I like the above list though would make three changes

C: Bogut; Ogilvey;
PF: Anstey; Neilsen (can play 3 and 4 spot); Andersen (versatility and defence - seriously under-rated player)
SF: ; McKinnon; Redhage
SG: Newly; Saville (athletic, good defender, decent shooter and versitile can play 2 or 3);
PG: Bruton; Mills; Black (versatility can hit the three and good distributor of the ball)

I would also consider playing Joe Ingles or Peter Crawford if McKinnon is injured.
So, you're replacing Bruce with a Bruce-like player? ;)

Bogut/Anstey/(one of)Jawai, Maric, Ogilvy
Neilson/Anderson
Mackinnon/Worthington
Newley/Smith
Bruton/Mills/Bruce

I guess I just like Black. Have been a big fan since he played with Wildcats. Also he has a bit more international experiance playing for the Boomers and him and Bruton have a good chemistry going between them...

I was also trying to work out if I should include Darnell Mee or Redhage into that squad and have gone for Redhage due to his scoring ability as I think we may struggle a bit in that department - especially of the bench. Having said that Mee would also be a great option.

Black is a much better shooter than Bruce, however Id say Bruce is a better ball handler. Black wont be in any of the squads regardless, he's pulled out which is a shame.

Boomers lose Mackinnon, Smith

http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,23609393-23769,00.html

April 28, 2008

Australia will be without two stars at the Beijing Olympics, with Sam Mackinnon and Jason Smith ruled out because of illness and injury.

Mackinnon was last week diagnosed with blood clots on both lungs after he was admitted to hospital because of chest pains.

The blood clots were diagnosed before they became potentially life-threatening and Mackinnon, 31, is now resting at home in Brisbane, having been told by doctors not to play any contact sport for at least three months.

Smith, 33, will also miss the Olympics in August because of a rotator cuff injury in his right shoulder, which requires surgery.

He faces a stint of up to eight months of rehabilitation, which means he will not play for his new NBL club, the South Dragons, until late December at the earliest.

The setbacks are a major disappointment for Boomers coach Brian Goorjian, who must now re-consider who to appoint as Australia's captain this Olympic campaign.

But Goorjian was encouraged by a three-week tour of Europe and the United States, where he met up with and watched Australia's overseas contingent in action in their respective seasons.

Goorjian said the overseas-based players were all keen to represent Australia in the Olympics and were all in good shape physically.

Australia have been drawn in a tough pool for the Olympic tournament, and will meet defending Olympic champions Argentina, European powerhouses Russia and Lithuania, Asian champion Iran and another yet-to-be-confirmed qualifier.

The United States and China are in the other pool, however there is the potential to play Australia in the cross-over stage of the tournament should the Boomers progress to the quarter-finals.
Smith and MacKinnon international days are now over 33 and 31 respectively. The new captain has to be Andrew Bogut
