This is a 2017 Doctoral Thesis by Dr K. Perry, Western Sydney University, on the strategies employed, or required, by the AFL & GWS Club to build a new, large fan base in the foreign (ie no deep, local AF roots) territory of GWS.

Dr Perry evaluates its likely chances of success in building, over time, a large fan base in such an ethnically very diverse area.

Interestingly, he states that the GWS area (not including ACT) have 150 out of the top 500 companies in Australia. GWS is one of the biggest economic powerhouses in Australia, clearly demonstrating the Club's crucial importance to the AFL & GR AF.
