? The Cats' on-field leadership group has pushed for and will receive a bigger say over trade decisions, list management and day-to-day football decisions, including a revolving position on the match committee;

Just what we need, more destabilising politics.

Players need to concentrate on their game, AND LIKE IT.

Major spending on S & C (Obviously needed)
I'd like to know more of the details. Let's wait and see on what.

Reduction in Bombers work load (at least they did make some change here)
Sure, but in what way will he improve. More attention to strategy/tactics; more passion; better communication; more direct team plan etc

New midfeild coach (absolutely necessary)
Yep!

More responsibility for players (Works for Sydney)
I think you'll find Sydney players have no say in trade issues. Nor do any of there players [including co-captains] sit on the match committee. Certainly they have input, but not nearly to that degree. A definite retrograde step.

Dealt with board challenge threats. There won't be a challenge now that Costa is threatening to stay for 3 more. In fact I am just about praying for one now. Then Costa will stay on longer.
I don't have a problem with Costa staying. But much more important is that Cook does too

Lastly the player should pick the captain. If they think Harley is the best man for the job then so be it.
Players should have input, but the match committee should have the final say.
BTW.Chapman is the best.;)

Harley brings to the table leadership, committment, experience, intelligence and also a good communicator with players as well as the media. He has all the traits necessary to be captain.

I think you will find that Sydney players do have a say in trade issues. At least I have seen it reported that way plenty of times eg: No tools rule.

I don't think it is a backwards step at all. It is perhaps a little progressive for most people.

Chappy, I can't believe you're saying the Harley choice was left field. I've been saying all week, it was an absolute certainty.

Sorry mate, I didn't see you posting it to be honest. I actually think this move can work, I just thought it was left-field because the consensus was the skipper would be Chapman, and Harley is too injury prone.

I think all that says is that take what you read on these boards with a grain of salt. Often what is posted here is so far off the mark but it becomes infectious and it gathers momentum. Harley was a fairly obvious choice for captain but punters on this board got carried away thinking Chapman had it in the bag.

Maybe...do you agree with the Harley choice?

I do. I think he's the most qualified candidate. The only negative against him is his recent run of injuries and by all reports it was to do with one aspect that he had trouble getting over but now he has managed to do it.

All of the others that have been mentioned don't stand out as captaincy material at the moment. Chapman would make a fine captain, but there's no need to push him into the role now when we have Harley there.

I think next time around, we'll have a much clearer idea of who is commanding the position. I just didn't see it this time around.

PS. trust me, from many years reading these boards, 90% of the time it's best just to sit back and laugh at some of the trash that is trotted out as fact.

True, I have no doubt that Harley is the standout choice in that regard.

It's been 43 years, so what's another wasted year right?
Friggin disgraceful football club. Another year of failure and underacheiving ahead.......well for you guys it will be. For me, just another year of knowing that this club will be a rabble on field and most likely off it too. I hope you all enjoy watching 43 years of ingrained culture at its finest next season. I honestly feel for you all expecting anything from this club....hey maybe we'll win the NAB Cup again! Wouldn't that just be splendid!? We can all hold hands in a circle and sing the club song with pride over that! Spare me!

I TOLD YOU SO!!!!
I'll get it out of the way now so i won't have to wait 11 months to say it.

Roos is very good at including players in discussions and listens to feedback. But he and the match committee make the decisions. That is, the players are listened to but have no say in the final analysis.

Interesting results there - I am not at all sure about giving the leadership group among the players more say, but I guess we don't know for sure how much clout that will give them. Probably fair to say it's more than they deserve at the moment.

The football chief position may help if the load on Bomber is too heavy - perhaps he was burnt out by other responsibilities?

Harls as captain is disappointing - he's tough and dependable but hardly inspiring in the way Chappy is, not to mention the injury question marks. We need a leader who can lead ON THE FIELD, not from the stands.

Surprised that Hinkley didn't go also - perhaps the club is showing too much loyalty to a former player. I certainly would hope that the forward line performs much better next year to justify keeping him. Glad Lovell is gone though.

The way I see it, it took one month and one of the most comprehensive club reviews ever to come to the conclusion that poor old bomber is overworked and needs more assistance, hardly earth moving stuff.

One assistant gets the chop, probably coincidence that he was out of contract anyway so won't have to be paid out, Hinkley stays [ guess they're satisfied with our forward structure ] they accept Kings relinquishing the captaincy because of injury problems, and then give it to a bloke who's just as injury prone [ nothing against Tom, reckon he's a good choice "if" he can get out on the park ]

The major problem is, that even taking some of the load of Thompson, I don't see how this is going to help him one iota when it comes to making decisions on match day, this is his most important role, and one which he's unfortunately not very good at, as a tactician he lacks vision and the ability to react quickly to changing circumstances.

Having said this, the decision has been made so we have to make the best of it, the Cats still have my full support and I just hope Thompson can prove me wrong and deliver the goods next year.

I would've thought he was the complete opposite.

I've never seen him to be the inspirational type - he puts in and gets the job done but he doesn't show the same inspirational qualities that a bloke like Moons, Chappy or Junior have.

A bit slow off the mark but worth the wait. I knew you would be impressed.

Whose fault is this to begin with? I think it's just a cop out to be honest. I mean, how long would it take to realise that Bomber is apparently overworked? Surely Bomber himself would go to Cooky or whoever and complain about his workload instead of allowing it to weigh him down.

Just appears to be another excuse for this piss poor season, instead of getting to the real reason behind it.
