Bomber midfield query

hird is still our best midfield player by a long way. whenever we need a clearence he just goes in there and gets it. whenever he likes, he just strolles in there and gets the clearences. i would love to know his percentage rate for clearences at stoppages. how many times he gets it while he is there.

as for the last 4 i would say JJ, stanton, watson and???

5th should be mark johnson but unsure where he is at. McVeigh is a back pocket. Campo is never fit and the rest are a raffle. eg: Lovett, winders, dyson etc.

On saying that by seasons end monfries will be in top five so thats who i would have in there.

Last time I checked he played quite abit more in the midfield last year than some of the names mentioned here.

If he somehow manages to bring consistency to his game this year then he's ahead of Stanton.

He has had some problems but has also had a fair bit of gametime and has so far disapointed.

His disposal has actually got worse, but at it's best he is damaging.

This had better be his year, or it may be his last with us.

Would have to put my best 5 midfielders down to players who can get 30+ touches in back to back weeks which at the monent Essendon has a few that might be able to do it but not to many that are proven. Hird, Watson, Stanton, JJ, Campo and Pev would be close to the only players who have done it. Pev's poor kicking would count him out of the top 5

The midfield would have to be far Essendon biggest weakness by far

I agree hird champion the best i've seen. jj has got alot to prove this year. campo was a gun at carlton but has been ordinary at the dons. stanton will be the next misiti for us but as for watson i know he's imporved alot for us but at the end of the day compared to sum of the other midfieldrs around he's nothing short of garbage

When he has it, the opposition don't

Ever notice how many contested, stoppage contests he wins?

Ever consider he also brings other players into the game?

I never said he was a gun, i just told you you lack knowledge in judging talent, due to the fact your called him "nothing short of garbage"

His kicking is ordinary, but can also be passable at times.

There is still a place for slow midfielders, not many per team though, as long as they can win the ball, and hopefully use it also.

Aside from the Hird comment, I can't say I agree with any thing you've said. Jason Johnson does not have much to prove this year. His poor form could be directly associated with the foot injury that wrecked his pre-season. After he went back to the VFL and regained full fitness, he was back to his old self. When Campo has played, he really has been better than ordinary, not that I'm saying he was great. The only problem with Campo is that he hasn't played enough. There is no similarity between Stanton and Misiti other than the number 24 guernsey. Misiti was the in and under pack player, Stanton is far more the ball carrier type. Watson is a good player. He's not yet AA standard but the value he provides in a contest is very high. Sure, he's not the best of kicks and he handballs a lot. With the handball he sets up play and brings more players into the game and with the kick it's not like he always misses his targets, just occasionally. I'm not saying Essendon's midfield is all that good, but don't treat it harsher than it deserves.

Me thinks you know nuffing what you are speaking about if you take away the last 10 years we loose 1999, 2000, 2001. All pretty good seasons, we will finish much higher than 15th this year unless we are crippled by injuries.

You have added nothing to this conversation about who should be in our midfield rotations.

Watson is our hard ball winner and whilst his disposal needs improving his quickness above his shoulders is a reason why he should be persevered with, he is still only really young and still in development stage.
