Not sure where to put this, but interesting little snippet in the history of our club.
Feel free to move or whatever.
Was in the car listening to SEN and Malcolm Blight was on. Was brilliant and honest as usual.
Got on to the Gaz boo thing. Said how he didn't like how someone can get booed for his beliefs and he doesn't like it.
Fair enough. Then...went on to say after being booed by the KP crowd at 3qr time in 94 he decided that night he was going to leave and asked Ayers if he was interested in coaching the next year.
Was interesting to me anyway. Booing caused Ayers!

Thick skin, ol' Blighty!

I sort of get it. He'd already made 2 GF's and actually made another one that year. So it was a bit harsh. We actually won the game too.
Also he said it wasn't just cause he just didn't like the boos, it made him think that whatever he was doing wasn't really working, probably best for both parties if he left.

I enjoyed the ride Malcolm gave us in those years, but two things:
1. He didn't have enough control of the egos in the team.
2. His leaving was purely selfish.
He was a good coach, and he proved that. But he left the job unfinished because he gave up.

Yeah fair enough. It probably was the right decision anyway.
Not many admit it now, but a lot of supporters wanted a coach to fix your No1 and also to make us more defensive.

Which Ayres tried to do ironically enough.
Ayres probably wasn't equipped enough to do it properly, and I don't think the club really wanted it to happen either.
I still stand by the opinion that the back office made things almost impossible for the coaching staff to do what they should have been doing, winning Premierships.

Is booing a form of bullying?

There would be a percentage of footballers like in any profession that may not be mentally strong enough to cope with it.

Wow. This is a huge story told twenty five years too late.

Always wondered why Blight quit.

Was at that game and it was pretty big booing. Although i thought the booing was for the umps not the coach.

Ablett was sensational in the last qtr winning us the game.

H aha. Would be hilarious if Blighty left because of a case of mistaken identity.

Yeah I was at the game too .. and because of where I sit.. we dont always get the same vibe as the Brownlow etc.
Id have said the booing had something to do with a level of frustraition with another wasted era... after 93 and then looking at 94 going down the shute.
I suppose some vented. I do feel like the Geelong Crowd cant win...we are told we are too quiet , too passive , too scones and tea... and then when some let their frustraition be known ..instead of showing resilience and understanding of a strong leader , MB mentally packed up the bat and ball and said that it Im out of here. Im not sure it makes Blighty sound that great to be honest. The way he expressed it... it makes him sound very self looking.

At the game the crowd had just watched Stk 7.5 to Gee 3 pts in q3. ..should he thought they cheer him on to the ground? Have no noise at all?Im mean there were 23600 odd at the game.. I suspect that a few thousand on the wing was all that was needed for that noise.. Id have thought he should have had a better understanding on Geelong by then .. but all the years later he still is talking about credits in the bank that he though he was due..

Malcolm Blight’s 1994 Geelong side made it all the way to the Grand Final, but the Hall of Fame Legend says not even that could have kept him at the club after fans turned on him during a mid-season game against St Kilda.
As debate rages over the booing of Gary Ablett Jr at the MCG on Easter Monday, the former Geelong coach revealed his mind was made up at three-quarter time of a Round 12, 1994, clash with St Kilda.

The Cats had just come off a shock loss to lowly Brisbane Bears the round before and were staring down the barrel after the third-last Saints had booted seven goals to none in the third term.

And fans were ruthless as Blight, with new assistant Gary Ayres, came down from the coaches’ box onto Kardinia Park.

“I don’t think I’ve ever said this before,” Blight said on SEN’s Whateley.

“I can honestly say now, after that night … I said ‘Gary, that, to me, says today, that I won’t be here after this year’.

“I made my decision, virtually that night, to say, ‘after all you’d brought to the club’, which had been great to me and actually I’d been good to them, I thought, ‘well, if that’s what it’s got to I don’t have to put up with this’.”

“That booing is extreme and I thought ‘this is a waste of time’.”

Not even a third Grand Final appearance — another loss to West Coast — could convince Blight to change his mind.

“We ended up making the Grand Final and I dutifully stood aside and the reason being was I thought, ‘well, if that’s what the Geelong people think about what I’m doing, I may as well not be here’,” he said.

Who knows.
When it was Goodes it was racism
When it was Watson it was drugs
When it was Selwood it was normal.
Wow. We footy fans really are a socially conscious lot. Except for the racism bit.

Seriously if that was the case then he should have stepped aside then and there. Stinks a bit like 2010 when Bomber had enough mid season.

If that's true then it really shows Malcolm out to be a seriously weak individual.
That third quarter deserved to be booed, Cats were disinterested and lazy and deserved a spray, if he couldn't handle that then geez really have to question his character and resolve.

And look where it god the weak fraud! Probably cried into his back to back premiership cups.

Now they say the crowd including the Geelong supporters were booing Ablett.
He may decide the same thing.

A person it better of saying nothing
