close is getting the most out of his abilities. he is contributing and has fantastic work ethic and is pretty good under pressure. i think he is now very close to best 22 if not already there.

But his ceiling is not much higher due to limits in his talent. I don’t know why we can’t say this.

It will be interesting to see who makes way for miers Who Scott labelled as best 22. It should be dalhaus but I’m not sure the MC sees it that way. Also don’t know how they rank Higgins either given he was apparently only rested.

Sorry, was my lame attempt at a joke. But yeah, good point. I'd like to see how Miers is going a bit more in vfl before he comes back in, but if it is in the next week or two as Scott has indicated, I assume it would be for Higgins.
Thought Dahlhaus had a super game btw on Friday. Close hasn't put a foot wrong and can't see him losing his spot other than through injury or significant drop in form. But I could be wrong.

Telstra Tracker says so. Have a look at the AFL website article 26/9/2020. When I looked at it last year, from memory, Tuohy would have been the fastest at a number of other clubs. Better check your stopwatch.

He's only played 17 games or so and has improved possessions and goals per game significantly this season compared to his first season.
Let's get 50 games into him and then assess his ceiling

Who knows? The parameters of some of these stats are beyond the ken of mere mortals, however one wouldn’t expect to find your way into the top tier unless you had a bit of tow.
BTW‘ if you don’t think Stewart is fast then your credibility in this argument is debatable..
I agree though, in ways, that speed is a really poor stat. What really counts is acceleration.
Again, If you watch Stewart in action his acceleration is phenomenal. Dangerfield in his pomp would be another. Where Close sits I don’t know but some of his chasing at least, has been elite.

Well, according to Telstra Tracker, Close reached the 5th fastest speed of all our players last year in an AFL match. I would say he is fast.

it’s a flaw if he only see players in better position Cos he can’t get the ball on his own boot. Had a perfect opportunity 10 metres out from goal against the doggies and completely fluffed it. There’s a bit of Ben Simmons about Brad close in regards to taking a shot.

Close has a bit of the Steve Kerr, he’s a classy role player who knows his place, it’s exactly what we need. We seem to have more of a buy in of that in general this year.

Who was that Freo player i think in the early days - won a couple of Norm Smith sprints - absolutely bolted them in - was a top notch 100 metre sprinter - however on the football field he didnt look real quick at all - because he wasnt quick off the mark

That his choosing a player in a better position is a failure on his part to beat his opponent. Taking an option that is in a free attacking position is better than taking a shot yourself when you are not.

I don't think his number of goals kicked (which at 0.9 per game isn't that bad for an 18 gamer) signals any deficiency. He has taken shots himself when in best position.
