Carey came out and stated it last night and many more have stated we are even worse throughout the year. Just where does this mentality arise?

- Our in and unders are head and shoulders the best in the competition.
- I rate our half forward flankers, Jones and Grant in the top 3 pairs of the competition.
- Our ruck combination is top 3.
- Our outside runners, Harvey and Wells are a top 3 pair.
- Our medium sized defenders, Pratt, Firrito, Archer and Smith are as good as any in the comp.
- Petrie is as good a tall utility as is going around.

Sure we need a Thommo back and a good full back, but not much else.

What is this "poor list" mentality based upon?

Even Simmo and Laids have called our list a bit light on in the media this year, and I think both of them were referring mainly to our depth, and the fact that the guys not in the top 22 haven't got a lot of footy under their belts.

Our top 22 guys, you could not say are bottom 6, especially now that you can see how good a lot of guys like Drew, Pratty, Spud, Jesse, H and the like are.

Ignorance, attempting to justify pre-season predictions or basic stupidity. One of those three.

Ignorance - They just don't watch us play enough.

Justification of pre-season guesswork - They are embarrassed by their predictions, but a nice little "out" for them is to say that our players a shit, so they weren't wrong, we've just lucked/scrapped/arsed our way to 4th.

Stupidity - Just good old fashioned dumbarse stupidity.

One area of concern in the past is that our last couple of players have looked well below as actual capable, quality footballers.

With Sansbury in blistering form, Gibbo back and Spud likely to replace Green - the only real weak link that we have is Brown - and even his form in the past couple of weeks has been good.

With the VFL form of Lower and Djars, this would be by far the hardest week for selection of the year. usually I have got a couple of outs that I am certain would improve us, not this week. It is tough to think about how you can reward the awesome Lower performance, and one of the two guys that were hugely respsonible for a 100 point turnaround in a VFL elimination final will miss.

Dean will be having 5 more sleepless nights.

It is a very good thing.

Some of those guys you had running around with the Devils were very, very ordinary.

You mean the young draftees we had playing there who were expected to be the team leaders and the big bodies of the side? Those kids didn't get an ounce of VFL listed support from Tassie, which Tas themselves have admitted to, so it's very unfair to have a crack at OUR kids hung out to dry each week in their team.

T'toes

Just on Tassie, how is Leigh Adams?
In 13 VFL games he was listed in te 6 best Tassie players 8 times.

5 times BOG for Tassie
1 times 2nd best
1 time 4th best
1 time 6th best

Taking into account the inaccuracy of these best player reports (and the overall shitness of Tassie) that is not bad for a rookie player on debut against men.

I am sorry, but that is just not true.

Unfortunately in terms of talent, I would think that the Hawks and Saints have a better list. It is just a matter of getting the MOST out of the talent that you have, which we have done.

Our list is much better than the Saints. There top 10 would be better than our top 10 but after that we have them covered. Their depth is laughable. So if we are talking lists rather than top 10 or top 18, we have them covered comfortably.

As for Hawthorn, they would be seen as having more potential, but judge the lists right now and we have them covered easily as well.

Top 6.

I actually could not care less what the so called experts think. They can heap the criticism on as much as they like and guess what I rather suspect the boys will enjoy proving them wrong all that much more.

The proof is in the pudding and right now on results for the year in the H & A season ours is the fourth best list.

Irrespective of what happens from here on this year, most experts won't rate us next year, but hey who cares, results are all that matter.

Go Roos

I wouldnt worry about what Carey says lads. The bloke is a peanut.

Nothing wrong with your list at all. As a couple of you have said, your depth might struggle if you have some injuries to key players, but without injuries you as good as any.

Looking forward to a good game this weekend. I must say I am a little worried about covering your talls, given Egan is out.

Good luck

Go Catters!!!!

We are light on for key position player depth, doesn't help when the club keeps de-listing all our young KPPs and keeps recruiting flankers.

We could lose all of our flankers and we would probably find reasonable replacements. Thommo goes down and we have nothing.

We really need to clean out some guys that are never going to make it due to being injury prone and recruit a bag of young KPPs save for an extra classy midfielder.

If you were an outsider who didnt follow north and only knew the first 22 players carey id be spot on.

He mentioned in terms of depth and i feel maybe between 8th-10th being better than the saints in terms of depth.

But the key to our success is that we are executing our gameplan, going for the hardball and running out games. depth is 1 thing but ur best 22 executing the gameplan is another.

Whilst I don't believe that our list is in the bottom 6, it would have been interesting to see how the team would have travelled if we had experienced a number of injuries to key players.

To be honest we have been pretty lucky on the injury front this season (apart from Thommo) and we have been able to keep players like Hale, Jones, Firrito etc on the park despite carrying obvious injuries that may well require treatment post season.

Paul Turk has to be congratulated on the way he has prepared our players this year from a fitness perspective.

I think the greatest improvement this year has been our fringe players. Nearly all that have been given a go have taken giant steps forward. Surely that alters the perception of the depth of our list from the start of the year to the end. The best aspect of this is they are all young, players of the future.

I am sorry, but that is just not true.

Name a better in and under brigade than Harris, Simpson and Swallow? You can throw Rawlings and Harvey in there also.

When Lower and Adams come in no-one will get near us.:thumbsd:
