Without starting another shit fight - it is quite plausible it was Adam Goodes that was disliked not the colour of his skin as evidenced by the lack of sustained booing of other indigenous players across the league and before you call me racist, I'm indigenous
People booed Goodes because they thought he was a flog. And he clearly was a flog, because he spoke up about indigenous issues: how dare he!

There's a very fine line between racism and stupidity sometimes. Maybe some of the people who booed Adam Goodes were just ignorant deadshits. Fair few were clearly racist though.

I'm saying it wasn't fair that at our home game 80,000 classless 'supporters' booed our players as they ran out onto the ground.
Oh for goodness sake - it's been going on for years. I'm sure at a Skilled Stadium they don't cheer the opposition when they run onto the ground:rolleyes:. When playing at an opposition's home ground, I'm sure most footballers expect a bit of booing from the opposition supporters. It's just a fact of life and is what it is!

The booing coincided with the Collingwood incident and persisted until he left the game, not retired. It was downright disgraceful.

Other indigenous players have been booed. Winmar and Thomas immediately come to mind. Farmer copped it a bit.
Lots of players get booed regardless of colour - Sam Mitchell is a good example, hated by many

Anyway, like I said, it's not the thread and while some booing was undeniably racist it wasn't the only contributing factor irrespective of what the media tried to have us believe

My god, grow up.... If the game happened to be down at Simonds Stadium can guarantee the Geelong support would have booed the house down like they do every game at Simonds...

I have an issue with this... I don't think booing has ever been "racially driven" and it was just a crock made up by the media.

Yep....agree that people have a right to do whatever as long as they aren't breaking any laws.

Couldn't make Friday night due to being overseas but with the benefit of hindsight and neutral reports I am probably glad that the family (not I) wasn't there.

Have been to the G for many finals before and it's always felts like a relatively neutral venue. It sounds like Friday night was turned into a home game advantage for the tigers which they are proud of.....and rightly so! I suspect the grand final will maintain this neutral feel but others??? This change probably initiates a discussion that the higher placed team should have a greater say in the venue!

My biggest concern is that the above comments will be slammed when it really is a valid discussion topic!

The Adam Goodes booing was quite clearly racist based and always from a racist minority. It's disrespectful, and borders on disgraceful, to have fans boo injured players.
You've got it all wrong - it was his sooky la-la carrying on that got up most people's noses and consequently the booing started. One thing most AFL supporters can't stand is a sook. He asked for it in my opinion.

Funnily enough a similar to example to the Geelong v Tigers game at the G last friday was the 2013 grand final (was at both games)... Fremantle fans were so loud it was incredible, very ominous feeling. They drowned out the Hawthorn fans easily that day. No issue with it... If fans can have an influence more power to them!

Sport's like theatre, you cheer the good guy, boo the evil one. The lines are blurred a bit because of team loyalty. Seems like there are more than a few offended Geelong supporters because their team wasn't respected......... what kind of reception do you expect when the ratio was something like 80-85% Richmond supporters and 15% a combination of Geelong fans and neutral spectators. You're not ging to hold hands and dance along a hill that's for sure.

Totally picturing every unhappy Geelong fan as the Catman gif!

Richmond fans are just petulant children who got lucky the AFL cares about money and their darling little melbourne clubs. They would have been smashed if it was played in Geelong.
You can believe that Pal, I've got the deeds to a beaut bridge in Sydney, let us know if you want to take it of my hands.

Smashed, I don't think so. Closer game? Sure.

If I were a Geelong fan however the whole Simonds thing would concern me. Say the AFL did come around (or the KP capacity increased) and their home finals were played there, regardless of that, the big dance is always on the lovely turf that is the G. Would that be ideal?

They needed to widen the ground during the redevelopment.

Completely agree, the whole "racially driven booing" was some big media devised crock of shit....
People booed Goodes like we boo every other player for how he went about his football, sooking and being your atypical prima donna.
He was also megaly outspoken and seemed to feel the media was right that the crowds were racist that got them even more riled up for being accused of such.

Friday was definitely unprecedented

Only had to look around even before the teams were out and you'd notice that it was just a sea of yellow and black. It certainly is a valid topic for discussion, but im not sure there are any quick solutions to the issue for Geelong.

MCG home teams get a home-ground advantage against just the non-Victorian teams. Geelong get home-ground advantage against everyone in the competition. Unique to any other code

But it wasn't. Geelong got pantsed. Couldn't handle the heat.
It's all well and good to play well at Simonds Stadium, but at the end of the day, if you can't perform on the MCG why bother?

This screams flat track bullies just like the label West Coast got during the season.
Also, why is it all of a sudden an issue to play at the MCG, all those finals Geelong won were, majority, at the MCG.

trying to cross to the promise land eh ... never is an easy proposition even when you have luck and good fortune on your side.

cafe culture or lack of it will drive you nuts or either panting for the real thing, but if you want the Sydney bridge then that is all
you will get... all points north will never get you everywhere...

ooh Just realised that you wanted to flog it... well good luck with that eh.. only a personal range of
'friends' will 'handle' it..

good luck with that...

Geelong got found out as the flat track bullies they always have been. Richmond put far too much pressure on them, the crowd had nothing to do with that. They would have pants Geelong no matter where it was held

This is such a stupid argument. As if you don't want as much advantage to win every game as possible. As you may have realised, getting to the grand final is a pretty tough thing to do, no one loses a final on the MCG and goes "oh well, because we lost this game, we definitely 100% will lose all subsequent games at this venue"
It's never been an issue prior to this year, but all of a sudden it's a farce and Geelong are getting reemed.
Explain that to me. Due to them lifting the capacity of the stadium to a massive 34k? May as well hold the Grand Final there.
