Fair enough comment.

Generally I don't believe we are arrogant (not compared to Carlton anyway), but ANY team that wins the flag are going to exude traits of arrogance.

Carlton are arrogant when the are NOT winning flas. Surely no other club is like this. It's a bit difficult to be arrogant unless you have achieved something, which explains the recent Bomber gloating.

So, I make no apologies towards sounding arrogant. To be honest, with my good self, it is probably more pride. I called it arroganc in my previous post, but I feel more "pride" in my team than anything.

P.S. If your mob get Blight, it will be the biggest coaching coup in history. Of all the clubs to go to, I would have though Blight would put the Saints at the bottom. If you get him, it will be a sweet victory for perseverance.

I agree with you, you deserve bragging rights for winning the flag and being the best team all year.

And even I would not put Essendon fans in the same arrogant class as Carlton fans, as much as I hate praising opposition teams and their supporters.

As for Blighty, I have not felt as happy as this since preliminary final night in 1997.
The saints fan forum is a buzz of excitement. Gehrig looks like he has agreed to play for us, obviously no coincidence that this development has come since Blight seems to have agreed. (But not official YET) Lawrence spoke on 3AW saying how excited he was to play for the team he loved as a kid and even dismissed Sheehan when he asked why he wanted to play for a club like St Kilda. We have the first two draft picks (possibly 4 as well) and could get Mal Michael in the pre-season draft

I am looking at next year with renewed optimism.

By the way, are you surprised at how quiet Essendon have been during the period. Obviously you don't need to make many changes at all but it is most unlike Sheedy.

I'm not at all surprised at how quiet Essendon has been during this trading period.

Two years ago, we didn't make one trade, while last year we were also very quiet.

Sheedy likes to draft players and develop them. Over the last 15 years, all our great players have come through the system - not from other clubs. We were just about the only club to not steal a player from Fitzroy.

If you look at our premiership team, all of them came through the draft, or some official process. None of them were stolen from other clubs. Barnes, for example was a reject who we gave another chance. Barnard and Wellam were aquired through a trade in which we lost Salmon.

We havn't picked up any "big name" players who were coming out of contract and went to the highest bidder. All of your players were developed after picking them up through good recruiting.

History says thats the way to go too. West Coast basically won premierships through good recruiting in the early 1990's.

Essendon has been very wary about picking up players from other clubs. Namely, because there is usually some reason why these plaers have left. Even if they are champion players leaving for money, or homesickness, this often puts a question mark over their character and loyalty.

So, I'd expect the Bombers to draft 3 or 4 18 year olds and develp them, and gradualy introduce them into the system. Like Heffernan, Caracella, Blumfield, Johnson&Johnson etc etc.

So, in a nutshell.....no I'm not surprised at all at how quiet we've been.
