One person has been stabbed to death, two have been injured, and another man has been shot by police in terrifying scenes on Melbourne’s Bourke Street on Friday. Witnesses said they heard a loud explosion and saw a car bust into flames outside Target on Bourke Street, between Swanston and Russell Streets, about 4.20pm.

Superintendent David Clayton told reporters at a media conference that police were called to reports of a car fire and were “confronted by a man brandishing a knife and threatening them”.

So that's 3 of these in the city in the last year or so, that I can remember, anyway.

In the supermarket just before this happened and Gargasoulas's head, from the last Bourke Street rampage is all over the front page of the Herald Sun they're .... everywhere. He's in court atm.

I don't think this is a coincidence.

Who knows. The bombing and attacking of police and civilians with knives is straight from the Islamist playbook, so there's all sorts of inspiration.

Police have just called it as a terrorist attack. His family is known to ASIO and federal intelligence on terror related matters.

Nearly everyone in Melbourne would know his face, so many people have sat down and had coffee or a meal in there over the years. The sadness is overwhelming. Just senseless destruction.

Just had 2 or 3 meetings there a while back so don’t know the place well, but the man in the cravat is recognisable.

First grandchild was born last week. Shocking.

Let enough riff raff in and this crap will happen, it's not all pink fluffy unicorns dancing on rainbows now is it policy makers? We need stronger vetting and reduced immigration. The Vietnamese, Chinese, Philippine, Italian, English, Scottish, Russian, can come here an live peacefully but it's somehow beyond this animal.

I think the police are a tad annoyed with trolley man.

Donations continue to pour in for the Bourke Street "trolley man" despite the police wanting to question him over a series of burglaries.

Michael Rogers, who has been sleeping rough for 18 years, picked up the nickname after he attempted to fight off terrorist Hassan Khalif Shire Ali with a shopping cart during last Friday's rampage.

But his heroic act has now been overshadowed after the police announced yesterday that he is wanted in connection with break-ins in Melbourne's CBD and St Kilda areas.
