[Special guest qumpire in round 12 was oldmate from Rosehaven]

Surprise nerds, I'm coming at you fast with a midweek free kick expose. Lesssgo!

View attachment 2292592

The ladder-leading Bears are taking advantage of not having a bye yet but cementing their Silver Whistle lead. This week they beat the OOFs 12-9. Second placed East Side dropped a further two points behind thanks to an 18-all draw with the Swamprats, while the Demons remained in fourth with an 18-15 win over the Royals. The big movers in round 12 were the Warriors who beat the Dragons 16-13, their fourth on the trot. And at the bottom of the table the Gumbies upset the Furies 16-15 to rise off the bottom of the ladder at the expense of the Bombers who lost to the Wonders 11-15.

Now for the Spoons...

Another doughnut for Irish BlueBagger saw Scythe return to the top of the Little Whistle standings, his four frfees sees him take a one kick lead. Gold City stalwart Cadsky picked up a Michelle to jump into third place, one ahead of Pamcake1 & two ahead of cats_09 who both received two frees each.

The front two in the Big Spoon in WAbulldog & Phar Ace failed to trouble the qumpires in round 12, however they still retain their quinella. BoozedUP remains in third after conceding one free, but has been joined by ossie_21 who gave up three frees, and the two frees against from ossie's teammate Supercheapgiants sees them rounding out the top 5.

Tight races in all three awards as we steam into the final third of the season. Stay tuned for more of this banality.
Hard to deck anyone when you are on a bye. I've tried before, but any spectator frees don't count for some reason, no matter how "good" the intent is.

[Pictured: free kick results proposing to qooty results. Qooty results said yes.]

It's that time of the week again nerds. Let's see what the qumpires delivered in round 13...

1746147733378.png

Wins. That's what the qumpirers delivered.

In a result that would surprise nobody (apart from Headless who's always surprised), all six matches in round 13 saw the team that won the free kick count win the qooty match. The Hawks beat the Demons 15-9 & by 9 points to arrest a four game winless steak, the Old Boys beat the Furies 20-19 & by 28 points, the Royals beat the Warriors 14-11 & by 4 points, the Wonders Beat the Roys 9-8 & by 24 points, the Gumbies beat the Swamprats 20-10 & by 10 points and the Bombers beat the Dragons 17-12 & by 36 points. The Bears also beat the bye.

This all meant that there was some shuffling in the middle of the table but nothing was moved at either end. Kinda like Sunday dinner at my place as a kid.

The individual stuff now:

1746148298230.png

Irish BlueBagger had taken back the Little Spoon lead from Scythe thanks to receiving four frees instead of two. Cadsky picked up another four to sit in third, a kick behind Scythe and two behind Bags. cats_09 was the big mover, getting six frees to join Cadsky in fourth, with Pamcake1 dropping to fifth after only getting two frees.

1746148327443.png

WAbulldog doughnutted in round 13 but still holds a one kick lead in the Big Spoon. ossie_21 gave away two to jump to second, one kick behind the Bomber and one ahead of both BoozedUP & Phar Ace who conceded one and none respectively. Rounding out the top five here are philreich & Supercheapgiants who are both a further kick back.

Five rounds remaining with four games for each team. Things are getting exciting on all counts. Stick around to see what transpires as we continue this 'exciting' journey together.

"Sorry Alex, not tonight. You're playing Collingwood"

OK nerds, while I wait to have my heart broken by foopy again later tonight I'll get this week's free kick update out of the way.

1746694054983.png

The Bears and the Hawks keep on keeping on, defeating the Roys 17-14 and the Bombers 18-15 respectively to maintain a two game lead atop the ladder. The Old Boys overtook the Demons by beating them 19-13, with the Swamprats in between the two teams even though all three are on the same points, as the Sin Citizens defeated the Gold Citizens 15-14. The other game of the round saw the Warriors bounce back with a 18-17 win over the Gumbies.

1746694354217.png

Scythe & Irish BlueBagger continue their game of leapfrog atop the Little Spoon standings, with the Hawk picking up five frees to overtake the OOF who only got three. Five kicks behind the Corkman are Cadsky and cats_09 who both doughnutted, as well as your host who collected four frees for.

1746694380477.png

It's still close as in the Big Spoon. WAbulldog still has a one kick lead over ossie_21 who has a one kick lead over BoozedUP & philreich who have a one kick lead over boncer34 cats2rise JoeldTrafford Phar Ace Proper Gander & Supercheapgiants

Wish me luck tonight nerds. Or don't, but you should.

Good luck Tonga!

I’m totally rad about being in the running for something but to get to the head of the pack (and I’m way keen) do I need more free kicks for or free kicks against?

I should probably work this out on my own but it’s been a bad few life weeks and I would really appreciate some help.

Otherwise TOTALLY RAD. Free kicks rule!

