I think that Sav Rocca will have a really big season this year. He is a quality player with a lot to prove. He is only 27 and playing with Carey he wont get the best backman week after week.

Who are the other gun recruits going to be this year?

Matthew Dent is going to tear up the VFL seconds next year. All you passengers in the Box Hill reserves, look out - Matty is on the way to challenge strongly yet unsuccessfully for your spot.

He's blonde, he's quick
He's got a massive ... err ... kick
Danny Chook! Danny Chook!

Biggest recruiting news from last year
Was the Bell deal

Bell has been given the vice captaincy and is currently carving them up in the intra club matchs. His role has not only been as a match winner for the Dockers, but also as a mentor for the likes of Haselby and Walker.

He will strengthen already top class mid field and probally create arguably the strongest midfeild in the league. With the likes of Haselby,Flethcer,Cook,Bell,Walker and Black.

First real test will come this weekend against Melbourne at Subi oval.He will as in the past most likey get the number one tagger, leaving Haselby and Cook to roam free.

Potential prospects this year include

Brownlow medal chance
All Australian selection
Leading fremantle to there first final series

C'mon. To get Bell you've traded James Clement, who had problems with Damien Dumb and is a certain starter at half back for the Pies. And Brodie Holland who has the potential to be as good as Bell and will be filling Paul William's role with us.

So in the interest of a quick fix in the middle, you've thrown away a seriously underated utility and a 20 year old potential gun. Great move.

...oh yeah, no one will beat my namesake for the Brownlow this year!

With the risk of upsetting Joffa (yet again) i think ive heard this Figster for the Bronlow shit for about 10 years now. How about he just proves to be a good captain in a good side first, then worry about the Brownlow later. Cheers

Remember we traded him away for Ben Harrison!

Catman, I really hope you missed watching all the Eagles games last year. White looked out of sorts and didn't seem interested or motivated to play AFL football. He was nowhere near the standard and player he was before he did his knee a few seasons back. But maybe a change of club will do him wonders, best of luck for him.

I'm quite excited with Troy Wilson and Mark Merenda as our pickups. Wilson should debut in the Ansett Cup, has a good lead and kick and could be a suprise packet. As for Merenda, if he brings back any of his brilliance he had with Richmond, he will be a healthy addition to the club and will fit in nicely in the forward pocket alongside Scotty and Phil Matera.

I bet Collingwood were thrilled when they got Carl Steinfort! Well Mick Malthouse was, he was concerned when Steinfort played against his side because he felt Steinfort was a danger man, Ha ha ha.
Steinfort is crap, you've got a dud there maggies!

Well, a change of club often does wonders for many a player and I hope Mitch is the same. I've got a feeling he didn't get along well with Judge, could that be right?

James Clement was a second rate backman that played in Westar were he belonged. But im sure he will be sucessfull in the collingwood backline along with ....

I dont doubt Brodie had the makings of a star. But he had alleged personal problems that was not needed in the fremantle club.Along with the fact he was competing players of allot higher calibre with far more potential like Haselby,Walker and Black.

I have no doubt Holland will do well at the Pies and impress along with there other top quality mid Fielders like Buckley and err um.

Bell is a ready made star that still has his best years to come.

If Nathan Buckley cannot win a Brownlow because he is at a poorly performed club what chance will Peter Bell have?
Absolutely no bloody chance!!!!!!!

As for the best pick up in trading, I reckon it will be a toss up between Williams at the Swans and Murphy at the Cats

Speaking of poorly performed clubs/Potential bottom place getters this year.
How are ports stars eeer i mean lack of going?

Rejects from other clubs are notoriously poor recruits. Clubs are better off putting their faith in a youngster. Having said that, both hamill and Gehrig at the Saints are quality players who their original clubs would like to have kept. So, I expect these two (espeically under malclom Blight) to shine.

As for S.Rocca........ what a mystery. He could do anthing. But I wouldn't expect any "in between"

Err...Collingwood backmen: Scott Burns, Tarkyn Lockyer, Shane Wakelin, Ben Kinnear, Rhyce Shaw and the most underrated backman going around Simon Prestigiacomo.

Err...Collingwood mid-fielders: Nathan Buckley, Alan Didak (as good as Haselby & without the back problems), Shane O'Bree, Nick Davis, Damien Adkins, Ben Johnson and Chad Rintoul.

Our problems over the past three years have primarily been our lack of height in both defence and attack. Defence we have addressed over the past year. With Anthony Rocca in great form, a super-fit (and much bigger!) Chris Tarrant, aggressive Jarrod Molloy and with the magic of Leon Davis up forward I am pretty confident that we have a very strong forward set up. Hell we can even send the talentless Mr Fraser up forward!

Freo has Ye Olde Modra and "I'll show my potential soon" Waterhouse.

Collingwood are in a better position than most people think and it will be reflected on this year's ladder!

Dan i agree with you about rejects from other clubs, weve had our share of duds, Barry Young springs to mind pretty quickly, but ironically your club has had some pretty good recent success, how about Paul Barnard and Johnny Barnes? The jewels are there and the better clubs seem to find them. Cheers

Catman- spot on (unfortunately). Damn that man (Kenny). Mitch's also had injury problems since his knee recon, jarring it a couple of seasons in a row.

I wish him well- hes a top player who deserves to reach his potential again. Good luck with him....

Catman, who DOES get on with Ken Judge? Apart from Peter German

Dan - So duds can turn good with a change of club, should I put some money on Michael Prior for the Brownlow this year?

Like I said Clement will do very well in your backline. He will be an absolute star.

Mid Field wise collingwoods when they loose Buckley is the weakest in the league. In fact even with Buckley included they are still down the bottom of the pile.
Dont compare Didak to Haselby whatever you do.He hasnt played a single game yet, when he averages 26 possessions a game in his first year then talk to me.
Even if we are talking before there afl careers,Hasebly still out ranks him. With his best and Fairest at the East Fremantle football club in his first year.

Your forward line is still weak and will remain weak.
I think I can safely say the Dockers are stronger all over the field compared to that of collingwood.
Forward wise you dont have a hope in hell.
I would hardly call 53 goals a poor effort. He is also a target (You know a player the midfield can kick to).And the funny thing is there is still room for enormouse improvement. So watch out.
This along with Modra who still is a match winner and a constant threat.Isnt a bad combination.
But hold on a sec, im forgetting somthing here.Thats right, Pavlich, he too is another danger.Strong marking option, and then there is Koops, who I believe tore you apart last game at your home ground. To hand you guys the Apriel Premireship.

Last place is on the books, and if Mick plays his cards right you might score yourself some more concession picks

Here's hoping

Wow Sabre, don't so hurtful with your cutting comments 'ol man, I'm cut to the quick, lol

Anyway, this question will be answered later this year, you have your opinion, I have mine, so lets just wait to find out.

I have put my hard earned on Port to make the top 8 this year, have you put your hard earned on Freo?
