dear anstey,

youre a massive unit. see those lines steming from the baseline to a parallel line a couple of metres away? thats the paint. big men are supposed to go in there/ you've got the skills, get in there and dunk those chippies.

Calm down lads, we weren't that bad. Sure we settled for the three too often and Anstey in particular needed to be more aggressive and go inside, but it wasn't that bad of a performance. I was most disappointed with the poor rebounding effort.

Barlow further proving what we already know, that he is a gun and should be a lock for the Olympics. The most impressive Aussie out there tonight as he was hot right from the outset.

CJ Bruton was very good as always and he’ll probably be the most important part of the team come August. He really was great tonight. His partner in crime Mills was also very good and his speed and quick hands were causing Iran nightmares.

Ogilvy struggled for mine as he was pretty easily pushed off by his opponent. Grabbed a few rebounds but struggled to hold position on both ends of the floor. Does appear to be a very solid passer though which was pleasing. His time will come but it’s not now.

I was very under whelmed by Neilson and I hope he can improve and I’m sure he can. He’s too good a player to produce more of what we saw tonight.

Ingles still worries me and I’m not sure he’s ready. Was disappointed we didn’t see more from Newley, and when he was on he was a bit passive.

A few others notes/observations…

Harvey’s defence still not good enough. Ryan barely saw the court, Redhage looked dangerous, showed his unbelievably athleticism and was good from 3 point land but he missed a lot of shots he should have sank. Worthington was ordinary and Anstey just okay. Passed well but that was about it.

Agree with your review Drummond.

Neilson was looking like Teen Wolf ! lol

How huge was that centre for Iran? Massive unit. And to think there is a 7" 5' player inactive player to play in the next game. Damn!

I was actually rather excited watching that team, so much youth out there.

Ogilvy/Mills/Ingles/Newley/Barlow, these guys will form our team for the next 10 years. I think we actually look pretty sharp and will only get better as the series goes on, that big bloke from Iran looked a rather decent player, surely he can get a gig in Europe if some of our horrible stiffs (Helliwell, Kingma, etc) can get gigs.

Sorry but I was not impressed with last night performance at all, if we play like that against one of the top 7 or 8 sides in the world (Argentina*, Spain, Serbia, Lithuania*, Greece, Italy and France) we will lose by 40 plus. And I have not even worried about the yanks. Iran are ranked 33rd in the world – terrible performance.

• In our Olympic group.

David Barlow as a guard still worries me with his ball handling but he is a lock for the side, his decision making at the point (is crap) and should never be given that spot but his ball handling at the 2 spot is still a major worry.

Newly is a better option but he was out of control last night at the 2 spot and against quality opposition this will come back and bite us on our arse.
Hopefully the guards have more playing time so they can develop a better understanding between one another. Add Bogut, Anderson and Anstey or Nelson with CJ and Newley or Barlow and we can start to match the European sides.

Time for a few players to be cut – Hinder, Mee, Ogilvy, Seville, Harvey and good as Redhage was, i cannot see room for him in the side.

Add Bogut and Andersen into the existing line-up and I have no problem with our performance last night.

Mee and Ryan were cut today, Saville/Hinder/Ogilvy will all be cut.
Id like to know how Hinder made the squad to begin with. Must have some nasty pictures of Goorj and the rest of the selectors.

I agree watching the first game we didn't play too bad, but it reminded me of when we were trying to make a state squad as youth's. Everyone trains hard at training camp and you have a few scratch matches to impress the selectors. I think this game the coaching was pretty lackluster and most of the guys on the brink of team selection were just trying to impress with their on court abilities rather than sticking to a plan and doing the team things.

I think this year we've probably have the most talented squad we'e had in history,Just a matter of putting it all together.

I like the discussion about the shane heal days when he had a crack at the NBA and got into a fight with Barkley at the olympics. They were the good ol days!

That was a much better effort last night. We cut down on the turn over’s and increased the defensive pressure to allow us to run some offensive transition.

Not judging it on last night game but I expect Glen Seville to make the side for his experience.

Anyone watching the Boomers NZ game on atm?

Who's that commentating?

Sort of sounds like Ed Wyatt from SEN? He's going nuts, was taking a piss, and some bloke hit a three, I thought he hit the game winner from how much the bloke was screaming!
