In 2018 two Saudi sisters drowned in the Hudson River New York, there were rumours then that they were murdered due to the way they were retrieved wrapped up in tape but it was found to be deaths of a suicide pact.

Not suicide according to the father.

'The father of two young Saudi women whose bodies were found bound together in New York last October has dismissed a police assessment that they committed suicide and said marks he saw on their faces indicate they were beaten before their deaths.'

'Their mother told detectives the day before the bodies were discovered that the Saudi Embassy in Washington had ordered the family to leave the United States because the daughters had applied for political asylum, the Associated Press reported in October, citing police. An embassy spokeswoman denied that at the time.'

'Saudi news site Sabq published an interview on Monday with the women’s father, who was not named, denying police claims that at some earlier point they had been subjected to physical abuse, and accusing a Virginia investigator of abducting the women and blocking him from retrieving them.

“He told us that he had withdrawn the report and placed the girls in a safe place,” Sabq quoted the father as saying.

“We tried to communicate later with this investigator but he refused to respond. He asked us to go to the court on the grounds that the case had been transferred there, but when we went, we did not find any trace of the case,” the father added.

He said when he viewed his daughters’ bodies at the morgue before taking them back to Saudi Arabia, “we found bruises filling both their faces ... especially the younger one, which confirms they were heavily beaten before they died.”'

In a twist to the unsolved mystery of two Saudi sisters found dead in a Sydney apartment, it can be revealed their family refused permission for photographs of the pair to be released by police.

'police contacted relatives in Saudi Arabia for permission to release images of the women as part of an appeal for public help, but they refused.

However, a coroner investigating the deaths overruled the family’s decision and insisted the photos be released so that as much information as possible could be gained about the dead pair.'

'It can also be revealed the sisters had been given an eviction notice from the Canterbury Rd unit just weeks before they were found dead.

Rental agent Jay Hu said the women had been good tenants since they began the lease two years ago, and provided a bank statement with “ample” savings, but things went awry earlier this year.'

'“They stopped paying rent, so my colleague contacted them … they said the money would be coming soon,” Mr Hu said.
“But it still didn’t come … a few more weeks went by and still not paid.”'

Mr Hu said the tenants were given notice to vacate the property around May, and the agency had no further contact with the pair until police informed them of the deaths.

He said the unit, which was advertised for rent last week, had undergone renovations including new carpet and paint to “clean up” after the grisly deaths.

Arab news outlets reported the sisters fled Saudi Arabia via Hong Kong in 2017 with $5,000 savings, and were actively seeking asylum in Australia.
It has also been reported the pair renounced Islam and changed their names after arriving in their new country.'

'The sisters’ bodies remain in a Sydney morgue while their belongings in the unit were “thrown out”.
“The police took what they needed, and the rest of it we were told to throw out,” Mr Hu said.'

'A man at the centre of an AVO taken out by one of the sisters found dead in a Canterbury unit has spoken of the “fight” which lead them to court.
Asra Adbullah Alsehli, 24, went to Fairfield police in 2019 fearful after an altercation with a male friend who claims he “met her on the street” and struck up a friendship.'

'a man named in court papers against one of the sisters last night told The Daily Telegraph he had a “small fight” with Asra which prompted her to contact police and take out an AVO.

“We had an argument, you know, like friends do...she was afraid so she contacted the police,” the man said.

“Then the three of us went to the police, me, her and Amaal (Asra’s sister) and we told them what happened.”'

'The man said police gave him a court date where the AVO was listed to be heard.

“We went to court, the three of us and I told the judge what happened. Amaal explained it was just an argument and Asra was frightened but there was no problem anymore.”

Court records confirmed the matter was withdrawn and dismissed.

The man, who said he was not romantically involved with Asra, had not been in contact with her or Amaal for about two years, and was “shocked” to hear of their mysterious deaths.

“I have spoken to police, I told them what I know and I am upset like everyone else,” he said.'

