We don't need to 'bottom out' as in a multi year rebuild.

We need a new coach and a new gameplan.

We've been cruelled by injuries.

Put Hansen, Boomer, Jesse Smith, Wells and Liam Anthony into the side that'll run out on Friday and it looks very good.

Obviously those injuries are going to make this season and uphill battle.

So, as many have said, we know play the kids - even more - and we try a variety of ATTACKING gameplans.

We know Hale can gun it at FF.

Hard to gun it when Captain Bringdown's gameplan makes delivery impossible.

If we at least try this season and cop a few beltings, well, we'll hand out a few.

And if the end result is a high draft pick in the last uncompromised draft, so be it.

Then next season we pitch to the members the new coach, the exciting new gameplan and the new draft pick sit alongside Ziebell, Hansen et al.

Hale IMO is a slight chance to be a good player, the next few months will tell. I would trade him to Gold Coast for draft picks unless he improves.

NMFC bottomed out last Saturday night, 7 goals against the worst side in the league was a disgrace. We are what we are and at the moment it is a bottom 4 side.

Absolute garbage.

Our football club prides itself on its competitiveness and other clubs know when they come up against us there in for one hell of a fight.

We've had one poor game this season, last week. I'm not excusing it but its true.

Our loss v the WBD was an excellent performance and we were desperately unlucky. And another good solid performance v a much better Hawthorn side.

It's not the end of the world.

If it comes to the stage where we can't make it then see what talent your list has. But giving up now is pathetic.

Randy Watson has something to say about what we should do for the rest of the year.

Personally, I think I'd prefer to hear (and of course, see) Sir Mix-A-Lot's take on bottoming out......

IMO playing the younger guys is great but playing them in a team that can't win a game just isn't good for there confidence or football education. These players need to know what winning is about, going out there to attack for the purposes of winning.

Right now the way i see it our young guys aren't learning anything other then how to lose.

I definitely don't want to see us bottoming out.

So we got close to geelong once last year... woopdie friggen do, the other time we were never gonna win.... they were in 3rd gear.. we have taken a step back from last year which tells me that Laids has to go.
Look at our pathetic scores this year and you will see that something is really wrong. No more bullshit, if we dont make the finals this year the place needs to be turned upside down.

Tough call..........if you look back through posts on a heap of threads the themes are pretty consistent

1. Play more kids
2. Move on the try hards ie Power
3. Play a more attacking brand of footy
4. Get rid of Laidley because he doesnt do 1, 2 and 3 above

Other clubs seem to maintain/grow their memberships when there is some sort of long term strategy...ie hawks..even the Dees this year...I actually think if we were to as a club communicate that we will work to a 3-5 year plan of getting kids into the team, get them into a position and persist with them there and not die wondering with our brand of football that the members would come.......

Because at the minute we are all over the place....

Disagree about the just one poor game.

I have been to all the home games this year. We were pathetic against both Hawthorn and Essendon.

To lose by 10 goals against Hawthorn when they were missing lewis, sewell, campbell and also a couple of their players (ellis + 1) got injured during the game, does not equate to a solid performance in my opinion.

We were also lucky that Essendon was simply worst than us on the day -u do realise they nearly won the game in the last qtr? they had the momentum and also nearly the lead with lloydy preparing to kick his 900th. fortunately for us they broke the 19 player rule which turned into a kick on goal for us. they were also much more entertaining to watch when they did kick goals... using speed to their advantage and attacking the corridor.
we continued with our chip chip rubbish on the wings.

I don't know what it looks like on the tv, but gee, you just have to watch our games live to see how bad we're playing at the moment.

Spot on .

We were pathetic against Hawthorn , i have heard some people saying that our clearances hardball gets and inside 50's were up that game and we just came up against a better team , that is the biggest load of crap you can hear , we were a disgrace that day . Against the Bombers it got even worse and we were lucky to escape with a win . Then last weeks game showed us all how badly we are really going at the moment , beaten by one of the most pathetic teams in recent history , lets face it Richmond are a very very ordinary team and we got pumped .

You make a point about the difference between watching on TV and watching at the game , if we continue to serve up footy like this , there will be very few watching at the game and the current style is doing a lot more damage to our cause than you would first believe !

The point about tv is a valid one imo. We have gotten away without attracting much scrutiny or criticism so far this year, mainly because so few people care about us as a football team, but if we play on friday night against Collingwood like we have been doing we're going to get a media storm about our negative gameplan and falling memberships and unnattractive football and general shitness.
For lots of footy fans this will be the first time they've actually seen us play this year, so they won't be prepared for how bad we've become.

Hawthorn youngsters went how many years without winning? and now they are premiers.

I haven't had a problem with selection at all this year. I wouldn't play Power, but I understand why he is there. Banging on about one spot in the 22 is a waste of time.

The only thing I would like to see is the side place a huge emphasis on taking risks from here on in. Apart from the Grand Final, we are the only side who got close to Geelong last year and we looked ****ing outstanding doing it. I would threaten to drop any bloke who doesn't look to take risks, play on and create something positive more often than not.

I think Freo lost to Geelong by 1 point early in the season and I guess Collingwood didn't get close, they absolutely obliterated them, but your point still stands.

When we've had nothing to lose I've seen us play our best footy. Perhaps there's something in that!

From memory they had there clean out at the end on 2004. From then on Hawthorn only had one season (2005) where they didnt win many games, from 2006 on they just improved each season until they won the flag last season.

But its not about Hawthorn, it's about us!
