Boycott time

Regardless of what kind of message a boycott is meant to send them, the AFL would naturally just use that sort of thing as more ammunition against the club. We need to increase our numbers at games not decrease.

Unfortunately we are in no position to make any demands to the AFL. We rely on them for financial assistance/survival. With the new teams coming in we don't want to give the AFL any excuse to stop helping us out. The best thing to do is develop a good relationship with the AFL and work with them to turn around the club.
Boycotting games would be crazy. I'm not sure but I assume we had the lowest attendance in 08??

Right idea in principle but i'd like to think we could come up with a better way to voice our opinion. A bit like that sign at Buddy's 100th game : **** the AFL!

I have a feeling Port and Brisbane might have been lower than us, and I'm not sure if that was home or total attendance.

We do need to work closely with the AFL, and Gallon McFinklestein or whatever his name is said we are meeting with them twice a week, but surely the best way to help us would be to encourage our supporters by giving us some good fixtures. Boosting support does a lot more good than another handout from the AFL.

perhaps so but the only thing the AFL commision can contemplate is money not tradition.

Perhaps we can make an effort to not only turn up in numbers to our home games but really push our numbers for the away game against North Melbourne.

you still have 11 home games at the MCG. Hawthorn sold games to tassie because we couldnt get 11 at the G. The tigers dont get 11 at the G either.

You guys have said yourself, you have very few younger supporters, this benifits you. Teams lose attendance because of sunday games s the jr's play on sundays.

Most Snr leagues play on saturdays, and therefore your crowd should actually be higher.

the thing i hate is the fact that melbourne supporters whinge and moan about the fixture.
they complain about how the afl treat us.
what do you expect?
in order for us to get a fairer deal when the fixture is being made we either need to start improving on field or our members need to get off their ass and start attending games.
as much as i hate teams like collingwood, carlton etc. the one thing about their supporters is that at least they turn up week in and week out.
where are our loyal supporters these days?
instead of boycotting games maybe we should just all decide to turn up for once.
lets see how many fans we can get to our games. that will stick it right up the afl.
us not turning up will just show them how right they are.

Who do you think takes the kiddies to the junior games? A large number of our supporters have young kids, so Sundays are not good for them. Poor logic

Added to that, we have to look at the future, we can't just rely on immigrants taking up and loving the game, and supporting us in the process, as that it likely to net us very few members.
The kids are the next generation of supporters, and why would they want to support a team they don't get to see?

if you want respect, start attending games, dont boycott. not attending games is the reason we dont have any respect

The other thing with Sunday games is the corporates... people forgot that if we only half sell these because of Sundays we are losing a lot of cash.

Say we have 600 seats at $200 a pop.

Losing 300 because it is a Sunday means the club loses $60,000 minus maybe 7K for expenses.... Although it is only 300 more to the game it means heaps of cash to the club
