Don't ever recall him being up on the podium in 2005 or 2012. Happy to be wrong though. Do whatever you want back in the rooms/family day/whatever afterwards, but perhaps let the 22 get their moment first up on the dias (most years even the coaches take a step back at this point).

Pretty obvious now that people will shit on anything. Honestly surprised bandwagon calls haven't started making their way out yet.

Already said it in another thread, but I'll talk about Murphy again. Yes, there's no doubting he did somewhat draw some of the focus onto himself, but that was always going to be the case unless he literally locked himself at home for months. Anyone who has played team sport knows how hard it is to stay away from watching and getting emotionally involved in the games when you're not in the side or you're missing through injuries. The media simply focused on him because of what he has meant to the Bulldogs the past decade or so. Jong and the others would have been amongst the celebrations, but they haven't meant anywhere near as much to the club.

Premierships are won by more than just the 22 men on the field each year.

We just had three straight years of Hawthorn domination, and every other fan pretty much whinged about that. Now we get a positive story of an underdog going all the way, and their captain being able to enjoy the moment with his teammates despite being injured and not a part of the game and people want to shit on it. Unbelievable, but knew it would happen the moment Beveridge called him up.

Maybe some of you should realise that Murphy wouldn't have had a lot to do with it either. His coach and teammates clearly were hugely influential in involving him because he has meant so much to that club, and to them I'd almost be certain. It still would have been awkward for him, but probably would have him cheered him up a fair bit.

Wallis, Jong, Redpath etc aren't the captain of the club for ****s sake.

I know I am shooting bambi here, but honestly I am over hearing and seeing him the last week or so. Yes he is unlucky to have gotten injured but the fact is he did not play on Saturday.

Also anyone who thinks it's just all about the 22 on the field is nuts. Having been to a grand final dinner back in the day, it just isn't the case. Everyone gets a mention, everyone gets a turn with a cup, everyone is included in the celebrations. Footy clubs have always been about far more than the 22 on the field.
