surjan had surgery on his knee in the off-season. got really heavily into bike riding over the off-season but when he came back was over the weight the med staff asked him to reach ( they asked him to lose several kilos as it would be better long term for his knee).

got him really behind on his skills/ fitness. pretty much has come out several times in the media and said that he takes full responsibility for it and will work even harder now to take his spot in the team. while everyone else is on holiday he is at the gym in his hometown.

make no mistake surjan can play football, is a premium small shutdown defender. why would the club trade a contracted player who is definately first 22, shown he is already doing the work to make amends, and worth is down because of the last year??

ild expect surj would be one of the first names brought up by west coast if port make enquiries about ebert and they will be told no.

Well now it's official that he's going home this thread means something. Aside from his average at times disposal I think he's got a long career ahead of him. Great overhead, can play mid or forward flank and it's a shame we are losing him. I know people will talk up his poor disposal etc but he will be a very handy pickup for which club can work out a trade. I personally believe he's worth about pick twenty or some player/pick combo but time will tell what is offered.

I'm sure a fair trade will be agreed apon

Actually I feel pretty disapointed that he is going. Thought his friendships with S Selwood and Shuey would keep him at the club if nothing else.

Loved the committment he displayed to the contest, thanks Brad for your time.

However now that you are no longer blue and gold, and didn't want to work harder to get into the midfield at our club, but rather took the easier path and went for a trade instead, piss off and dont let the door hit you on the way out.:)

I'm very suprised he's going, he was talking up the club and having to fight to get in etc recently. Maybe he's not into having to push his way into the side. Port should have a crack you'd think but who will he nominate as his preferred team will be the stinger..

Port pick 6 won't be traded, and 28 is the low.

Any player we would want would be untouchable.

Not bad.

Would be nice to do a little better, but I feel that would be the best we could do.

WCE offer would be $ 100 000 pa less then what Port will be offering , cant blame him for going , West Coast have put off contract talks mid year and Ebert was reportedly not content with WCE offer early in the year !

Motlop is looking for a new home and had family in Perth. hahaha

If anyone can be stuffed going through Ebert threads you'll see I'm not his biggest fan...to say the least. I will be happy with a player who has the fundamental skills covered and who doesn't have frequent and costly clangers.

Ports second round pick about right....?????

People that are against Motlop as a throwin is it because of his age?

He is still a damn good player and I would take Motlop over Ebert anyday if I was contending for a premiership (rather than rebuilding).

O.k Port people.
Players I'd like to see in the Blue and Gold

Daniel Pearce
Ben Jacobs
Jasper Pittard

And Robbie Gray (Dreaming)

Now that Ebert has declared his intentions, what trades/deal would you expect for the players mentioned above??

Pearce, Gray will not be coming our way. Also, they're going to want to hang on to all their quality youngsters......So it's a tough one imo, to have both clubs happy.

there's too many walkouters these days. poor effort ebert.

I saw this coming though....He and Masten have been in and out like a mating rabbits penis, often one replacing the other. Masten stayed in and Ebert was eventually left out not to return.

He's paid to play footy, and if he was told in his review with Woosh that there are a lot of players ahead of him for a spot in the midfield, whilst another club is telling him he has guaranteed games + more cash + in his home state etc....I don't blame him and I hope he plays many games with his new club.

Personally, I would be shocked if Worsfold wanted him on his team....Even if he was free and playing for zero dollars outside the list, Worsfold (IMO) wouldn't want him.

Just my opinion.

I'm not too disappointed to lose Ebert because we've already got a couple of similar types, but I do rate him quite highly as a player. In the right setup with a bit more responsibility he'll really thrive.

He's a genuine B-grade player, but at the same time he's played two match-winning games this year (the Geelong one really sticks in my mind) and has a couple more to his name over his earlier seasons.

He's 21 years old and has played 76 games. Is probably the 23rd player at WC and if it weren't for the most miraculous injury run I've ever seen, he would've been firmly entrenched in the 18 all season. Whoever picks him up will probably get about 200 games out of him and find him a role where he'll sit comfortably in the team's top 10-15 players for a long time.

We won't get a top 10 pick for Ebert, but by the end of his career it'll be obvious that's what he was worth. People get caught up with the potential of drafting a superstar, but right here is a genuine AFL player who'll make an immediate impact but still continue to improve over the next 2-3 years.
