  • Round 1 will align with the second round of the AFL (March 25)
  • 18 matches, and 4 byes (again)
  • Grand Final to be played on September 24
  • Introduction of the wild card round, which will basically expand finals qualification from 8 teams to 10 teams.

Has anyone ever explained why the need for four byes? Is a shortage of umpires?
My only explanation would be that they want to even out the fixture so runs between byes are even instead of a club having a 22-week run and another having a two-week run into finals. They also need a bye due to the AFL mid-season bye and there being an odd number of teams participating.

You are far more forgiving than I!

Full list of changes so far ahead of pre-season returning. James Parsons not listed as an out due to him still being around the club but that ACL injury will obviously hamper his ability to play in 2023. He'll also be an assistant coach at Park Orchards which is very cool.

Box Hill will travel to Sydney to open their season

A quick breakdown of the Box Hill Hawks 2023 VFL Fixture

  • 3 interstate trips.
  • An easter Monday curtain raiser.
  • A home match at Wonthaggi means one less at Box Hill City Oval.
  • 3 AFL curtain raisers and 5 VFLW double-ups.
  • They won't play Carlton and Werribee.

Also here is an article from Brendan Rhodes if you are interested in how it ranks up against other teams.

VFL R11 & R12 clash directly with Hawthorn games.

In R12 at Box Hill we play Brisbane's Reserves for the first time since 1992. Unfortunately Hawthorn are playing Brisbane at the same time at the MCG.

I've combined the AFL/VFL fixtures. There are number of opportunities in the To Be Confirmed [TBC] dates for the BHH to play curtain raisers.

Possibly, I'm not sure. He only stands 177cm. Darcy Tucker is a great pick up as a ruckman who Collingwood were close to taking in the draft.
