leaders) spend game day helping the coaches, running the board, assistant coaching if the club has a playing coach, running messages etc etc etc
An LTI Player being on the bench is standard. You've spent countless hours and posts since Saturday sooking about the dogs. No one takes what you say as logical, you're just a pissy saints fan

2016 we won the flag, 2014 we lost everything a team needs to be successful.

2014 is 2 years before 2016.

2003 is 2 years before 2005.

What of any significance happened to Sydney in 2003?

so you're angry at your club for not doing it then?

Hmm, I've generally seen them in the coaches box to be honest (if they are club leaders - otherwise, in the stands). Sometimes on the bench (more common in suburban footy), but in the box seems more common. I'm in no way doubting they contribute (some, anyway, including Murphy).

Forget putting others in that position. Put yourself in that position. You've spent your adult life with one group of people, stuck with them through the shittest times and some good times, just as you're primed to help them to something special, pure bad luck f***s you in the bum.

Your fans are shattered, your teammates are shattered. You show up to every game for the rest of the year, you do your best to be a good leader in every non playing aspect. Your club design the unthinkable and wins. Your clubmates and coach insist on putting you in the forefront of the celebrations, despite being shattered that you didn't play you still want to celebrate like it's your last day on earth. And most importantly, your teammates and fans LOVE you being a part of it.

Who the f*** in that situation WOULDN'T get involved? At the end of the day the only people it should concern are hi clubmates and the Dogs fans. Clearly they don't care, so get the hell over it.

Bob Murphy went into bat for Adam Goodes more than any other non-Swans player in the league...he is a genuinely good human and deserves every bit of happiness that this premiership will bring him.

Why would I be? Just providing a relevant example. Personally, I like it to be all about the players who were out there on the day. There are any number of other people who have contributed too.

Well you're bringing up him not getting a medal. The dogs (bevo) chose to give murphy one. So if it's an issue that maxfield didn't get one, then it's your club causing the issue.

Also, why does it personally matter what you think? The dogs were happy for murphy to be heavily involved. And since they're the club who won, they are the only involved party

I actually got my threads mixed up (with the Peter Gordon asking for another one). That was the main reason I bought it up, somewhat tongue in cheek. I don't think anyone who wasn't out there on the day should be getting an extra - no issues that one was given away, just please don't ask for more.

No, because Bevo is a better bloke than Roos.

Edit - saw your response above.

What's wrong with asking the question? They probably won't get one, but it does no harm?
If they were demanding it as a right then sure, I'd see an issue

Jeesh. Cant enjoy the moment anymore. Very sad. Again, if the media is driving you nuts you can turn it off. But you cant take the flag away from the dogs nor the joy the players and supporters are experiencing.
