M Jackson got KO'd in the first round by mighty Mal Meninga after the bout Jacko quipped that "now there are two people who can beat me up with the other being my wife" All in all a dismal night for the AFL with the NRL winning the night four of the fights to one

Jacko vs Mal Meninga was a big mis-match. How old is Jacko now. He looks about 50. And Mal was still coaching (and hence fit) only a couple of years ago.

I only glimpsed Rice v Gillmiester in add breaks from the footy, but it looked sad, sad television from Nine.
Nine is loosing the plot.

I saw a few bits and pieces, and was content in the effort made by all concerned for a worthy cause.
Nine and its commentators played it up for what it was, and the participants looked as if they had at least trained a bit, so all in all well done to all concerned.

BTW, I'd hate to meet up to Meninga in the ring, the guy looked damn powerful.

I'm not 100% sure, but there was only 1 years age diff between Jacko and Mal, and I think Jacko may have been the younger at 41?

All in all it simply showcased what us poor footy (ie AFL not R League) fans up here in QLD already knew. The majority of the fights were won by RL players, not on skill but on sheer 'boofness'. Thugs punching away, no skill to it.

Congrats to Matty Kennedy, the only AFL winner. And Richard Champion and Dean Rice went close.

Funny thing was that the style of the fights was very similar to the style of the respective games. Often in Rugby League, the game is won in the first half, the winning team comes out hard and anhilates the other team. In AFL, it is often the team that performs best in the 2nd half (especially the end of the 3rd, beginning of the 4th qtrs) that wins. The fights followed a similar pattern, with the Kennedy, Rice and Champion bouts having the RL player come out hard at the beginning, but the AFL guys clawing back in the latter part. Just didn't get to claw back enough except for Max.

Was it Rice? I think, who said "haha if this fight had been in Melbourne I would have won". I have no doubt that was true. The typically RL supporting Brisbane audience were loud in their applause as the RL players entered the ring, and much quieter as the AFL players did the same.

Yep the anti AFL sentiment is so alive and well up here that on page 11 of todays paper there is an article with the top headline "Big Mal's punchline...now who's a melonhead?' followed underneath by "Jacko hits the canvas", with a pic of Jacko on the floor and the description "Over and Out: AFL madman Mark Jackson is seeing stars after tangling with former rugby league great Mal Meninga in their charity bout last night". And not even a mention in the article that 'local boy' Max Kennedy won his bout.

GRRRRRR Bloody Rugby Leage...........really gives me the willies.

Jacko is 42, Mal is 41

Thanks for that I knew that one was older by a year and the other was lighter by a kilo or 2.

So that leaves Jacko weighing in less than Mal. Gawd hard to believe when you looked at them. Especially with Jacko being taller.
