I don’t think reading of the play is exceptional. if they were he would be finding the ball more at hawkins, Rohan’s and Cameron’s feet. He never does. He doesn’t find much of the ball.

i think he has great work ethic. He doesnt seem to get overawed by pressure and he has a good handball. He ain’t fast. But he aint slow.

he lacks the mobility to quickly turn onto his dominant foot and snap a shot on goal. this is a huge limitation for a foward pocket. He always looks for the handball as a result and therefore Relies on others to finish off. it puts a low ceiling on his ability to excel as a small foward despite his strengths.

Fair call we can agree on some points and agree to disagree on others. :thumbsu:
Let's hope his development continues along positively and he improves with experience and more preseasons - I don't see him as a superstar but I do see him as a very important role player in a formidable forwardline.

I can't find another thread on this guy, so I'm starting one.
Just saying I love what he brings to the table.
Fantastic vision. Lost count of the times his quick 'gives' have opened up the play and resulted in goals.
Should nick name him 'the can opener'
Pressure and closing speed are also top shelf.

Gun! I remember vision from his draft with Wells on the phone to CS, and he said something like "There were a few 190cm MIDs available, but we thought this guy might make a bigger difference." He's been invaluable this year.

I think that is harsh - but i think it is fair and accurate

As you point out - if he only had that mobilility quickness to take off and turn - then he would be a really dangerous player

But Close - given his physical attributes is playing as good as he can

Its the same with Sam Simpson - hes got good skill - got a good baulk/sidestep - however he was only really quick ( which he isnt ) he would be a gun

I think you're right on the pack marks. He has 4 guys in that forward line over 194cm. Needs to stay front and centre or out the back

Exactly. I can remember people complaining not so long ago that we lacked that type of small fwd to take it at ground level and put the ball to advantage.

But what’s that measured over? what distance? Did they have a big run up behind them that’s rare on the football park? I wouldn’t say Stewart is overly fast on a football field either for that matter.

clarke, Rohan would be the quickest at the club.
It would have to be peak speed. Not measured over any distance. Just the highest speed they hit.

He's handballing because he can see people in better position. It's a feature of his game not a flaw

Who knows? The parameters of some of these stats are beyond the ken of mere mortals, however one wouldn’t expect to find your way into the top tier unless you had a bit of tow.
BTW‘ if you don’t think Stewart is fast then your credibility in this argument is debatable..
I agree though, in ways, that speed is a really poor stat. What really counts is acceleration.
Again, If you watch Stewart in action his acceleration is phenomenal. Dangerfield in his pomp would be another. Where Close sits I don’t know but some of his chasing at least, has been elite.

If you can’t see that Stewart is very quick, then I don’t know what you are watching.

stats ain’t lyin, it seems that you ain’t a good judge of speed.

We should do a Brad close roves a pack and snaps a goal watch. How many games will it take before he does one?
Do you ever have anything positive to say in a thread? You have to be one of the most depressing posters I’ve ever seen on this board.
I don’t know about anyone else but gee I’m sick to death of the shit you post.
You either start arguments between other posters or post completely ridiculous things that have no relevance at all.
It’s cringeworthy stuff mate.

Agree he is better then Burbury. He is more a Cory Gregson right now.

I second the post above me. This is some seriously annoying shit being posted in this thread. You’ve posted 3 straight comments on the previous page, seemingly talking to yourself, all negative towards Close. Bizarre behaviour.

Not all negative. I post both positives and negatives. The only measured post on Brad close in this thread.

but apparently on Brad close only positives can be posted. It has to all be glowing praise Creating a self reinforcing cycle.

this thread needs some balance.

it’s a flaw if he only see players in better position Cos he can’t get the ball on his own boot. Had a perfect opportunity 10 metres out from goal against the doggies and completely fluffed it. There’s a bit of Ben Simmons about Brad close in regards to taking a shot.

Do we have the most long sleeve wearing players? Menegola, Guthrie and Close. I remember jimmy bartel was partial to them.

Would love to see the whole team wear them next time we play the hawks at KP on a cold day just to see the look on clarko's face when his team of frozen dickheads get pantsed by 100+. 😀

close is getting the most out of his abilities. he is contributing and has fantastic work ethic and is pretty good under pressure. i think he is now very close to best 22 if not already there.

But his ceiling is not much higher due to limits in his talent. I don’t know why we can’t say this.
