In the Laidley era there seemed to be bewildering inconsistencies in the selection policies. Statistics or performances notwithstanding there was a clear ranking system where some people were impervious to the axe while others were given one game and dropped. He admitted himself that he left some players in the seniors for too long even when they were in a chronic form slump.

What will Bon do?

Last year didn't they bring in a multi tier leadership group?

With the 4 main leaders and a secondary group Power, Hale, Jones, Wells, Harding, Firrito that were responsible for a group of 6 other players each.

Passing of the Buck with leadership, spreading the load whatever the positives and negatives it may have helped keep Power in the side ;0

I liked when Thomas got number 12 over Urq, Goldy.

JYD's love of smaller people or circus tall was entertaining while it lasted. He seemed to take a liking to the strange looking or limited players like Power, Rawlings, Thomas, and resented the normal types or players he thought life came to easy for, Hamish, Wells, Swallow, Harro etc.

Faves given many chances is a strange poll option considering no sane coach would have faves that are plodders or gun VFL types.

Quoting himself. Excellent.

It's hard not to let personal feelings towards individuals get in the way of your decisions, but he will certainly be fairer than Laidley was (for example, I very much doubt we will see another Daniel Harris).

I doubt he'll have a "policy" bedded down for many weeks, as he sorts through the players he has at his disposal and discovers how best they can be utilised.

I reckon he'll give everyone a go who deserves a chance, based initially on preseason training form and work ethic, as well as NAB Cup form, and based on his own views on player's strengths, weaknesses and how he rates them as prospects going forward.

It's gonna be one hell of an exciting year!

Bomber Thompson saying on the news the Cats will be playing/rotating a fair few youngsters.

Fits in with needing to stay focused on the big dance for them.

Last year they had a point to prove but an early exit for them this time around and some exposure to youth could revitalise them.

Beating the favourite could start our season with a bang and do worlds of good for membership and buzz.

NAB

B: McMahon Thompson Firrito

HB: Urquhart Hansen Harding

C: Anthony Ziebell Ross

HF: Warren Hale Edwards

F: Campbell Petrie Wright

R: McIntosh, Swallow, Harvey

Int: Tarrant, Greenwood, Garlett, Adams, Bastinac,

Lower/McMillian/Kennedy/Goldy for the last spot

Sub: Cunnington, Grima

They could be frazzled after Cokegate so catching them off guard with attack might just work.

Resting Pratt, Rawlings, Jones to give some youth/speed a chance.