But if you want to win something you need to give more. In this case giving away free kicks.

…and it’s gone.
There’s plenty to play out tonight, Tonga.

And yeah totally - now I understand the operating instructions I’ll give away heaps of free kicks. It’s not like I’m damaging Buller’s finals hopes

[Pictured: a weary Troy Pannell after being on the lam for doing something shady]

OK nerds time to clear the backlog. Let's go back a couple of rounds...

1747890606233.png

The Bears have pulled a game clear of the Hawks at the top of the Silver Whistle ladder after the Vegans notched a 20-14 win over the Bombers while the East Siders fell 14-24 to the Dragons. A 15-16 loss to the Roys and a round 16 bye means that the Ophidians are now out of the running, while the bye having Swamprats & Demons still have a mathematical chance of taking it out although they have around 20% to also catch up to the Bears.

Elsewhere the Furies upset the Warriors 17-11 and the Wonders defeated the Gumbies 19-13, meaning the race for the wooden spoon is down to the Babylonians and the plasticine people.

Now for the individual awards...

1747891079499.png

Not only did the Hawks collectively choke, so to did Scythe thanks to the doughnut he ate in round 15. This allowed Irish BlueBagger to once again retake the Little Spoon lead despite only getting two frees himself. The chasing pack are closing though, with cats_09 now only four kicks off the pace in third, your host one kick further back in fourth and a first top five placing for Bomber matriarch DemurePrincess who is another kick behind but only six off the lead.

1747891112227.png

Meanwhile in Big Spoon country it's still a tight affair, but there's been some overtaking. BoozedUP & ossie_21 now lead on 24 kicks each after conceding four and three respectively, WAbulldog drops to third but is one kick off the lead, Warrior winger Barrybran picked up a Michelle to jump into fourth place only two kicks from the lead, and his former teammate GWS Goose rounds out the top five a further kick in arrears. How many more kicks will he get in arrears? We'll find out shortly...

1747894235036.png

...and now to the most recent round.

1747894327536.png

The Bears and Hawks won again (12-9 over the Dragons & 17-16 over the Furies respectively), but given the four points & 10% separating the two and both having a bye in the last two rounds, the Las Vegans have pretty much locked in the Silver Whistle for season 39, the first in their history. A win this week will guarantee it. The Demons moved to third with a massive 24-14 win over the Wonders to go with a massive 104 point qooty win, the Warriors beat the Swamprats 19-16, the Roys edged the Royals 20-19 and in the battle of the cellar dwellers the Gumbies beat the Bombers 26-19, consigning the Babylonians to the wooden spoon.

Speaking of Spoons...

1747894839635.png

The Little Spoon contest has gone up about 41 notches! Irish BlueBagger had the bye in round 16 which allowed Scythe to retake the lead again by one kick, but he's not on his Pat Malone. Carryover champion cats_09 received five frees to jump to a share of the lead, while your host also picked up five to join the Dork from Cork in equal third. And in fifth place another kick behind but only two from the lead is Cadsky who got a half dozen frees for (to go with five frees against) in the most officiated individual performance in many a season.

Even though there's only two kicks separating the top five, both Irish BlueBagger & Cadsky have a game in hand so the odds are in their favour of winning their first Little Spoon.

1747894901498.png

Another four frees against for BoozedUP sees the Bomber take a three kick lead into the final two rounds from teammate WAbulldog who gave away half that. ossie_21 & Barrybran both doughnutted to sit in third and fourth respectively, while a group of five including boncer34 GWS Goose jackster83 JoeldTrafford & spudmaster sit together in fifth place.

jackster is the only one of the Big Spoon leaders to have a game in hand, but he's seven kicks off the lead so this contest is still very much up for grabs. Stick around to see how it all plays out.

Hello ladies!

Happy Friday nerds. We've successfully negotiated our way through the penultimate round of the home and away season, and while one free kick trophy has been secured the other two are still very much in the balance. Let's see what transpired shall we?

1748575617344.png

It's official - the Las Vegas Bears are the Silver Whistle winners for season 39 with a round to spare! This was confirmed after they defeated the Swamprats 13-12, while their nearest rivals the Hawks were enduring the last of their byes. The Demons remain in third place after defeating the stone motherless Bombers also by 13 to 12, the Old Boys remain in fourth thanks to a an 18-16 win over the Gold Citizens, the Dragons jump to sixth on the back of the largest win of the season - 24-12 over the Roys and the Furies put away the Wonders to the tune of 22-15 to jump three spots into eighth place.

So that's the secured trophy. Here's the skinny on the ones still in the balance...

1748576241537.png

Four of last round's top five in the Little Spoon had a bye in round 16 which allowed Irish BlueBagger to retain the lead again after picking up four frees for. Previous leaders cats_09 & Scythe are now in joint second, joined by DemurePrincess (who got three frees) and NaturalDisaster (who blagged his way into six free kicks). It's still anyone's race to win coming into the final round, apart from DemurePrincess who's having a bye.