Bloody hell this is confusing.
The Yemeni news sites they're citing are conflating two different cases of Saudi sisters seeking asylum.
Its like the whole story has gone back and forth through Google translate a couple times.
Reem and Rawan arrived in Australia in 2019 and they would be 21 and 23 now.
Amaal and Asra arrived in Australia in 2017 and they would have been 23 and 24 if they were still alive.

Another set of sisters who used the names Reem and Rawan were famously detained in Hong Kong in 2018 at the request of Saudi authorities after renouncing Islam and fleeing their family while on holiday with $5000 they had secretly saved.
Contacts of those sisters confirmed to the Herald that they were alive and well in an undisclosed country.'

There's nothing to suggest that's what happened yet, only that the police have called 'likely foul play' but I have no idea how they got there when there's no signs of an intruder or any disturbance. It looks like suicide from the outside but maybe the police know more than they're letting on, which is usually the way it rolls.

In a January 2022 email sent to the site manager, younger sister Amaal asked if building management could check the security cameras as she feared someone had tampered with a recent food delivery order.

"I think the girls were very, very scared. Very afraid of something. And we're not sure whether it was something or someone, they didn't tell us," Mr Baird said.'

'Mr Baird said his first interaction with the women had taken place earlier this year when their car had been "keyed".

"We believed that it was not a personal attack to them because they'd parked their car in an unusual position. And somebody's obviously taken offence to it," Mr Baird said, about the incident.

His second interaction with the women was when he organised for a plumber to visit their apartment.

"When [the plumber] came out of that unit, he said that he was concerned that there was something untoward happening in the apartment. He got a very bad vibe," Mr Baird said.

"He was pretty shaken up. He said, 'I'm never coming back to that apartment again'."

Mr Baird asked the local site manager to contact the police at the time and he understood that the women had subsequently told police they were fine.
Mr Baird has not been contacted by the police for a statement.'

'Another building worker told the ABC that he knew that the women had noticed a man watching their apartment from across the street.

The worker, who is familiar with the building's residents, said he'd also seen an unknown Middle Eastern man inside the building on two occasions in the months leading up to the sisters' death.

The building worker said when he asked the man which apartment he was from, the man gave the women's address.

They lived in Sydney's western suburbs for about eighteen months, while they attended the local TAFE.

Rita was their neighbour.

"[Amaal and Asra] were just really good people. They did nothing harmful," Rita said.
"They moved to this house because it was like closer to their TAFE. And they usually stayed up all night and only slept in the morning."

She said the women worked in construction.

The ABC has confirmed that they applied for an ABN in 2018, and were registered as sole traders.

Rita said the sisters' mother had visited Australia on one occasion.
"Their mum came here once. She didn't like it. Then she went back to her country," Rita said.'

'By 2020, after they'd lived in Smithfield for about 18 months, the sisters decided to move out.
They moved into the Canterbury apartment in November 2021.

At the time of publication, Rita said the police had not interviewed her or her family.'

The two-bedroom Canterbury Rd property was open for inspection yesterday, with no secret of its dark past.

“This property has found two deceased person on 07/06/2022. Crime scene has been established and it is still under police investigation. According to the police, this is not a random crime and will not be a potential risk for the community,” the online advertisement stated.

Property manager Jay Hu told The Daily Telegraph the unit needed new bedroom floors and the walls painted after the crime scene had been cleaned up by police, and the rent increase reflected this. “There was a lot of liquid and smell,” Mr Hu said.

'“Everywhere you look this nearly brand new two-bedroom apartment ensures a life of seamless and luxurious comfort,” the advertisement said. “Newly installed hybrid timber flooring for both bedrooms.”

Mr Hu said the property’s owner, who lives overseas, had started proceedings against the tenants for unpaid rent before they were found dead.'

'An employee at the petrol station across the road said the deaths had “rattled” staff who served the pair “two to three times a week”. “I only ever saw the younger sister, the blonde one ... she was always in a hurry,” she said.'

'Police sources said the results of a toxicology report which could explain how Asra and Amaal died is yet to be received.

“There is high-level testing going on which they do if they’re looking for certain drugs, which isn’t done at the DAL (Division of Analytic Laboratories) in Lidcombe,” they said.
