"IT'S NOT f@$#ing tennis ... If you don't want to defend, if that's not your priority, grab your bag, put your shoes in it and walk out."

That was the brutal ultimatum delivered by Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks to his midfield - or maybe just Brad Crouch - early last season.”
Looks like that message might have got blurred on sunday against port..not much of a defensive action was evident

reading is hard isn’t it?

Don't know just calling it as I saw it last November when your club made a fool of your supporters.

Doesn't matter, you cleared out a player who wont be in your next tilt, got a whole bunch of top end young players and can start the climb up the ladder. Just thought it was amusing that Nicks goes all heavy handed and then you lot carry on when he leaves, no biggie, bye.

So why did the Crows supporters get so upset when he left? Didn't your coach tell him to.

Player gets told to go, Player goes, club and supporters upset.

There are a lot of us not upset in the least by this bloke leaving. Wait till mid-season and then tell us how the trade went. He may not be in your best 22 by then.

Don't know if that is true, however he certainly isn't a Fyfe or Cotchin. He is an upgrade on Hannerbery simpley cause he can't get on the park. I reckon it was an Ok deal all round. Adelaide wanted more in compo but everyone moves on. Players come and go, only the supporter remains.

We had many games like that last year as well. Disappointing to see it return this year.

What it does show is what has happened to Jones. All last year we could see how reluctant he was to go for the ball and how focussed he was on his opponent. The poor bloke is trying to do the right thing by the team and what the coaches are telling him, but ultimately to his own detriment.
If he can get the balance right, there is still a quality player there.

A quick question joffa..

When did this footage of crouch and Nicksy emerge?

Answer that question accurately and you are well on your way to answering your original one..

We had no players with the ability to burst from the midfield and make forward plays besides Brad Crouch for most of last year, until Laird came in to the midfield. He looks bad when we're not winning the ball at the contest, he looks good when we do. Everyone needs to defend when they need to defend, but it's a fine line between being too defensive/reactive, getting that balance right and then being a front runner. Hopefully we get that mix right, because it was deplorable for most of last season. I don't think Brad Crouch was the problem and there will be a hole left without him. It is still disappointing how little we got for him and in the end, the midfield coach got the boot too. All too familiar as a Crows supporter - suck it up and move forward. It feels like our best chance to get our next elite/champion mid will be finishing low on the table again this year and hoping the stars align. We will need one.

St Kilda were atrocious yesterday. Jack Steele was the only one who didn't have a mare. Brad spent much of his time at HFF which makes no sense but I'm going to assume they moved him there because he wasn't getting it done in the middle.

Having watched that footage, it's pretty hard not to be deeply unimpressed by our captain tbh.

The most 'alarming' fact re: Crouch's decision to join Saints is their age profile. If they aren't winning a flag this year or next, they could be entering rebuild territory.

They topped up pretty hard over the last few years.

This year
Brad Crouch - 27
James Frawley 32
Shaun McKernan - 30
Paul Hunter - 27
Mason Wood - 27

Last year
Paddy Ryder - 32
Brad Hill - 27
Zak Jones - 25

2019 -
Dan Hannebery - 30

Even a lot of their draft picks they've in the 3rd round onwards in the draft over that period have been on 22-24 year olds who can contribute now, but may not have massive amounts of improvement in them.

It's gotten them to the point where they made the finals last year and were hoping for top 4 this year, but you could argue the level of overall improvement in their side, outside of a few players like Max King, Hunter Clark and Nick Coffield, is limited.

Half of those guys are injured or on leave, and the other half aren't much good.

They aren't winning a flag.

I wonder where Jack Bytel is with his back issues, he was one helluva midfield prospect when they drafted him albeit he was set for back surgery?

Injured again?

They just dropped him to bring Crouch back in. He had 10 tackles in Round 1, which is something they probably could have done with yesterday.

Re-signed him at the end of last year, so they obviously have some hopes for him though.

Where are their kids? I’m stunned at who they have picked up - would any be considered A graders? Perhaps Hill and Hannebery was but now injury prone.

Most of these players are just mercenaries.

Played the first 2 games.

King and Steele are guns, Clark and Coffield are very good too. Marshall once fit again.

Gresham's injury is big
