BOOO-ing Goodes

I don't even think it's that. I consider the main aspect of the booing a reaction to people being told that they shouldn't make noises at a certain player, and rightly telling the hypocritical media to get stuffed. There is a huge disconnect with the media narrative of Adam Goodes, and how the average footy fan feels about him.

This is the last I'll say about this topic, because it's not really one that deserves oxygen. That will only- again- make things worse.

Razor Ray should have done his own war dance going into the tunnels at half time.

I personally don't like the booing, but I'm not even going to bother arguing about. What I'm saying is that it diminishes the reputation of our club and our supporters in the eyes of the players, coaches, commentators and people outside the game. I think that much is pretty clear. If people choose to boo, they should do so with that knowledge.

Nothing more than making a mountain out of a molehill.

I'll Boo at the hope of putting 'Player X' off his game. What we saw yesterday was exactly that.
I'll tell you what though, if Goodes somehow wraps his Career at Domain Stadium, I will applaud him off the ground.

Kind of like C.Judd.
Sadly we never got the chance to applaud him off.

Though all this backlash is soft as butter.
Gil can blow me.

depends.

if they were booing him cos the colour of his skin or racially vilifying him them **** that.

if its for his poor demeanour on and off the field with his diving and whinging then go ahead.

all in all sick of it tbh and every week hes acting like a victim

many of our players were booed over the years as well as others as well namingly judd and libba

If racist comments were made - fair enough - not on.

However, booing a player is not inherently racist (no matter who they are).

I don't see the big deal here, we boo plenty of players (Watson, Judd, Vickery etc). If people want to boo it's their choice (eg the POMS taunt Michell Johnson all the time and the commentators just laugh it off)

I can't see us not being able to recruit anyone, aboriginal or martian.

You really think that Jetta wants to come play for the Eagles now? He seemed pretty offended yesterday.

(and yes, I'm aware that a lot of people don't really rate him; that's besides the point)

I get that. If wirra was still playing, he would be giving any fan a reason to boo him.

The basic fan knows that the booing is because mainly his on field antics. Tripping, playing for frees etc.

I can't see us not being able to recruit anyone, aboriginal or martian.
Disagree.

I think people boo him because other people boo him and now it has become an act of defiance. It's not a big number who do it - maybe 5-10% of the crowd, but it has an impact. The issue is that no one actually knows why they boo him, and some racist rednecks join in and cloud the issue. I asked a bloke yesterday at the game why he was booing and he said "because he's a knob" and I said "in what way" and he said "he just is". Riveting stuff. There are plenty of bigger knobs in the game who don't get booed every week.

My main issue with the booing is that it becomes the story, and it's just going to get worse.

And if Jetta thinks a wardance to the crowd is going to make the issue go away he's got rocks in his head.

I have to tell you, I'm not a fan of the way Goodes goes about it as a player - but for what it's worth, I wouldn't have been booing yesterday.

Even if you personally don't boo for racial reasons, you're throwing your lot in with a group of people who are doing it on the basis of race. Booing is not the sort of communications technique that allows for nuance - so you're lending your voice to a pretty ugly group of people - even if they're a small minority. Bugger that for a joke.

We're always going to be subject to particular scrutiny for crowd behaviour, because we have an undiluted fanbase (unlike the Melbourne clubs or the empty stadiums in Brisbane/Sydney). We don't do our club, or each other, any service by going down this road. Let it go.

Got no issue with a boo.

Like Lecca last week at the Pies game with every set shot for goal he had. But yesterdays booing of every touch was way over the top and not on in my book.

Makes us look like fools.

Sorry I cant agree with this entirely. I would like to use my first post to first point out that a 13 year old girl should not be publicly villified? like that. She is a minor and should be dealt with with respect. Speak to her parents or guardians. Not even police have the right to question a minor without parents or guardians.
To point her out for the nation to see is disgraceful from Goodes. If he wanted to make an issue about it speak to her parents after the game and have a private discussion.
You don't fix racism by villifying a 13 year old and parading her in the media, if anything it incites it more. Forgiveness and mutual understanding is what fixes racism. And this needs to come from everyone, not one side of the argument.
Yeah because every supporter has a neon light hovering over there heads that state there age :drunk:

Hasn't goodes been booed all year? Why such a huge deal now?

Don't really care if people choose to boo, not something I'd do, but people want to boo let them boo.

It's a big deal now because another player decided to do a war dance celebration then whinge after the game about it.

They will always be some racists booing Goodes we need to acknowledge there are flogs like that.

They are very much in the minority though, I sit next to full blooded aboriginal's that where booing Goodes yesterday.

Goodes has also been booed by us WCE fans since 2006, so this is not new for us.

Still don't believe that Goodes has done that many bad things on the field to warrant the boo's he gets. Yesterday was the largest boo I think I have ever heard a single player get at subi (with perhaps exception to Josh Carr at a home derby)

To those that boo Goodes because of his on field behvaiour thats fine. But just be aware that you are also in the company of people who are booing him primarily because of his race.

If the level of booing was meant to reflect ONLY on field behaviour, there are plenty more players to be more vocal about than Goodes.

At the end of the day. That girl did the wrong thing and was called out for it in the heat of the moment. There was a media circus, an apology and we haven't heard much of it since, except from people happy to boo him.

I don't want to overly precious but its embarrassing and it paints all of us with the same brush. The morons who pointlessly boo for the sake of it are pathetic.

Disagree.

Certainly an act of Defiance now covers a lot of people.
He is a knob is a reasonable reason. i think he is a knob. The theatre of AFL has many facets, this is just the latest in a long list of things fans do.
As for other knobs in teh game, Cotchin is becoming a real villian too. Boomer and Crowley come to mind too.
