How does everyone see the Boomers team for Beijing?

My team would be:

C: Bogut, Schenscher

PF: Jawai, Anderson, Ogilvy

SF: Mackinnon, Nielson

SG: Newley, Ingles

PG: Bruce, Mills, Bruton

Others considered:

Anstey
Kickert
Worthington
Maric
Saville
Ryan
Barlow
Helliwell

How would this team go?

Anstey should be in that side instead of being just considered. That side would go bad just cause other nations are so much better

ok, so matty p, how much NBL do you watch because im slightly concerned if you want bruce ahead of bruton, and jawai ahead of anstey

My team would be:

Bigs: Bogut, Andersen, Anstey, and I cant decide between Jawai and Schenscher, unless Ogilvy shows some real thoughness in camp, he wont get selected.

Swingmen: Mackinnon, Nielsen, Worthington

Guards: Newley, Ingles, Black (realistically i think Jason Smith will be our starting SG with Ingles missing out) Bruton, Mills,

Pretty much agree with AA.

C: Bogut, Anstey
PF: Andersen, Neilsen, Jawai
SF: Mackinnon, Wortho
SG: Newley, Ingles
PG: Bruton, Black, Mills

With David Barlow and Andrew Ogilvy the next cabs off the rank. (Realistically, Jason Smith and Luke Kendell)

This is how I would like to see the side selected. Both for now and the future

C: Andrew Bogut / Nathan Jawai / Andrew Ogilvy

PF: Chris Anstey / Mathew Neilson / Alex Loughton

SF: Sam McKinnon / Mark Worthington

SG: Brad Newley / Joe Ingles.

PG: CJ Burton / Patrick Mills / Arron Bruce

But this is how I think Brian Goorjian will select the side

PF: Neilson / Halliwell /

SF: McKinnon / Worthington

SG: Saville / Smith / Kendall

PG: Burton / Mills / Mee

Schenscher is next to useless. His agent knows this and is trying to bluff teams into signing him, he failed in Europe and his knee injury is just some sort of NBA disguise.

He will not sign with an NBL side because his number will be under 10 points per game and 6 or 7 rebounds per game. He may excel at blocked shots but that about it.

Luke Schenscher is a dud and only reason he made the NBA is because he is 7’ tall

I went with Jawai and Andrew Ogilvy purely for the future because if boy Gorg doesn’t pick a side for the future and fails his arse will be gone.

That is a very solid side. Can't see it doing well against the stronger sides in the competition but still quite decent. I like the Bogut/Jawai combination, maybe ol' Andrew can pull some strings and get a few scouts over here to take a look at Nathan, I could see him doing fairly well in the NBA

Maybe Andrew should try and get the buck to hide him away so they have a better shot at him, the kid is going to be a blue chipper and go in the first 10 in next year draft.

Bump – with the Melbourne Tiger beating the cash strapped Sydney Kings for the title Two weeks ago it is now time to concentrate in the 2008 Olympics Games.

2008 Boomers squad: Aron Baynes, Aaron Bruce, Adam Gibson, Aleks Maric, Alex Loughton, Andrew Bogut, Andrew Ogilvy, Brad Newley, Chris Anstey, CJ Bruton, Damien Ryan, Darnell Mee, David Andersen, David Barlow, Glen Saville, Ian Crosswhite, Jacob Holmes, James Harvey, Jason Smith, Joe Ingles, Luke Kendall, Luke Schenscher, Mark Worthington, Matthew Knight, Matthew Nielsen, Nathan Jawai, Nathan Crosswell, Pat Mills, Peter Crawford, Russell Hinder, Sam Mackinnon, Shawn Redhage, Wade Helliwell.

RED = no chance at selection

C: Andrew Bogut / Andrew Ogilvy / Nathan Jawai
PF: Chris Anstey / David Andersen / Matthew Nielsen
SF: Mark Worthington / Sam Mackinnon / Alex Loughton
SG: Brad Newley / David Barlow / Joe Ingles
PG: CJ Bruton / Past Mills / Aaron Bruce* (maybe Luke Kendall)

I don’t believe we have a snowflakes chance in hell of getting close to winning any sort of medal at the Olympic Games this year so I have gone for a relatively young side. We have to build for the future and hope Ogilvy, Bogut and Mill come back to play once they have strong NBA careers.

I actually think we have a pretty decent chance at a medal, most teams don't know our skill set and we will easily be one of the youngest teams there, and most athletic too, none of our bigs are slow, all can shoot the 3 and won't camp in the lane.

McKinnon looks as though he may be injured, so I'd probably put Saville in there as I think he's too experienced at that level to miss out, and not to mention a quality player. Also the Olympics only takes 12 players, so Id remove Loughton, Bruce and Sammy Mack from that line-up.

I honestly dont envy Goorj's job, the team looks incredibely strong this year one of our best ever, not to mention you should add Redhage to that list as well, the dude had a killer season.

I'm pretty much sticking with my boys.

If MacKinnon and Black are out of contention, then I'd probably go with Redhage and Kendell. Not a fan of Aaron Bruce.

Redhage if he qualifies.
Most important things in international Basketball seem to be Team Defence and being able to consistent knock down shots from 15+ feet.

Not as balanced as you'd like, however at least we've got some versatility on the front line. The two big issues we have is a severe lack of experience (and let's face it, talent) in the backcourt, and potential difficulties being able to spread the floor with shooters (name more than 2 strong 3 point shooters???).

Unfortunately, wether you'd like to go for an experienced side, or an young up and coming side (both arguements have good and bad points) I still honestly cant see us matchin up to the top 6 teams in the Olympics. However, on the positive side, the future is staring to look pretty strong as far as international aussie ball is concerned.

I like the above list though would make three changes

C: Bogut; Ogilvey;
PF: Anstey; Neilsen (can play 3 and 4 spot); Andersen (versatility and defence - seriously under-rated player)
SF: ; McKinnon; Redhage
SG: Newly; Saville (athletic, good defender, decent shooter and versitile can play 2 or 3);
PG: Bruton; Mills; Black (versatility can hit the three and good distributor of the ball)

I would also consider playing Joe Ingles or Peter Crawford if McKinnon is injured.
