Movie Bond (No Time to Die)

Probably a 6/10 for me - liked more than I didn't, but I think it really suffered a bit having to reconcile so much from Spectre, which (if not for QoS' out and out awfulness) ranks as the most disappointing of the Craig era for mine.

There's just something overbearingly dour about this recent run - like they've spent too much time listening to the weird internet Dalton fans horrified at the prospect that Bond can be in any way permitted to be fun.

Overall I'd rate them Casino Royale -> Skyfall -> No Time To Die -> Spectre -> Quantum. Two good, one meh, two duds - so compares pretty favourably to Brosnan overall.

Just saw it today and where is the fun? Producers completely ruined the return of SPECTRE and made a mockery of the Blofeld character...Craig was excellent as usual, but who comes up with these ideas? Opportunities were sorely missed with these past two films.

I’ve never seen any Bond movies but my husband wants to see this one. Is my lack of knowledge gonna be a problem or is it just explosions and t***ies?
There's no t***ies, and far fewer explosions than the norm for a Bond film.

It's the 5th, and final, instalment in a 5-movie story arc which began with Casino Royale. There will definitely be bits you won't understand if you haven't seen the previous instalments. Then again, large parts of the movie are completely incoherent anyway, regardless of viewers' history, so maybe you won't miss that much relative to everyone else.

Lots of explosions and no t***ies, not much fun at all really. Bond producers appear to have forgotten about that? Then there is the criminally under used actress Ana de Armas who steals the entire movie in the first hour! Craig is great with little dialogue to do his character any justice, Seydoux looks good, but she has little charisma and her screen presence is wanting. Ralph Fiennes just looks grumpy all the time...I don't think James Bond is a 21st century character?

Watched it this afternoon, the first time since The Spy Who Loved Me in 1977 I haven't gone to a opening day screening.

It had a very different feel than all other Bond films and that can be attributed to one little character. Didn't speak much, but she was cute.

The villians weren't particularly memorable, but the idea of a nano weapon was very interesting. Also, I don't think there were as many action sequences as previous Bond's, which isn't a bad thing, and they didn't seem to drag on, which is always a good thing.

I don't think any of the actors did a bad job, except for the lady who played Nomi, I hope she doesn't become the new "Bond" as she was terrible. On the other hand I would love to see the Paloma (Ana de Armas) character again, perhaps she could be the new Felix Leiter. :D

I thought it was about 20-25 minutes too long but overall I rank it about halfway between the best and worst Bond films.

Just got home from seeing it and...WOW!

I had successfully avoided spoilers and any of the recent trailers so a few of the plot twists were quite something. I liked it more than most on here and I think it's Craig's second best and he joins Dalton as the only multi-film actor with a good send off. Even though it was longer it didn't feel as bloated as the Mendes two.

Also, how nice to have a gun barrel again [and I like the twist they put on it].

Casino Royale > No Time to Die > QoS > Spectre >>>>> Skyfall.

On the Paloma thing, I've always wanted to see Goodnight make a comeback (and more in keeping with Fleming than her Golden Gun depiction). I think a two-hander between a female 007 ala Lashana and a Goodnight offsider could work with the right charisma and tone.

My worst fear is that they plan to eventually bring back the franchise with the kid Mathilde as the new Bond or something saga cringe like that, that's just leaning further into the continuity of the Craig era which we'd all like to put to bed. Similarly, I hope they don't attempt to milk the brand and universe it with Blofeld, M, Q, etc. standalones. Always have 007 at the center, James or no, otherwise just make something else.

Yeah was a bit less action-y than usual with no standout scene for mine but still enjoyed it, although Cuba and the Spectre party was pretty good. Knew it was 2 hrs 45 mins going in but it didn't seem to drag at all for me which was surprising, coz its not a great movie by any stretch. +1 for Ana de Armas. Also didn't mind the events at the end as some seem to. Criminal waste of Christoph Waltz and Rami Malek though.

Comfortably better than QoS but probably comes in 2nd last among the Craig movies.

But can anyone explain Safin's motivation? Had no idea what he was actually trying to accomplish. When Q hacked the drive they saw some simulation showing massive casualties spreading out from Europe - who was he planning to kill? Everyone? Only a specific DNA subset? Why?

I wish Idris Elba was a few years younger, he would have made an awesome Bond.
Can't think of any real obvious candidate in the right age group for a franchise, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender could be interesting but again you could probably only get 2 films out of either.

Yep, need to go with a relative unknown at this point I reckon.

Casino Royale
Skyfall
<Daylight>
No Time to Die
Spectre
<Daylight>
<More Daylight>
<Daylight is reflected off Pluto and bounces back to Earth>
Quantum of Solace

I seriously can't understand how watching anything, other than (maybe) a rotting pile of garbage heaving with maggots, could make anyone appreciate Quantum on any level.

Casino Royale (probably sits around 5/6 amongst my all-time favourite Bond films)
Skyfall (10-12)
No Time To Die (12-14)
Spectre (18-20)
Quantum Of Solace (22-24)

Saw this tonight. Wasn't expecting much and was very pleasantly surprised - thought it was very good.

In terms of DC's Bond movies, it wasn't in the same league as Casino Royale or Skyfall which are absolute favourites of mine, but there's no shame in that.

Significantly better than Spectre and not even comparable to QoS which was just dog s**t.

I was pleasantly surprised how well the new female agent character turned out. I was convinced that she wasn’t even going to flinch with the neck implant after Bond winced at his, for example. Didn’t happen, gladly. They never used the character to pander or push a particular message, which was refreshing.

I thought she was dull, had no charisma and was genuinely annoyed anytime she was on the screen personally.

Really hoping they don’t continue down the route with her as the lead 007.

Saw it tonight, not a huge kind fan but options were lacking. Plot was a bit confusion at time and the motivation of Freddie mecury wasn’t that clear. It was probably 30 min too long.

what was the significance of the acid water on the island that the scientist fell into
That scene ,and Safin's base, is based on the Garden of Death from the Live and Let Die novel which included a dangerous lake/body of water which was poisonous [may have been sulphur].

Agree with others about how weak Rami’s villain was. Can’t decide if Safin or Greene from QoS was the weaker villain.

Also; ESB has been a staple to the franchise having tormented James in numerous films comprising Connery, Moore, Lazenby and Craig. For him to die so tamely in a cell due to a chemical weapon is not the death befitting such an integral character in the franchise. Very underwhelming.

Homage to previous Bond movies is ok but I think the Blofeld scene was based on the scene from Austin Powers : Goldmember.

It beats him being unceremoniously dropped down a smoke stack.
