I'd suggest they certainly will be given that chance. Harangody is just about certain to sign.

Pretty happy with that signing. Gives us a C that can run the floor, take shots from 15-18ft and rebound and block pretty well..

Hi smithy,

Since your post clearly indicates you've managed to construct a time machine that has transported you back to 2004, would you be kind enough to chuck a hungy on Google for me?

Your pal,

Yeah we are the Dallas of this season - the 04 All-Stars.

Having said that, there wasn't a whole lot else available to us, and guys have been overpaid all off-season long. This is a signing we wouldn't have made if Perk was healthy.

People write JO'N off to quickly. Also people who rate a players performance under one system as being the blueprint for their game in another system are short sighted.

He's finally in a system where he not going to be required to be option 1,2 or even 3.

If he's getting 13 and 7 and 1.5-2 blocks a game for us those will be very decent numbers.

Added to that he's only 31. If he can have a decent off-season and get his body right there's no reason he can't have a productive few years at Boston.

We like to have Rondo run an up tempo fast break system, JO'N fits that system better than the slower Perkins as far as talls go.

So on the + side we get:

decent rebounder/blocker
better offensive option than Perkins
more mobility up the floor

on the -

injury history isnt great
will take time to fit into new system
has been somewhat inconsitent in the last few years.

On the whole its a win for Boston because it fills a big void left by Perkin's injury and given the quality of the rest of the FA at that position it's a steal at 5m a year for 2 years.

A kid named Matt Janning is also one to watch out for.

Has played well enough in the summer league to get an invite to training camp.

Local kid from Northeastern University, the same university Reggie Lewis came from.

So that would be a nice touch if he came good and gained a spot on the roster.

Again, you're describing pre-2008 JO'N. His rebounding the last 3 seasons has been really poor, and he hasn't run the floor once in that 3 years (on 3 different teams). Granted, Perkins doesn't run the floor either, so it's a 0-0 draw on that front.

Compared to some of the ridiculous long-term deals being given out the MLE over 2 years isn't so terrible, but I think you'll be disappointed if you're expecting anything other than a poor man's Tony Battie at this point.

You're basing him on his play in teams where he's had very little decent help around him.

Look at Miami's roster last season. What quality did he have beside him inside?

Put him next to KG and Pierce and he he won't be as exposed as he was in Miami or Toronto.

He'll also be playing a far superior system than he has for the last few years.

If he avg 13ppg 7rpg and 1.5bpg he'll have done his job.

He'll be a far better fit than Sheed was and we went pretty deep into the season with him.

He had Bosh in Toronto, but in any case, rebounding usually goes up when you're playing with scrubs, not down. See Perkins' rebounding before and after KG.

The problem isn't team-mates or system, it's that his body is shot.

Don't agree at all. 'Sheed has O'Neal covered in every single aspect of the game, except caring about the regular season.

In many ways, I wish Rasheed would come back for one more season, as even a half arsed Sheed is better than anyone else out there that we can get, O'Neal included. The problem with that is, we really need him to perform/care early on in the season, and as we saw last season, that's not likely.

Looks like TA's going to Memphis, there's gotta be pressure on the front office to bring in quality wing help now.

I don't mind this, with Bradley and Rondo, we can't be pops Heros for the next 5 years! We need to find some young'uns to keep us up!