1748576282007.png

There were some Little Spoon contenders who had the bye last week as well, but the BIG story was that the leading pair of BoozedUP & WAbulldog from Baghdad both doughnutted in their last game of the season. Boozy still leads by two kicks, but the late run from Wonderkid Roonescape could overtake the Bomber after conceding a massive six free kicks in round 16 to sit only two off the lead! jackster83 is also a chance from joint fourth place after conceding three frees as is ossie_21 who shares fourth, both though will need to get punchy if they're to take out the Big Spoon.

See you next week when I reveal the final outcome of the Free Kick Count for season 39!

Good evening nerds, it's time for Quan Antonio Sammich to hand out some awards.

First up, let's see how the Free Kick Table finished up for season 39:

1749550411902.png

This was wrapped up in round 17 so it comes as no surprise who the winners were. The Hawks came close, but after winning their first seven free kick counts and receiving the most frees for you could say that they actually choked. The Delons were the next best, coming third despite being stone motherless in the qooty ladder. And the Swamprats came fourth despite receiving the least frees for, however this was displaced by having the second least frees against so still finished net positive.

At the other end of the ladder were the Bombers who claim the wooden spoon despite winning the qooty minor premiership, thus being the main anomalies between qooty results and free kick results along with the Demons. They were bottom for the last half of the season, as this cool squiggly line graph shows:

1749550985305.png

Just above them were the Gumbies who conceded the most frees by some distance. The rest of the teams were mid table beige areas.

But this is all about the winners. The team that gave away by far the fewest frees and had the most free kicks that resulted in qooty victories. So without any ado of any form, I give you the Silver Whistle winners for season 39 - the Las Vegas Bears! Mazel tov tony and co, here's your miniature novelty trophy.

Round Eighteen - The Spoons New

bob's stat division 2.JPG

And now for the Spoons, beginning with the Little'un.

There were three frees separating first place with four people in second leading up to the final round. Two of the chasing pack in cats_09 & Scythe got the required three frees, one in DemurePrincess had the bye so was stranded but there was one who picked up a handy five-fer to take a two kick lead - that being NaturalDisaster. All he needed was for the clubhouse leader to get two frees or fewer to become a Little Spoon winner.

NARRATOR: he did not in fact become a Little Spoon winner.

When the going got tough, the tough sucked up to the qumpires and Irish BlueBagger matched ND's Michelle to retain a three kick lead as the fat lady beatboxed.

Here's the final results:

1749552156646.png

Dragon spiritual leader T2B_ finished in 10th place on 47 frees, one behind Silver Whistle winner MWPP and Demon stalwart tgrs who finished equal 8th. Gold Citizen Cadsky was another kick ahead to finish in 7th place on 49 frees, one behind Bomber matriarch DemurePrincess who ended the season in 6th place.

Then there was a bit of a gap to the top five. cats_09 and Scythe both finished on 53 frees and joint fourth place, with oldmate finishing strongly thanks to another five frees to take third place on 54 kicks. Furies co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-co-captain NaturalDisaster finished up on 55 frees to be the Little Spoon bridesmaid, but your Little Spoon winner for season 39 on 58 frees for is the sun-kissed Dork for Cork. Congrats Irish BlueBagger on the win, here's your miniature novelty trophy!

little spoon irish.png

little spoon irish preso.png

And last but not least... well, a little bit least... is the Big Spoon. This was another one that could have gone a few ways, with a round 17 leader holding a small lead over a chasing pack but had a final round bye to contend with. The two people closest in Roonescape and WAbulldog however caught doughnuts, one also due to a bye and the other due to ineptitude.

Here's where the kicks landed:

1749553047660.png

There were six people that finished in equal 8th place, all conceding 23 frees for the season. They are boncer34 ClarkeM DERRINALPHIL HARPSichord Phar Ace and philreich. One kick ahead of them are dogs105 and jackster83 who finish in equal 6th place. The first of two Bombers in the top five, WAbulldog ended the season on 25 frees against, one behind a trio who share second place - ossie_21 Proper Gander and Roonescape.

But is was the rookie Bomber ruckdog in BoozedUP who takes out the Big Spoon for season 39 with 28 conceded free kicks. Kudos mate, here's your miniature novelty trophy!

big spoon booze.png

1749553515198.png

Congrats to all the winners, and to those who bother the qumpires. I'll be back in the next day or two with the end of season summaries for each team, plus all the other palaver.

Even though we received the second fewest frees against, the fact that Sin City received the fewest frees for should lead to some sort of moral trophy

Goes to show that we're disciplined; however, we also don't get rewarded by the Qumpires either.

Seems a bit hypocritical reading that statement back come to think of it 🤣
