I've had mine for 9 months now...probably need them on for another year. They are ok I guess, just sucks that food gets stuck in them. Always have to brush after I eat etc etc. Have snapped quite a few brackets eating naughty foods ie muesli, toffees etc

I apparently need them for 18 months.

Will be nothing sadder than a 26 year old bloke in braces. Who the **** would take me seriously?
Get Invisalign braces if you have the money? I thinkkk they're partly covered under some dental plans.

I'm 24. Kind of feels odd in my teaching fellow position having braces..the students probably think I'm only about 18!

invisalign is only good for a small percentage of cases, namely where not a lot of tooth movement is required. that and it takes ages and costs a shitload.

Ah, well it was an option for me since I only had gaps in my teeth and not much else. The length wouldn't really matter since they're removable, but it'd be like a retainer - just cbf wearing it.

Well not me. :D

Having said that, one of my friends is 24, and she has braces at the moment...if it's gotta be done, it's gotta be done.

She is a short arse though, so it makes her look younger, I don't know what your 6'6" excuse would be though.

****, was hoping you wouldn't see this

The shame :o

No they arent. They are pretty much the future of braces. My teeth need extensive movement. I apparently have severe crowding both top and bottom even though I dont think my teeth are that bad. My dentist tells me they are however :D

It takes no longer than normal braces and costs exactly the same as normal braces.

When i was told about them, I thought they were obviously too good to be true and figured they would take way longer and cost way more. But they cost just about the same as the quotes I got for normal braces and Ill only have them on for around 15 months. Ive had them on for 5 months now and going strong.

Wouldnt recommened anything else!

Check that website Lenny. You can remove them, and nobody even realises you have them in. Im straightening my teeth and only a few people even realise. You simply cant see them. You remove them to eat and drink. Then brush and put them back in. I cant believe I didnt think of it first. Braces without the embarrassment. The money the Invisalign inventor is making must be HUGE.

This.

I had braces and always thought they were uneccesary as my teeth were OK. I felt the orthodontist was just lining his pockets.

Plus braces really stuff you up if you play a brass instrument (trumpet for me)

I am surprised of the level of love for braces in this thread I thought there would be much more dislike.
My dislike of braces and my orthodontist was capped off when I changed dentists years later in a different city and was told my orthodontist hadn't done a proper job removing my braces and left glue behind.

And my teeth have moved back.

Personally I don't see the need for a perfect smile. My teeth were OK - they still are. I have 2 dead teeth with 1 discolored yet I've never had any desire to get it whitened.

invisalign is marketed to general dentists with little orthodontic training. some orthodontists would do it (mainly due to patient demand), but most don't and for good reason.

invisalign really only tilts the crowns of the teeth, not move the entire tooth. and because you cant get good torque on the roots of the teeth and pull them into line (like you can with regular braces), the relapse rate of invisalign cases is very high. so in other words, it's quite common to spend your $7000 or whatever now, then get lazy with your retainers and in a few yrs time watch everything return to exactly where it started.

If you think so... but ive had my invisalign braces in for 5 months now and my teeth have moved quite a lot. I wont be lazy with my retainers either because I dont want my teeth to go back to how they were. Besides, it's a mouth guard that I can hardly feel and the retainers only need to be worn whilst sleeping. Hardly difficult. So far, so good with Invisalign.

yeh mate i think so. im a dentist and have a couple of orthodontist mates. i know what invisalign is and have a good grasp of the concept. good luck with em though, but theyre not the greatest thing since sliced bread like their website would have you think.

Im sure it's not all roses but the technology is pretty interesting. It's definitely further on than it was 5 or 6 years ago when it started to come onto the scene. Im happy with the results so far, but im very dedicated and diligent with the process, some people are slack with them and the results dont come.

has anyone else never been to a dentist??

is it wrong that my parents didn't send me during school even if there was nothing visibly wrong with them??

it's got to the point now where i could just see the $$$ signs in the guys eyes when he finds out.

Before I went to get my teeth straightened I hadn't been for 7 years. My whole life I basically only brushed before bed with improper technique.

The dentist told me that I needed 1 filling and that everything else was perfectly fine.

I have to say though, they are a money hungry lot. My dentist took an x-ray of my teeth to show me the plaque between them, so that I would be encouraged to floss. She charged something like $80 for those x-rays when I would've been happy with a "You should floss, brushing isn't enough".

Anyway, my understanding is if you don't have any pain in your teeth, don't have bad breath due to your gums and teeth, and your gums don't bleed when you brush, you should be okay. Just make sure you brush and floss after every meal or as often as possible. :thumbsu:
