This is classic Erin Riley - "I'm not writing this article because Hawthorn beat us in the Grand Final". Um, yes you are Erin.
Make no mistake, a large portion of Richmond supporters are feral and like Collingwood fans give the appearance they attend football games to barrack against the opposition side and it's just a bonus if their side wins. But make no mistake, they are just as feral when sides travel to Kardinia Park. I recall being told I hope I get cancer for turning up in a Hawks polo to watch Shaun Burgoyne's debut VFL match down there. I stuck around for the main game (as they stung me $25 to get in) and the umps were coping it even when the Cats were up by loads in the last. The Port fans were getting an absolute pasting too!
For me, I take a simplistic approach to booing or any behavior. If you don't like it, don't do it yourself. But don't participate in it when your side is up and about or have the safety in numbers, then cry about it when outnumbered and or flogged. You would not be hearing a word about this if like after the 2014 GF, the complainers team had saluted.
And like Adam Goodes (don't mention the war), telling fans not to do something, will only encourage the naughty little school children to do it twice as much and turn it into a sport. Which is exactly what happened with Goodes. Element of idiots, element of racists, element of defiance!
