Boxing Day Test 2017

Because some draws are uglier than others. Plenty of draws feature multiple sessions of competitive and absorbing cricket - this wasn't one of them. And people are upset because this has become a trend in matches down here, draws or otherwise.

It's not an indictment on Victorians either so I don't know there's so much defensiveness, the blame lies solely with CA

I'm not defensive as a Victorian, the pitch was not a good one, no getting away from that. Agree there are good draws and bad draws, this was the latter.

Says the same on the CA website, ABC radio commentary also said there was a declaration, but it was merely to expedite the winding up of the match.

I haven't read the entire discussion, but there was indeed a declaration made. As you said, it was purely to expedite the end of match.

Yup. It meant they could finished up 10 minutes earlier that the 1 hour time effectively (although I think it was based on overs remaining in the end, but it ended up around the same - 16.4 overs to go, 15 of them in the last hour, so with the loss of 2 for the innings changeover, 14.4 overs, which was less than the hour required).

No, there are official scorers appointed to each game, and they are the ONLY people responsible for the score. TV and radio stations have their own scorers but they're not official. I got annoyed on a radio broadcast once when their scorer said the scoreboard was wrong, and they suggested he should ring the scoreboard and let them know. The only call the scoreboard will accept is from the officials, not from radio stations.

True and that's fair enough but I suppose it may make them look into it.

haha, good point,we are in the caffeine generation, everything has to be action, action, action.

The G test harked back to cricket of the old days when Tavare would take ten years to score a run.

Because of big bash ,we want everything to move at a rapid pace.
Fantastic to see The Greatest Ground In the World as you called it serve up such a wonderful surface. Truly a shining light for all of Australia to follow

Lehmann remembers the Lords test match. Thats why he requested that every wicket in this series be like that..
Makes Smith invincible and completely blunts our bowling. The only time we looked effective was under the lights of Adelaide ,which is why im still stunned Root bowled first after winning the toss. A decision as horrific as Hussain bowling first in Brisbane.

Id like to think our management arent complete clowns and know we have to have green tops at every venue in the next series and maybe some night time games...
to complete maximise our strengths and expose the AUS team to the moving ball .

Your management have ruled out day night tests and I doubt Lehmann has had any say about pitch preparation

The only answer to drop ins is to not have them but in our environment that isn't going to happen....unless you have seperate cricket grounds/stadiums....also not gunna happen

That's one advantage England has, they have specialist cricket grounds, all the major cricket grounds here are also used for AFL and other sports.

At least this should be the straw RE: the Melbourne wicket. It's been s**t for a while, but this was beyond dire. Might just have been the most pointless ashes test of all time, and the paying public deserve better.

I don't think the drop in nature is the problem. No reason they can't keep extra grass on, or add a little bit of moisture.

No, at the end of the match, the umpires check to see if both scorers agree, and if they do, the umpires sign off as the correct score. Official scores are negotiated by the officials (umpires and scorers) and nobody else comes into it.

That was the problem with this Test pitch. There was too much grass coverage meaning the pitch was always going to hold together. When the rains came, it ended any chance of the pitch deteriorating.
It was all dead spongy grass. No reason it had to be that way. Hardly any live grass.
